Union Square Cafe New York Reviews from The Last Year
Five stars across the board.
We were greeted by not one, but two servers who introduced themselves and told us they would be guiding us on our journey that evening - and a journey it was! While the food was incredible, it was the service that really stuck out to me. Our servers were attentive, helpful, interactive and had a very large impact on our experience. I had expected top-notch service from other reviews but I was truly impressed. Special shout out to Sarah for her deep knowledge of the menu and spot-on recommendations. We loved every single thing we ate but here are the standouts: - Tuna Crudo - Broccoli - **Agnolotti (little pillows of heaven) - Duck Ragu
Went here for a group work lunch.
Overall great ambience and good service overall. We sat upstairs. Got the burger which was well executed and cooked a good medium rare. Fries were good too. Overall the menu didn't have much range for a work lunch and seemed pretty repetitive with limited options. Service was pretty slow for a work lunch as well and these factors dock the review a point.
Excellent Food and Service
I had lovely dinner sitting on sidewalk in beautiful weather. Service was attentive and gracious. The food was very good. The bread, Bibb lettuce salad and lamb chops were all delicious.
Always delicious
We usually dine at Union Square every time we visit NYC. The food is always well prepared. The waitstaff are knowledgeable and efficient. The restaurant is attractive and the noise level is moderate. The menu choices vary depending on time of year, but are always superb.

Came here to celebrate my bf's birthday month and had a reservation in advance. We were a couple minutes late but we were still seated right away. Everyone here was super friendly and made the dining experience more enjoyable. Inside is so beautiful! It's classic, timeless and feels cozy/homey and full of personality with its art and decor. Since it was our first time we took our server's suggestion and got their limited time summer pre fixe menu which was beef short rib, pasta salad, chili watermelon and cornbread. We were served fresh bread and chose sparkling water. The food came out so much faster than we imagined. Everything was delicious and some of the flavors were very unique like the chili watermelon. The beef short rib was a little fatty and I ended up cutting off those parts but it was good overall. The pasta salad was a bit heavy but since my partner and I shared it was more manageable. At the end our server brought us a surprise birthday treat of creme brûlée and it was one of the best I've had! So thoughtful and we really enjoyed our time here.

Great service and delicious food ! I came for the first
Great service and delicious food ! I came for the first time for dinner with my family that was from out of town, we arrived a few minutes late for our reservation but the restaurant was accommodating and honored our reservation as well our server Christian was exceptional, he was able to notice that my family was not from NY and answered all their questions and really took his time explaining the many and making recommendations, while my family did take long to order because they would not stop talking (wanting to catch up) Christian displayed patience and gracefulness by not rushing us and making us feel welcome in understanding the situation. Good was fantastic, the Caputo mozzarella was creamy and soft and the Lamb fry bread is a must, I had the country pork chop and it was the juiciest pork chop I have ever had, so good I forgot to take a picture of it. The desserts delivered specially our server recommendation of the Drunken Rhubarb cake which was immaculate, thank you Union square cafe for existing, never leave us.
I don't often leave 5 star reviews.
When it comes to Union Square Cafe, the consistency in service and quality deserve a five-star review. The elegant bar leads to a dining room where a business dinner or a family get together coexist nicely. Our favorite seating is at the bar. Our most recent visit included seafood. The standard menu item diver scallops with ramp and a salmon tartar special. Both were presented beautifully and had extremely fantastic flavors. The ramp andds and the sauce add pop to the usually bland scallops. The cocktails are always well balanced and also flavorful. The Negroni Rosa is out of this world. For dessert, the untraditional take on a tiramisu is great. Creamy and with all the right flavors.
waited a bit even with reservation.
food was good, favorite was the broccoli. service was kind and attentive.

Had a truly exceptional experience sitting outside as the sun set. Relaxed, efficient service. Amazing food. Tiramisu not special, but drunk rhubarb cake is to die for. Mains of lobster tail and duck breast extremely refined. Overall a memorable experience worth every penny.

We had not been to Union Square Cafe since the mid-90s, back when it was in its original 16th Street location and was renowned for its seared tuna pierced with a spear of sugarcane. We were happy to see that Union Square Cafe is thriving in its new 19th Street location. Absolutely loved the food (notably the butter-poached lobster), the ambiance (which was elegant but not too fancy or stuffy), and most of all the personable and efficient service. We particularly appreciated the special attention our daughter received for celebrating her high school graduation. A phenomenal place to celebrate a special occasion. We will not wait another 30-odd years to return!
Where are the Tuna Burgers
What happened to the famous Tuna Burger? I loved it. It is gone and I have asked the manager and written the owner and there is no explanation. Lazy and unforgivable.
Great restauant
We had an awesome experience at Union Square. We were celebrating my sister's 70th birthday and her first time to NYC. I'm so glad we had one of our meals here. David (our server) was so very nice and Dominick (his assistant) was awesome. They both made sure we had a special evening. The food was excellent. We all hope Dominick gets promoted to server soon!
I expected a great experience, and got it!
Many years ago, I read and thoroughly enjoyed Danny Meyer's book, "Setting the Table": solid management principles combined with stories about great food - what's not to love?! Beyond the great read, the book left in me a wish that I could one day visit Danny's restaurants in New York. This week, I brought my son and daughter on our first-ever trip to NYC and the first meal stop we made was at Union Square Cafe. From what I learned about Danny's restaurants through reading his book, I expected to encounter staff that went above and beyond, a well-managed restaurant, and exceptionally good food. I was not disappointed! Every staff member we encountered helped create a wonderful experience. Our server, John, was friendly and made us feel like he had all the time in the world to answer our questions. We never felt rushed. By his own words, we knew he loved his job, but his actions told us that long before his words did. Even though we didn't order dessert, John couldn't have us leave the restaurant without a small fruit platter with a greeting written in chocolate. Mike, the restaurant manager, learned that we had been excited to visit Union Square and took the time to personally welcome us. He shared with us his favourite dishes and checked in with us frequently. Tyrone, the sommelier, added a special touch to our evening. He was professional and yet friendly. Knowing that we were in New York for the first time and celebrating my son's birthday soon, Michael (another senior staff member), took a polaroid photo of us and wrote out a special greeting for us to remember the evening. The food was delicious and we thoroughly enjoyed it, but everything tasted better because of the kind attentiveness of the staff. Thank you to the USC staff for meeting and exceeding expectations!
What happened to this restaurant?
Missing, my once beloved and favorite upscale NYC restaurant by a coveted colleague in the food industry - actually a veteran that set the standard for quality food and outstanding hospitality - this is what is missing! I got over the new location for USC years ago, but what I won’t get over is this; sloppy dressed (jeans! and a weird flowery shirt with a messy cardigan over that and her hair in a clip as in I ‘just rolled out of bed’ look) hostess asking for our name and phone number before we are seated, aggressive wait staff hounding us to order ‘drinks’ (we are not the bar crowd of diners), a menu that is so pedestrian (especially at these prices) I want to scream. First, it’s never a good idea to tell the guest that literally just sat down - or is trying to sit down at the table - that “…you’ve got little time to order because the kitchen closes in 10 minutes…but I don’t want to rush you…”. Now if this is the case that the kitchen closes in 10 minutes then why didn’t the sloppy hostess mention this when we arrived? Second, where’s the lunch menu that is on the website??? How about something more exciting than a turkey sandwich, or a plate of pasta? We ordered the potato & cod croquettes and the crispy duck wings so we could then go elsewhere for a real lunch. While the croquettes were passable the crispy duck wings were disgusting. Chewy outer coating, not crispy, doused in sweat & sour goopy sauce with diagonal slices of scallion (where is this outlined on the menu?). Even if there was a description for the guest the actual taste is abysmal - think old meat as in dry, cooked twice or hanging out in the ‘fridge for days before cooking and flavorless, except for that sauce (which tasted as if it came from a bottle). Really nothing but ICK. Today it seems that the press and fame a restaurant receives during the marketing and advertising efforts often turns the place into a tourist destination in the worst of ways - the chef and staff cannot keep up or don’t want to keep up. Our lunch experience felt as if everyone gave up. Back to the hostess…this person should stand out from the rest of the crowd and not look like the worst-dressed person in the restaurant. Remember they represent your brand! The waitstaff needs to stop drink-shaming guests…we may just be the ones that will tip you for showing up and not based on our dollar-intake. As for the menu, bring back the creativity, innovation, flavor profiles and class and stop trying to take the easy road.
Food was terrible.
Had the pork chop, Bibb salad, and ribs. Pork chop was torched and nearly inedible, the ribs were a terrible cut and mostly fat, and the Bibb was drenched in a heavy dressing and the lettuce was clearly old and decaying. Really disappointing
Our friends highly recommended this place and we finally
Our friends highly recommended this place and we finally went for brunch there today , March 17th. It was absolutely terrible . Our server was not very friendly , didn't smile once . Said his name was James . Very unobservant . We placed our order , and it took about 25 minutes for the food to come out . I noticed a table of 6 in front of us placed their order after we did . We were only 3 people . The table of 6 get their food before us , and were done eating by the time we got our food. I got eggs ( a two egg scramble) which was $22 , and minus the cheese it normally comes with. I had to send them back as they were undercooked. This came with no apology. Btw , the eggs were just that . Nothing accompanying them except a sprinkling of chives . No potatoes, no nothing. My wife had a burger which she said was good , but the fries were terrible. Our daughter had chicken , and again , nothing accompanying it except some sauce over it . Final words on this place is it's an absolute rip off ! Our total bill with a 20% tip which our server did not deserve was $150. They even charged us $5 for each coffee we had , and we had 4 very small cups. Don't go to this place unless you just want to throw your money away . The only thing good was the space itself.
Food and service here are always excellent.
It's a bit pricey, but you get what you pay for. Our bartender Sophia was so kind and knowledgeable. She clearly took a lot of pride in the restaurant and her service. Great ambiance. Very "New York" with lots of style. This place is always a favorite for lunch.
Came in on a lark - was sat at the upstairs bar.
Albert was tending, and he was a fantastic host, assisted by Olivia. Together they provided the perfect evening dinner experience: recommendations on the right courses (the broccoli was especially excellent, but I also recommend the lamb and the chocolate cherry dessert), an off-the-menu cocktail that was more herbal as I desired, and a bit of education about the variety of aromas and flavors that Gin can provide. Behind the bar was busy but I never felt unattended to. They were both excellent hosts (special props to Albert), and I hope to run into them again!
Food wasn't all that pretty much a diner/cafe might visit
Food wasn't all that pretty much a diner/cafe might visit but not to sure hope things change
A classic American restaurant.
A solid option for date night for the atmosphere/setting but food-wise is nothing special. Food: https://www.unionsquarecafe.com/menus/#dinner-menu We did 2 pastas (the entree portion which is +$10), the honey glazed carrots, and roasted broccoli. For dessert, we ordered the baklava sundae + tiramisu. The food is solid albeit nothing special. Food mildly overpriced. Ambience: upscale, dressing business casual is fine, especially festive during the holidays because they have a nice Christmas tree and the staircase is nicely decorated Reservation: Definitely make one Service: It's fine, average
The level of service is fantastic at Union Square Cafe.
The room is incredible and beautiful for that NYC experience. But... if you come, do yourself a favor and get the Pork Chop! I am from the pork capital, and this is the BEST CHOP I have ever had. Everything about the dish was perfection. Great Place
Loved it! The food & drinks are great! When I get back
Loved it! The food & drinks are great! When I get back into NYC , I'm definitely going back again! The vibe is great! If you're a sports fan, it's a great place to watch games and hang with friends. The service is amazing!
Amazingly good food, across the whole meal.
The service was personal, generous & attentive. It was our 35th wedding anniversary & we were treated royally, with menus for the table with our names on them & complementary champagne and amuse buche on our arrival. Our guests were amazed "It's nice to be at the VIP table..." one of them said!
Went here late last night and experienced some of the best
Went here late last night and experienced some of the best service I've experienced in a very long time. We were at the bar waiting for our table. I was attempting to find an opening at the bar so I could order drinks, and one of the bar employees noticed, walked out from behind the bar, and asked me what he could get for me. I ordered drinks and also mentioned we were starving. He brought us bread and nuts along with our drinks. Later, during dinner, I was trying to get our (excellent) server's attention. A different server noticed she was occupied and came right over to help out. Food was great. Vibe was great. Service was extraordinary.
Fun evening out
We all had the prix fixe dinner. The scallop was perfectly prepared. It had a nice crust on one side and was delicately cooked. The lamb appetizer was very tasty and different than expected. The lobster poached in butter was excellent. The most enthusiasm was for the duck l’orange. Each dessert was prepared with attention to detail. Tiramisu, the Apple cake and citrus tart were all extraordinary.
Fantastic Lunch in the City
The special lunch menu was superb! The Holiday decorations and vibe was truly enjoyable. Service was above and beyond what was expected. One of the guests has an allergy situation and the staff went out of their way to satisfy he requirement. Highly recommend this eatery to all visiting or being in the area.
Bad Start, Strong Finish.
Had a 5:30 (2) reservation. Greeted by Maitre'd, main dining room was basically empty, he turned to hostess and said "lets try this". Hostess (who was very pleasant) then proceeded to walk us all the way upstairs along the wall by the back bar. Was about to say something, but my wife said it was fine. Ordered Martinis which were served in a coupe glass, the only reason I think they would not serve a Martini in a Martini glass was they are being chintzy on the portion....which they were. Picked up wine list and Sommelier was immediately on me. I ordered his suggestion ($95). We were still drinking our Martinis and here comes the wine, tasted and immediately poured....odd that it was poured so quickly, we just started our cocktails and it was white wine (cold). My wife commented on it. Bread was delivered, two small slices (kind of laughable), was very good. Ordered, Caesar Salad, Chicken and Salmon off regular menu. Ceasar had pieces of radiccio in it that were not cut off the crown, were big and inedible we pulled them out. Salmon and Chicken Scarpariello were absolutely fantastic, and the wine was great too. So more than a few hiccups but service and entrees were good, dinner for two $300 (with the wine).
Disappointing
What a gloriously decorated restaurant and terribly comfortable. I told the lovely waitress I was allergic to chilli and coriander and she returned from the kitchen to inform me that almost everything was pre-made and included chilli. The menu had nothing to suggest the food was spicy, which I found to be misleading, and there were only two dishes which were safe for me to eat, both of which were potatoes. Sadly we left and went elsewhere.

Great Service - amazing dinner!!
Read about the site in NYT and bought a reservation at Mother Wolf in LA 2 days later. Worked great and the food was amazing!!!
Worked perfectly!
Got the reservation (that I couldn't get anywhere else) and was able to entertain a group of friends at the infamous Bern's Steakhouse.
Got into Nobu Malibu
Wonderful! My parents are visiting and we have wanted to go to Nobu Malibu for years. I tried getting a reservation myself but it was next to impossible. So glad I was able to buy a reservation on appointment trader for a decent price!
Very easy
Was very hesitant going into this experience but am glad to say that it worked out very well ! will definitely use appointment trader in the future
Fabulous Lunch
I was veeeeeerry skeptical that this would work, particularly at a restaurant as hard to get into as Nobu Malibu, and it was perfect! We had lunch outside on the patio and it was fabulous!
Great reviewer team
Just wanted to take a second to shout out the reviewer team. Even though they probably review hundreds of listings and bids a day, they still take the time to leave great comments and respond relatively quickly. Thanks!
Incredible
I got a reservation to Don Angie, which I've been trying to book for weeks! I am very happy with this service.
Best platform out there!
Super simple, easy, and fast to secure reservations for hard-to-get restaurants and locations!
This app is life changing
This app has opened my world up to so many wonderful new experiences I would never have the chance to have without access to this awesome app! 10/10!
Worked perfectly
Was a little nervous at first but was pleased to see that the booking went through flawlessly.
Highly recommended.
Success on Short Notice
Was able to snag an indoor table at Don Angie through an absolutely seamless worry-free process.
Worked perfectly, thank you!
This is a crazy holiday season in NYC and I was very pleasantly surprised to see that AppointmentTrader works! Will be using again!
Worked flawlessly!
Worked so well! I was a bit nervous, but everything went very smoothly. purchased the reservation, and got into the restaurant seamlessly.
Love this app!
So glad I came across this app :)
Quick table in Miami
I didn’t have my hopes high as it was a party of 4. In 24 hours I had a carbone reservation available! I was very happy as my family really wanted to come here
Prime time, great meal
So easy and had a prime time which I can never seem to get on normal res apps. So worth it
Got impossible NYC res
instead of waiting weeks I got my 4 charles reservation instantly
Worked perfectly to get into Carbone. So delighted
perfect
Worked well, got me into a restaurant with no availability
I was skeptical, and I still don't really know how they managed to find this hard-to-find reservation, but it was a win-win from my point of view, and I'll use this service again.
Last minute reservation for Delilah Las Vegas
Got a last minute reservation, dinner for 2 at Delilah Las Vegas: super impressed! The process was simple, transaction seamless. We had an amazing time! Couldn’t be happier! 😍
It works!
Ok at this point I've attended a reservation purchased on AT by a friend and sold a reservation personally. Both worked pretty smoothly, nothing sketchy about it. A few areas for improvement including a way to more directly communicate between buyers and sellers, but the app always seems to be in development. AT customer support is really(!) responsive and helpful too if you have questions!
Money transfer
As a seller, I like the fact i have the ability now to transfer money out of my AT account and into a bank account. Makes getting the money much easier then the process before.
Love this app
Got to go to places otherwise unreachable
Easy Access
Very easy to get into one of the hardest restaurants to reserve in New York.
Whose name will my reservation be under when I arrive at the venue?
It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!
Payouts Blocked Because of Sell Through Rate
Does anyone know how AT plans to handle cases where a seller is quitting the platform but has a sell through rate <25%? The error message I got said to fill more bids or find other ways to increase the rate.
Is AT really going to block sellers from withdrawing their money? Especially revenue made before the sell through rate was introduced??
Tune into NBC News - Top Story Tonight 7:40p ET
Let’s go. Get more people placing bids!
I will give you 50% of ALL of my PROFITS if you teach me how to make profits?
LOL. Thank you The New Yorker.
Appointment
Transferring reservations is not supported in AT. Why not just use the name in the AT screenshot?
Buyers interested in Bern's Steakhouse: PLEASE READ
Same goes for 4 Charles and I Sodi
Prepaid Reservation Fee
Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
Congrats on 3 mil
🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🧨🧨🧨 now on to 30 mill!
Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it?
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid?
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted.
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from?
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered?
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
