Amazing! I mean Ah May Zing! Staff were very personable and provided great recommendations! We basically ordered everything! Bit pricey but worth it! Must go!

We decided to check for cancellations as we walked by and were surprised to hear that a table is actually available until a certain time. 4 Charles Prime Rib is located in the basement - It's very small and cramped. The overall ambiance inside is dark and moody. My friends all got the 10 oz. wagyu burger topped with a farm egg. It came with quite the show where the server stabs the yolk and lets it drizzle on the patty. I didn't get a chance to try it but heard good things! As for me, I got the English cut which came with 3 thin sliced prime rib with au jus and creamy horseradish. To be honest, I'm not that impressed. The meat was bland in some parts and overly salty in some parts. I didn't think the au jus nor horseradish helped enhance flavors. Sides were just okay - Out of the elote corn, green beans, and truffle Mac and cheese, I liked the Mac and cheese best. It was cooked al dente and tasted truffly. It was cool to try 4 Charles Prime Rib but it was all hype for me.
Be the first to ReplyMy husband was really hoping to try 4 Charles Prime Rib
My husband was really hoping to try 4 Charles Prime Rib during our recent NYC visit. Before our trip, we both had attempted to grab reservations off and on for weeks but were unsuccessful. We decided to try doing a walk-in at brunch and were shocked that there was only 1 other party ahead of us when we arrived 15 mins before they opened. We were seated outside and got a great view of the neighborhood during our meal. If you aren't coming for the prime rib or other dinner specific items, I would suggest checking them out for brunch. They still serve their famous burger and many other delicious items on their brunch menu. We had pleasant interactions with all members of the staff at 4 Charles and our waiter gave great recommendations for other places we should check out on our trip. Truffle Mac and Cheese (9/10) The truffle flavor is not overwhelming and I liked the cheese combo they use for their recipe. Double Wagyu Burger (9/10) How many places can you go where someone puts on white gloves and cuts the burger for you? Beyond the presentation, the burger itself is really flavorful. Prime Rib French Dip (9/10) One of the best french dips I've had. I wished there was a tad bit more meat on it, but I was impressed by the meat quality. The sandwich could be shareable if you are ordering other apps/sides

Wow. This meal lived up to the hype. Not only were we blown away by the burger, which is exactly what you'd expect from the fantastic reviews, but the prime rib French dip & sides surprisingly stole the show! The prime rib French dip is my top recommendation- the bread was perfectly crisped (but still soft on the inside) and didn't crumble when dipped & the meat was high quality. The truffle Mac and cheese was rich & was the truffle did not overwhelm the dish. The little gem salad was citrusy and herby- perfect at the beginning or in between dishes to break up the decadence. The steak was a 10/10, perfectly seared and cooked. Just excellent altogether. Dimly lit relaxed ambiance, with jazz music. Felt lush & elevated.
Be the first to ReplyNice small place, more hype than substance.
I would say that the food is good quality but for a price that should be great quality. If your into trendy then go otherwise there are better.
Be the first to ReplyGood food, and even better theatrics.
Definitely felt like an old school gentleman's club. There was fantastic attention to detail in terms of service. The place is very small, cozy and gives prohibition era vibes. We got the burger, truffle mac and cheese, and the lemon meringue pie. Everything was excellent, including the strong martinis. The mac and cheese is underrated - cheesy but not too creamy and lightly toasted to perfection.

This review is for Tock takeout, but I ate the food within 15 minutes of receiving it so I imagine it to be fairly representative of the restaurant experience. I got the King cut of prime rib and creamed spinach. The King cut was very large (advertised as 32 oz)...but it also had a substantial fat cap which was largely inedible. I've eaten a lot of prime rib, and I can say this one was decent but not standout. The jus also was nothing to write home about. The creamed spinach was interesting with the bleu cheese flavor, but a tad salty. Based on the prime rib alone, I think this place is overhyped. I may return to try their burger and french dip. The search continues for a truly excellent prime rib in NYC...

When I found this place on tik tok I told myself nothing was going to stop me from trying to get in. It's almost impossible to get in because they are always booked weeks out. I waited in line 45 min before they opened on a Tuesday (I was leaving to LA the next day) Luckily I got in and everything was 10/10 Best burger I've ever had in my 29 years The French dip was perfect and the Mac & cheese was also phenomenal.
Be the first to ReplyI have heard many ravings about this place and how it is
I have heard many ravings about this place and how it is the hardest reservation to get. Can confirm reservation was extremely hard to get - but my friend had an idea to just walk in. They arrived 30 mins before opening on a Sunday morning and was able to get seating for 2 when they opened at 11 am. Highly recommend using this method if you aren't able to snag a reservation but you must come early because the seats fill up almost immediately. The place itself has both outdoors and indoor seating and we were lucky enough to get seating inside. It is pretty dim and definitely more on the smaller side - hence the hard to get reservations but the service here was amazing. Our waitress was so nice and friendly and super attentative as well. For food we decided to get: -Truffle Mac and Cheese: Highly recommend this, super creamy and yummy -Truffle Fries: Honestly not my favorite fries but still solid -Double Wagyu Cheeseburger with cheese: Honestly the burger was good but I really am not just a burger person and I really wish I got something else instead. -Bone in Rib Eye: My friend got this and I got to try a piece of their steak and honestly it was very good. Very tender and flavorful, not tough at all. It also came with a side of hasbrown and eggs for brunch. Definitely would recommend this dish -Sundae Royale: highly recommend this dish as well. It pretty much is a make your own sundae and it was the perfect end for the whole meal. Great brunch place - would highly recommend you checking it out if you are able to snag a reservation or coming early to try it out! Great food and amazing service!!

Walked in at 4:55 and was rewarded with a table for 4 for 1 for 60 minutes. I've had proper Prime Rib at similar restaurants with the closest peer probably being the Alinea Group's St. Clair Supper Club in Chicago. Simply, 4 Charles Prime Rib has captured the essence of beef in a way that no other restaurant in America has. As an added bonus, the atmosphere is an exciting tribute to mid 20th century dining. Classy service and classic accompaniments abound. I regard the $145 King's Cut and the $125 fatty tuna tartare appetizer as the best purchase I've ever made with a tax refund. Though I've queued up a bunch of creative names to attach to those who play the reservation game at 4 Charles just to not eat the prime rib, it's hard to imagine that one can go wrong with any order here.

One of the most famous NYC institutions, hardest rez's and every food bloggers favorite NYC restaurant. I was originally going to give 4 Charles a 3 but I went a second time and have bumped it to a 4. What we tried- Shirley Temple: I am a sucker for a good Shirley temple and there's is amazing! They use dark Luxardo cherries and you can taste the difference. We didn't even end up getting cocktails bc this was amazing. Sizzling Shrimp Scampi: First time I got this it was way too salty but cooked nicely. The next time I went, my party really wanted to try it so we got it and it was better this time around! Loved soaking the garlicky bread in the scampi sauce. Good but I would probably skip if I go again. Little Gem Salad: I've surprisingly seen soo many reviews on this salad, and I was thinking how good can a simple little gem salad be?? I'll give it to them. It's good. Dressed nicely, crisp lettuce and I love that they serve it with a side of extra dressing. However for $26? Not worth it. We also did add the baked crab cake on top which was good but didn't blow my socks off. It was a nice fresh bite in between bites of the burger and other meat tho. Crispy Brick Chicken: Juicy. Love the jus. But thought this was average. Stick to red meat here. 10oz Double Wagyu Cheeseburger: What they're known for besides their prime rib! First time I got it, I thought meh. I did add egg and get bacon on the side. 2nd time I got it, we did just egg and it was amazing! Juicy, seasoned well. Great burger! Def get the egg but I felt the bacon took away from the wagyu patties. A must order bc duh but also bc it is delicious! Prime Rib French Dip: Good amount of food. Love the side of horseradish cream and jus to dip in. Again, my first time must've been a misfire bc the 2nd time was sooo much better! I like this over the burger personally but they're both decadent and oh so yummy. Creamed Spinach: Everyone at my table loved this. The blue cheese was little much for me but everyone else thought it was a subtle flavor. Truffle Mac & Cheese: Truffle and I have a love/hate relationship. It's been overdone so much that I just can't stand it sometimes. This Mac and cheese is THE BEST. So creamy and luxurious. The black truffle flavor is subtle so I keep going back for more. Must must order! Buttery Mashed Potatoes: Great garlicky flavor and I love that they use chicken jus for an extra oomph of flavor. I did think they could've made the consistency more smooth. This was good but not crazy good. Button Mushrooms: Looove the sherry cream sauce! Good onion flavor too from the caramelized and fried onions in this dish. A must order for me but my table thought it was ok. Golden Fries: Nicely cooked, salty (the way I like'm) and served with a side of ketchup and garlic aioli. Yum! Chocolate Cream Pie: My favorite dessert of theirs. Rich and creamy with that nostalgic Oreo crust. Not too sweet which is great! My first time, they also gave us a side of strawberry ice cream for free and the combo was giving chocolate covered strawberry. CHEF'S KISS!! Lemon Meringue Pie: Complimentary our second time visit. So sweet! I would've never ordered this on my own but it was better than I thought! Tart lemon curd, mile high torched meringue struck the right balance of sour and sweet. Both times, I was in their outdoor area. It's enclosed and was warm enough. They even had heating lamps. Furnished well that it didn't feel like we were outdoor. Mood lighting. Great for a date or for groups! Personally I think the menu is great for family style sharing. Service is top notch! Everyone is knowledgeable and go above and beyond for each customer. Really enjoyed them talking thru their faves and tips. They also do the burger show for each order. Love that! Everyone should go at least once. I hope to be back and try more of their menu!

Up until this evening, I was interested in future reservations and buyouts. After my experience this evening with what felt like a "downgraded experience" I'm no longer interested.
Be the first to Reply4 Charles is a spot that everyone in Manhattan that has any
4 Charles is a spot that everyone in Manhattan that has any idea of food is trying to get into. They're doing the right thing. It is certainly one of the best restaurants in NYC. I think one just needs to be a little careful with their ordering while at 4 Charles otherwise you might be having a heart bypass surgery with an empty wallet...but if you do that once a year, still worth it. I'll start with a controversial statement: the best dish is the little gem salad. It is not only one of the best salads I've had in any restaurant in NYC, but it provides much needed freshness to juxtaposition all the crazy heavy dishes that are coming, or are already out. Second controversial statement: the prime rib is the most underwhelming dish. It truly is. There is very little that is special about the prime rib, it's good, a standard for the 21st century in NYC, but it's not going to blow your socks off. Now the french dip and the burger, omg. They're both great, and really get it with the farm egg and bacon. That's the way to order this burger. The other thing you really want is crab cakes. I know weird to think a Prime Rib spot is the place for crab cakes, but it truly is. One of my favorite crab cakes period. The sides are great, the lamb chops even better, just keep ordering, you don't get to come here very often. I will continue to come to this small gem of a place with beautiful wood, and everything else you could ever want while you have great cocktails and eat the best burger in manhattan.
Be the first to ReplyGetting into 4 Charles is a horrible process.
You have seconds to just grab whatever time slot comes up. We went on a Sunday for brunch. We sat outside but their outdoors is setup like a comfy living room. Started with an espresso martini. For some reason I don't think I had ever had one before (I've had plenty since!). We began our meal with the pastries and jam. Everything in the basket was good. Next were the oysters which were good but the cocktail sauce was lacking something. Next we had the prime rib French dip. This was the most disappointing dish of the meal. It was ok but not worth getting. Our last dish was surprisingly the burger. I know who would ever expect someone to get a burger at 4 Charles. I loved every aspect of this burger. The show the waiter does with the egg drip is fun. With bacon and egg this burger is basically $50 and it doesn't include fries. Can I justify the price. No. If you think of food and a meal as an experience then 100% go for it. If you judge things solely on dollar value than this isn't the place for you.
Be the first to ReplyJUST AMAZING!!! Angie the host is great.
The service was OUTSTANDING. Food is the best I have ever had. The burger is the best I have ever had in my life and the steak sandwich was amazing! I could eat here every night! I definitely recommend this place.
Be the first to ReplyThe food is fantastic and staff very kind .
Hard to get into .I forin on standby had the 4 Charles prime cut green beans baked potato and chocolate cream pie
Be the first to ReplyAmbience was excellent, server was arrogant.
We received an incorrect order. We ordered their specialty prime rib on the menu for $119 and received the Chicago cut for $99. The waiter tried to tell us repeatedly it was the same thing - only sliced differently - and he'd bring the other but made us feel quite bad stating there was nothing they could do with what was already served. He did bring us a version of what we'd "ordered" but we received a fat-filled portion not suitable for human consumption (I believe they decided to show us what happens if we point out the error), though I did take it home for the dog. It was clearly "getting us back" - how dare we bring up what was brought to us lowly customers. Had that not occurred, our evening would have been lovely. Everything else we ordered was excellent. A $500 evening for two, However, wasn't worth the bill for all of the fat from the prime rib that I brought home for my discerning Shih Tzu.
Be the first to ReplyBest food and service in the city.
Lucky if you get a reservation here. Expensive spot but well worth it for a great meal. Small vibe with outdoor option 365 days.

In order to get a reservation here, you must post up at 8:59AM for the reservations slots to open on Resy for an opening 21 days in advance!! Refresh quickly, be logged in with a credit card on file, and be versed with the positioning of what slot you want. I felt lucky getting a 10PM slot...Ambiance (3/5): I got a text saying that my table was ready a half hour early but when I arrived, they must have given it away and we had to wait until our scheduled time. I was greeted at the doorway to get checked in. The inside is very small, dark, and decently loud. The atmosphere feels intimate and old school vibes. Bathrooms are up a narrow set of stairs. Service (5/5): The service is attentive with the waiter taking his time to explain the menu in detail. Some of the dishes are served from a main dish right to your plate. I definitely felt welcomed and attended to. It took a while to get our orders in but it was fairly quick getting our first dish. The whole experience took about an hour. Food: They were out of the Charles Cut and chicken.French Dip (5/5): Everything about the French Dip was perfection. The meat portion was generous, meat seasoned well, horseradish sauce on the side was a great complement to the dish, and the dip itself was very savory. Chicago Cut Prime Rib (4/5): The meat was very tender and marbled which melts in your mouth. There's some seasoning that is meant for the rib on the side but I wish the rib itself was seasoned. Truffle Mac & Cheese (4/5): The truffle flavor is wonderfully forward. However, I didn't think there was anything about this dish that I couldn't have had elsewhere. Overall (4/5): I'm glad the food tasted so good for the effort needed to secure the reservation. I thought it was a great dining experience but the price point is steep for what you're getting. I would definitely want to come back to try the burger.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing steakhouse! The burger is pretty good.
My favorite is the steak and the side dishes. The sauce that comes with the rib eyr is slightly sour, which I think is fine but some people don't like it.The 4 charles cut is very soft and tender. It xmes with horseradish sauce (which I'm not a fan) and the soup has a hint of soy sauce. The salad is really tasty as well. The chocolate cream pie is pretty good and the ice cream is normal, but their whipped cream is really good. Best customer service and has cozy vibe! The reservation for this place is quite hard to get.
Be the first to ReplyFor all the waiting it takes to get a table here, I
For all the waiting it takes to get a table here, I expected everything to be perfect and it almost was. There's obviously a demand to get a table but charging $5 per person just to make a reservation seems extra to me. We also had one person of our four person party cancel due to sickness last minute and unfortunate there's a charge for that! (Despite ordering well over the amount for 4 people). So we weren't the happiest people to walk in to start but we wanted to enjoy the experience nonetheless. Our table was delayed by 5-10 minutes because the party in front of us was sitting waiting for an uber and because there's no waiting area, it left us waiting in the snow/rain at 10:30pm. We had prompt service once we sat down. Initially we were told they're signature 4 Charles cut was sold out which disappointed us further but then the server came back and said they had 1 piece left. We ordered the cheeseburger, the French dip, the 4 Charles signature cut, the chicago, cut, truffle Mac and cheese, cream spinach, elote, mashed potatoes. Burger was tender and juicy. It was good but not sure I would go through the hassle of making reservations for it again. I did absolutely love the French dip. It was my favorite of the night and I would come back for it. Perfectly toasted and not at all soggy even with the jus. Between the 4 Charles cut and the Chicago cut, I preferred the Chicago. It was more tender and less salty. It focused more on the meats flavor rather than the seasoning of the 4 Charles. Truffle Mac and cheese was super rich but delicious. The blue cheese in the cream spinach was an amazing touch but a preferred taste at Mt table. Elote didn't get much attention, it was a bit too sour. The mashed potatoes were smooth, it's hard to knock mashed potatoes. The restaurant is small and quaint which was nice. It did get cold intermittently as the servers were going in and out to tend to the outdoor seating. Otherwise it was comfortable.Overall I'm not sure I'd stalk getting a table here again unless taking someone else for their first time. I might opt for take out instead for convenience.
Be the first to ReplyDefinitely worth the hype.
Service was impeccable. Daniel and Drew were awesome and very attentive. The cocktails were strong but good. We had to order the burger and it was just perfection. Add the egg and bacon to make it even more indulgent. Shrimp scampi was perfectly cooked and flavorful. The prime rib french dip was a little spicy but very good. Truffle Mac had good flavor and was creamy. We ordered the oysters which were refreshing. The salmon ceasar salad was crisp and delicious. The portions are generous and perfect for sharing. We were stuffed but we did order dessert. The lemon meringue pie is a show stopper with a mountain of meringue with a beautiful tart lemon filling. The chocolate cream pie, my favorite, was so rich and decadent. 10/10 for the food and service. A must try if you can get a reservation.

There was three of us in our party, and we went on a Tuesday night. Even for a Tuesday night it felt like a Friday night out in this swanky little restaurant. The service here was magnificent and I mean that about everyone even the attentive busboys who I didn't get their names. Brandon who was our waiter was great, he was very knowledgeable, attentive, and an all around entertainer. It was great watching him handle the floor and interacting with his tables. Angie who was the floor manager, was very welcoming. She had a great personality, she made us feel like we have been friends for years. Mario at the bar was another star. Welcoming from the moment we walked in to the moment we left. Just the staff alone is why I'm sure this place is such a success. Now on to the food. The presentation was very on point with the atmosphere. We had several courses so I'll review them in order. We started with the Otoro tarter with caviar. The butter toast complimented the tartare well. It had a nice almost coconut aroma to it. Next we had the Wagyu cheeseburger which was salty. Which is why I didn't give this place a 5 star review. We didn't say anything because we split it 3 ways as an appetizer so it was tolerable in a small portion. That being said, it was cooked right. The flavors were there but it was overwhelmed by the salt. I'm not sure if our burger was over seasoned or the bacon? Anyhow I'm going to write it off as an off night for the chef. Reading other reviews this can't be what they serve to every table. I do want to go back and give it another try. On to the main course. We got the King cut prime rib which was big enough to share between 2-3 people. The was excellent. They cooked it just right. The meat was tender as it should be. This is a definite winner and a must try. We also got the shrimp scampi which was also a bit salty but the bread balanced it out. The bread that came with the shrimp was also tasty itself. The cream of spinach had a crunch to the top, which was nice. The truffle mac & cheese was OK. I think I hyped that up in my head before arriving. The Elote style corn was really flavorful. I'm not a corn person, but that I will eat. The chili lime balanced the whole meal well because of all the other fatty items we ordered. I loved the desserts. The portions are generous, so be willing to share. The chocolate cream pie was delicious and not too sweet. The sundae royal was just FUN. You can't go wrong with ice cream but the presentation of the royal sunday just set the bar higher for all ice cream desserts. Overall we had a great dining experience. I didn't say Dinner, I truly mean an experience. Definitely worth the effort to get a table and I will be going back.
