Returned following a disappointing lunch
Following a disappointing lunch a few weeks ago for many various reasons and vowing never to return, i communicated with the restaurant manager who assured me an investigation would take place and a full review of what i complained about would take place and urged me to return again. So we did. We returned on a Wednesday lunchtime and tried the "Taste History - Labyrinth" seasonal set menu, which quite frankly was superb in every way. It included Venison Tartare Grilled Lamb Belly Octopus, Whelk and Cockles Bulls Head Rhyton Olive Oil โPerfumeโ the octopus, whelk and cockles was probably one of, if not the best dish I have ever eaten. I won't describe the dishes in full, despite having the full information card and receiving a full history lesson for each dish, but will include some pictures and urge anyone to try it The matching wines complimented the dishes precisely and were mainly Greek in origin. We finished with a nitrogen made ice cream form the theatrical style trolly. All in all it was an amazing experience I certainly believe in bad days in the office and our last visit was one of them, but this experience reminded my of previous good visits and we would return again...

Expensive and reassuringly expensive!

Located within the Mandarin Oriental hotel in Knightsbridge, London. Excellent restaurant! Food descriptions stimulate the brain. All dishes are incredibly flavoursome. Service is impeccable. All round excellent and not surprisingly reassuringly expensive! Lunch for two with an average bottle of wine (2 courses only) ยฃ310. Worth saving up for.

Beautiful Flavours, masterful cookery!
Came here for our 35th Wedding Anniversary. Was a little apprehensive having read about the Chef's 'different' way of cooking! My apprehension melted away straight away when the food started arriving. Before this though, I loved the choice of how much detail we wanted about our food when it arrived. We picked the middle option but I wished we had gone for the fullest explanation!! The meal was amongst the best I have enjoyed, stunning flavours in the sauces and fish cookery was spot on.

Located in the opulent Mandarin hotel, this restaurant
Located in the opulent Mandarin hotel, this restaurant provided me with a memorable dining experience while visiting in London. Though the dishes are elegant and modern, they are rooted and inspired by historic British cuisines so be prepared for that. We elected for the tasting menu as opposed to the a la carte, and felt full by the end. When you were seated, you are given three large cards by the host, which allow you to A.) Sit in silence and enjoy the dishes, B.) Dive into the preparations and details of what you're eating, or C.) Learn the history behind the dish. You can obviously change the card throughout the dinning experience, but we found C to be the most fun in discovering the history behind each of these dishes that were brought back from the past with modern re-invention. In addition to the food, they have a great list of wines available, as well as three wine pairing options to choose from (Classic, Premium, Prestige). We chose the Premium and Classic, which had a nice variety of bubbles/wine to pair with the meals. Highly recommend you give this place a try at least once the next time you're in London!
we had a great time, food was very good and quite interesting, however staff was a bit pushy and seemed to be in a constant rush, with was felt quite a lot
food, atmosphere, staff. worth every single penny spent and i would do it 10 times over. whether you're having a great date night, on a business dinner, or entertaining guests this is the way to go. thank you for an amazing service!
I took my brother and cousin here as a serious treat for my cousin's 40th birthday. As you can imagine, given the price tag and prestige of the restaurant this was a serious treat that came with high expectations. On arrival, we had an incredibly warm reception from the lady at front of house and the restaurant itself is beautiful. We had a great table overlooking the park and the wait staff were faultless. The rest of the experience was sadly very disappointing and on reflection perhaps the three of us shouldn't have all ordered the same thing. I had intended on going for the 5 course tasting menu but there was one starter that really called out to me which was the Marrowbone Welshcake not on the menu so we went a la carte. It was a tasty starter is probably the best I could describe it as. Then we all ordered the turbot for main with a side of cabbage and were upsold the chips. All very nice although my turbot was slightly overcooked. Lastly, the Tipsy Cake which was delicious. If served this meal anywhere else I would have said it was good and it was exactly that. It was a nice meal. The sad reality was then upon remembering that this was a two Michelin star restaurant owned by Heston Blumenthal. The bill came to around ยฃ770 and I would go as far to say this was a total rip-off. There was not one wow factor to any of the food and honestly would have rathered gone to any other french bistro for escargot and a (very small) bit of fish where the bill had been 1/4 of the price. Fine dining this was not which was a great shame. Thank you however to the fantastic wait staff and lovely reception team you were impeccable.
Amazing meal, service and view! We were the first sitting as the restaurant opened,l for lunch, we didnโt expect to have the place to ourselves so the atmosphere was very quiet.

Some fantastic food but we will never return
We have been to DINER 5 times over the years since it opened. 3 Years ago Dad had a series of mini strokes leaving him with memory problems and mobility issues. We wanted to return to DINER again, especially as Dad worked at the Hyde Park Hotel for many years in his early career, so a trip down memory lane. We booked for a friday afternoon in half term. the city was teeming with visitors and tourists so felt lucky to get a table in this 2 michelin starred restaurant. When we arrived the restaurant was empty with only 4 other tables being used. We were very surprised at it being empty. we ordered our favourite starter and it was as usual superb. Meat Fruit. An amazing dish that takes 3 days to make and is modestly priced at ยฃ26. Next we opened again for an old time favourite, the pork chop. This was sadly very disappointing. It has been changed from the usuall big fat pork chop with a bone and crispy rind, cooked on a searing hot grill, so a small piece of fatty pork that is cooked in what I imagine to be a sous vide way, as its very tender and pink (rare) and the fat is just white. the bone has gone, the accompanying vegetables have gone and it is served with a very tasty spelt side dish. This is ยฃ59. To add a few triple cooked chips is another ยฃ9, so for ยฃ68 you get a very underwhelming dish and it is hugely over priced and no where near the ยฃ68 price tag. There were 3 of us and we all had the same so nearly ยฃ220 for three main courses that were far worse than they used to be was a real negative for the event. Dessert was for me a Tipsy cake which as usual was superb and the others had a cheese cake, described as amazing the best cheesecake ever. Gone is a ganache in a tea cup and now replaced by a tiny tiny tartlet with a ganache in. We are not rich so an experience like this is saved for and knowing it would be expensive we had hoped it would have been better. we will not be back for a few reasons : 1. I looked through the wine list and found a bottle of red for ยฃ45. The wine waiter tried to upsell but I asked for a bottle of the cheapest red wine they had. I always do as i cannot tell the difference between the cheapest and a ยฃ100 bottle. When the bill came at the end the wine served was ยฃ59 and certainly more expensive than the ยฃ45 bottle I pointed out. They argued that the wine was what I said yes to when they brought it over.. 2. ยฃ70 for a plate of meat and a few veggies is a rip off, given it has changed from what it always was. If you changed the meat fruit completely but kept the name then there would be outrage. 3. I specifically asked that a booking near the end of service wouldn't mean we were rushed. This is a real let down as they stated sweeping the restaurat and cleaning up for the next service I guess.. The table was left covered in bread crumbs and a dirty plate for far longer than would have been during the first part of our diner. The cleaners weren't sweeping directly around us but we felt that given its huge price tag, the dining area could be left clear until all diners had gone. We felt like we are holding them up and should hurry up. Some elements were amazing but we felt the prices don't justify what we received and this was backed up by the restaurant being empty on a friday in a half term. the total bill for 3 diners was ยฃ559 and this is the same price as Ive just paid for a 7 night all included cruise in the August school holidays. Sadly after 6 visits we will never return.
We visited for my belated birthday meal. The food was amazing and the service was outstanding. All waiting staff were on point and our every need was met before asking. The sommelier looked after us (and our glasses) perfectly. Vladimir was our waiter for the evening and we couldnโt have asked for more from him. Each course was exceptional in presentation and flavour. The kitchen team know how to do their thing! Big thanks to you all for one of the best evenings weโve both had!!
I had been looking forward to going to Dinner by Heston for a long time. There are so many places in London to try but I must have mentioned it a few times as I was treated to the evening as a gift. Unfortunately, our overall experience was being left underwhelmed. The meat fruit ( the famous star of the show) looked great and it does have that wow factor but as many have said it did taste like any other parfait. No interesting or unique flavours. Definitely not unique or surprising. The other items in the tasting menu were regular. I think if I went to my local bistro pub and received this menu I would be impressed but for 2 Michelin starsโฆ. I think something is off. The week before I was in Amsterdam and visited BOUGAINVILLE. Hestonโs has nothing on this place for one comparison . We had a crab amuse bouche to start which was also very underwhelming. The service was good and friendly. However, they forgot bits which impacted the evening. I would not return or recommend actually. I also planned to go to Fat Duck this year but that now off my list. The hotel itself is lovely as is the extensive wine list. Lots of choice. I also enjoyed the option to have full description of each dish or to let the food do the talking. Unfortunately, an interesting back story just is not enough to make Dinner by Heston. I feel when people think of Heston they think of the lights, camera and action. However, this is a normal restaurant experience.

Excellent food and service
We came for a birthday celebration and were not disappointed. Despite some of the reviews below, our expectations were truly met. The food was absolutely delicious. The mandarin starter was superb and extremely creamy. The mains were also stunning and the mushroom pie was delicious with a rich truffle sauce. The chips were good and very crispy. We less liked the deserts which were quite bitter but the Jamie dodger at the end was delicious. Service was also fantastic. Compared to many other places we've eaten at, we felt the money for food and service was inline with expectations. Would definitely recommend this for a special dinner.

Expensive but a great meal
Tasting menu for me and my wife, a glass of champers to start, a bottle of reasonably priced white wine with the meal, one glass of red each, a glass of sweet dessert wine each, and cup of tea at the end. ยฃ720 for both of us. Expensive but GREAT food and we had a brilliant night. Definitely a treat for a special occasion but be prepared to spend!
This was by far the very best dining experience I and my family have had - EVER. ( and we have been to some pretty decent places ) Ignore any negative feedback- this a MUST do experience. The food was superb , complimented by the warm and friendly staff, the atmosphere- just everything. You can opt to have food delivered, or explained, or all of that plus the history of the dish - we opted for the latter and were cared for by MARINA - Thank you for a memorable evening- made by you - - and this is the point - the total experience, staff, food, theatre - was made by the service - not overbearing, not slow - just on point from start to finish . We were privileged to be be given a brief tour, introduced to the kitchen staff opposite the chefs table and also taken around the private dining room - which for me was a superb added bonus. Itโs an open kitchen and what struck me was the calm, clean organised work carried out by these fabulous people - nothing messy/shouty in sight - I loved every single minute of the evening from when I took my coat off. If I could rate it higher- I would-. WE WILL BE BACK

We went for lunch service over the holidays and had a decent experience. The restaurant was empty when we entered and filled up about 70% by the time we left around two. We sat at a nice table facing Hyde Park.We ordered a la carte to try more variety of dishes between the two of us. The signature dishes were good (meat fruit and tipsy cake at the end). Tipsy cake is literally a bed of butter so probably a heart attack! The confit chicken and scallops were both good as starters. The ribeye was your typical ribeye with fries, nothing special at all. Expected more out of a Heston slab of steak. The squab was good but smaller pieces on the bone rather than cuts of just meat.Lastly, the service was just ok for a two Michelin star restaurant. Plenty of servers, but most were standing around trying (and failing) to look busy. The floor supervisors were busy. Would we come back? Yes. Would this be our first choice to eat? No.

Overall a fine meal, food was pretty good-good, nothing
Overall a fine meal, food was pretty good-good, nothing really outstanding or over the top. The a la carte menu is nice, as are the stories about the dishes. The space is pretty dramatic with high ceilings and an "open" kitchen behind glass. Service is hit or miss, it can be slow and water cups weren't regularly filled. But once our food started coming the meal was pretty well paced. The cocktails and wine were decent. The experience is not on par with 2 star restaurants, but neither is the price (feels cheap!). This is closer to a 1 star michelin but I assume holds 2 because of the name and location. Not a bad meal, just not somewhere I'm itching to go back to.

In our ongoing quest to eat at every Michelin restaurant we can possibly afford, we had dinner at..... Dinner. We ordered the tasting menu, as one must, and I will admit to being a little fearful of what we'd be eating, since the menu is a riff on ancient English recipes. We all know England isn't known for its cuisine, now or at any point in history. The descriptions made me very nervous. Thankfully my fears were completely unfounded. Every course was an absolute delight. In particular, the pineapple dessert, was insanely delicious. We also ordered the wine pairing package, which was full of thoughtful and unique pairings. Unfortunately, the wine pairing is where they are losing a star from me. These had to have been the stingiest pours I've ever had from a Michelin-level wine pairing. The wines being served were not extremely expensive wines, so we felt like this pairing package was not worth the expense, which is probably the first time we have *ever* felt that way about a wine pairing at a Michelin dine. And that's saying something.Other than that, the interior was jaw-dropping gorgeous. They have a card system where you can indicate the level of interaction you want to have with the staff surrounding your dishes and wines, which I thought was a very nice touch. All in all, I do highly recommend this restaurant, but skip the skimpy wine pairing and just buy your own bottle--or-two-- and get what you actually pay for.

I hate to give such a low rating to such a lovely restaurant and staff but if we were just basing this on the food, three stars would be generous. Let's start with the positives. I liked the restaurant and atmosphere. Located in the Mandarin Oriental hotel, it was classy but not at all stuffy. The staff were friendly and attentive without being overbearing or pretentious. The wine selection was great. The chicken liver parfait was good and the fries were excellent, the fries or 'chips' I should say, were some of the best I've ever had (even better than the duck fat fries at Stripsteak in Mandalay Bay). The plating was also beautiful and the pace was good. Now the bad: The beef was borderline terrible. It was chewy to the point of being sinewy. The sauce was delicious but this was a ribeye cut, with little to no fat. Even grass fed ribeye cuts I've had contain more fat and were far more tender than these slices. To the kitchen's credit, the beef was cooked to a perfect medium-rare. However, of course, the perfect medium-rare cooking only accentuated the terrible quality of the meat. Since the ribeye was our main course, this was a letdown. The remaining dishes were not particularly memorable. There was a quail dish with smoked consommรฉ, the consommรฉ had a sweetness and tanginess that tasted disjointed from the quail. Their famous tipsy cake was mostly good but really sweet, couldn't take more than a few bites. Decades ago, by some featured restaurant article that now eludes my memory, The Fat Duck was not only ranked the best restaurant in England but the world. I've wanted to try it ever since I first read about it. When I heard the same chef had opened this restaurant in London, which was way more convenient for a tourist such as myself to visit, I had to try it. If my bill were cut into half or a third, it wouldn't sway my opinions about how much I didn't enjoy the dishes. At 1/2 or 1/3 the price, it would merely incite bewilderment, I'd think, "how could they afford so much staff and time plating such delicious looking dishes at 1/2 or 1/3 what we paid in such a venue?" Conclusion? Maybe too much spent on ancillary benefits and not enough on the food.
This was our first time at a 2 star Michelin and it did not disappoint. Every bite was full of carefully crafted flavors. The experience was just magnifiquรฉ. They boast meals from 13th century England and beyond with a twist. I had the duck and it melted in my mouth. It was so good I had to pause a moment and just savor it before swallowing. The atmosphere is a subtle nod to that old English time period and you can choose how you want your meal explained (if at all). If you ever have the chance you MUST visit.
