While I Sodi remains one of the hardest restaurants in NYC to get a reservation, the lasagna is so worth it. Intimate atmosphere but great vibes and service, not snooty like some tough to get in NYC restaurants.
So I've never actually heard of this place as a New Yorker however, it's obviously hard to hear of every single establishment in this great city LOLMy cousin and I scheduled a very very last minute date to meet up and she was recommended this place by a colleague. The place opened at 4, she got there at 5:45 (i was sitting in my car to avoid a ticket) she texted me that all tables were full and there was a 2 1/2 hour wait. I told her no way that's ridiculous and let's just sit at the bar. Bar was FULLWe were immediately disheartened and ended up going somewhere nearby (I will not disclose where since this place deserves its credit) Anyway plot twist, we were going to hit a bar and she shows me a text from I Sodi that a bar seat will be available in 10 mins. We took this as a sign and went right back!!!Though we had just ate, once you step foot in this place, the AIR alone, you can test the food. It was like nothing I'd ever experienced. So, we ended up ordering the spinach ricotta ravioli (we shared it was about 12 nicely stuffed raviolis) and we ordered the bread. This ravioli, IS THE BEST RAVIOLI I've ever had in my entire life. (And I've had my share!!!) it was light, it was fresh. The bread and the OIL! Omg. Amazing. We paired it with a Negroni Terra (recommended by our awesome bartender/waiter Chris) absolutely delicious and will be coming back once I try and get a reservation!! **definitely try and book a reservation first
My sister and I have been trying to get a reservation at I Sodi for a while and have been unsuccessful. After being rejected from multiple restaurants in the area, we thought we would attempt to walk-in around 5pm on a Saturday. We were greeted by Chris, who was very friendly and put us on a waitlist (!!!). After only about 45 minutes, we got the text that our table was ready. Much to our surprise and delight, Chris was then our server too! He made the entire experience amazing for my sister and I. Outside of the fact that the food was delicious, its worth stopping by and asking for Chris if you want to add some charm to your evening!
This place only takes reservations EXACTLY two weeks ahead (which I learned from studying Resy and finally getting ahold of someone to say the same). So I stayed up till midnight to snag a reservation for the date I needed. 12:01am - no reservations available. 12:02am - same thing until 1:00am. Next morning, still nothing. I tried to call both numbers over and over and it said you couldn't leave a message. So I emailed and got an excuse that didn't acknowledge the question I even asked. I know this place is small, but it also seems like because they are full every night, they can be rude and have no customer service at all. I spent hours of research reading reviews for nothing.
I dined at I Sodi three years ago and it quickly became my #1 restaurant in NYC. The intimate atmosphere, amazing food and drinks- what else's can you ask for? Here I am coming again to NYC for my birthday and of course I would like to celebrate at my favorite spot. I spent 3 months monitoring their openings for reservations (the place is very small and it is hard to get reservations). I finally got a spot for prime time on the night before my birthday! I told my son all about it: we talked about the menu and we're excited. We arrived 15 minutes early to be greeted by not so nice host. There were three of us: my husband and I and our 3 year old who had been looking forward for this special treat. The host kinda gave us a look but I figured he was just cold getting out to greet us and didn't pay much attention. After about 7-10 minutes he said the table was ready and asked for our vaccination cards. Both my husband and I provided ours and then he asked for one for OUR 3-YEAR OLD SON! I explained to him that he can't get vaccinated yet (I wish!) but the host in quite mean way told us that since our son is not vaccinated, we can't dine inside!?!?!?!? Excuse me? He did offer to seat us outside but their outside area is pretty horrible and there was a huge pile of trash just next to the restaurant entrance, not to mention it was 30 degrees outside. I asked the host to talk to the chef a.k.a. the owner but he immediately said it will not change anything, this is their policy. It not listed on their website, Resy doesn't mention it, even the NYC Covid mandate lists everyone age 5 and older required to be "carded" with the vaccination proof. I believe this host merely discriminated us because we had a child (well behaved and with a great taste). Not only it is against the law to discriminate based on age but it is also a bad business practice. I am sure they don't care they lost one patron out of the city but I hope my review will keep some locals out as well. Stay away from this place. Attaching the screen grab from I Sodi website about vaccine mandate-they state they are only asking for it from guests age 5 and older but yet required it from my 3 year old.
I sodi is a very expensive, small italian restaurant in the west village that is basically impossible to get a reservation for. If all that scares you off you shouldn't go. IIf it doesn't scare you off, I sodi has some of the best, most authentic italian food I've had in the city and I genuinely look forward to going there.Starting off, I recommend getting to the restaurant right when it opens and putting your name down to dine at the bar. Some days are busier than others, but if you don't do so you probably won't be able to dine there.Food 4.5/5: I Sodi food is expensive but they're a few dishes they do extremely well. Appetizers wise, all the options are good but they're extremely pricey and imo the only option that is really worth it is the fried artichokes. When it comes to entrees, I sodi makes an amazing cacio e Pepe that's a must have. Service / ambience 4/5: Classy but cozy restaurant feel and the servers are very professional when you get inside. However the process of having to get into the restaurant (lining up, leaving your name, etc.) given the lack of reservation availability isn't the most pleasant so docking a point for that.
Perfect Al dente pasta served simply to really let the pasta shine. Shine it does. If you want classic Italian American fare- this is not your jam. No red sauce to be had. If you want expertly made pasta, delicious appetizers (baby artichokes) or solid secondi dishes, this might be your jam. Don't sleep on the drinks either. Had the best sazerac outside of New Orleans and the best Negroni. Place is charming and a little sexy too. One of the best meals I have ever had.
Bread is wheat: why? Wine menu was difficult to read (the font). Food was good. Truffle options were fine. No matches :/ AOC was eating at the bar, not sure it was her vibe.
Very disappointing as I had this restaurant on the top of my go to list. Was so excited to get a last minute reservation as it was a celebratory occasion with my daughter. The food itself was okay, nothing special and left us feeling the opposite of what we felt when we booked the reservation. From the minute we walked in, I can't say that we were greeted by the door because it was not welcoming at all. Seated by a table near the door where the cold air kept blasting in everytime the staff went in and out leading us to where our coats during the meal.We were excited to have the cacio pepe lasagna (one of the main reasons we wanted to go) only to find out it wasn't on the menu that night. We were told the specials and ordered the burratta with truffle and honey. Buyer beware... it was a tiny piece of burratta with no hint of honey on it. The bigger shock was to discover the price of it when I received the bill. Please, if you do go here, ask the prices of the specials and note that they charge for bread and olives!During the course of the meal a shard of glass broke off and cut my companions two fingers leaving her bleeding. We called the maitre'd over and he asked, 'how did that happen' in what I felt was an accusatory tone. Like I carry around bits of glass in my purse. They did bring out band-aids and checked on us but was disappointed that there was no recrimination on their part. A we're sorry was no where to be found. Can I get you a drink or dessert on the house for this, nope. NOTHING. So we left, disappointed, cut up, and with a totally opposite feeling of the excitement we felt when we made the reservation.
Writing this review months after my visit because I still dream about the lasagna. Service was awesome and the Negronis were amazing definitely go out of your way / make time for this experience of a lifetime. 10/10 would recommend
It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!
