I love sitting at a tasting counter where you can watch the chefs do their thing. It also promotes conversation with your fellow diners (as does the glass of champagne they serve you upon being seated). Loved the whiskey drinks made and served tableside. Too many courses to comment on each on e but loved the uni, samara (and I don't even like beets), and the koshiibuki rice. I didn't notice them roasting the yellow chicken on a wood grill but it was phenomenal. They take you to a separate room for dessert (helps the turnover to the second service) but the room is charming and you get to socialize with more of your fellow diners. Everything was quite lovely. The service was friendly but professional. There is great attention to detail ( they noticed my neighbor left handed and he had served his cutlery appropriately). Quite pricey but would highly recommend.
Be the first to ReplyWhat a beautiful dining experience.
.. we came here for our anniversary dinner and were treated like royalty... It felt like we were being led to a secret pop up Michelin star restaurant... from the hidden waiting room area to the long stair case past the dessert bar area... to the opening of the most beautiful and bright chef table dining experience... Everything was immaculate from the plating (as you will see in the pictures) to the spotless and beautiful kitchen... no detail was left to chance... Each dish was so complex... I couldn't keep the details stored in my brain to recall... so many dishes were the peak of culinary perfection... from robust flavors to complimentary delicacy and respect of the ingredients... there was intentional purpose felt in every bite... Here is where I will plead with my fellow foodies to choose the non-alcoholic beverages... I know... it sounds crazy... but the thoughtful creative pairing of each drink and the dish was mind blowing! It's absolutely deserving of its Michelin stars... the price point matches its well deserved accolades... Just take a look at the beautiful pictures and know that the service is even better... If you have any special occasions coming up... make your reservations and make your way to a magical culinary journey and unforgettable experience...

This is one of the most beautiful kitchens ever! The presentation of the dishes was beautiful, the plating and silverware for each course was well thought out. I try to come in with an open mind for what I'm getting into and the less I know about a place, the better, so I try not to read too far into reviews until after the fact so that I can make my own opinions and am not sitting and waiting in anticipation of certain dishes. Personally, Kinga, the GM, made the dining experience for me. She was knowledgeable, personable, and didn't judge a book by it's cover (I made my reservation on the fly and wasn't dressed like everyone else). We did the Jont wine pairing, which was very good. Dessert was delicious, but I was sooo stuffed from the main room that dessert didn't get the appreciation and attention that it deserved, but the strawberry one was my favorite! (a handful of quick snaps from the experience)

We came for a milestone birthday and it was a really special experience from the ambiance to the service and of course the food :) The standouts for us were the butterfish, truffle crab rice, the a5 wagyu zabuton and lamb (though i think the upcharge for the wagyu serving is a tad steep for the quantity) and surprisingly, the chicken. I loved the chicken wing & how it kept its shape with the crispy skin and wing meat texture but the inside was stuffed and soooo juicy! After your courses at the chef's counter they take you to the pastry lounge for a few courses of desserts. While they were all really unique I do wish we had less dessert courses and 1 more savory course but thats just personal preference Definitely a place reserved for special occasions given the $$$ but worth trying at least once!
Be the first to ReplyWent here for an anniversary/birthday treat.
It was our favorite food experience of our life so far. Everything was cooked to perfection and unique. The service was impeccable. The flavors were so addicting... you wanted to lick your plate clean. The atmosphere was interesting, unique, and intimate. Wine pairing was great also. Well explained and fit well with the plates. There are so many little things about how you're treated here that makes you feel appreciated. Started us off with champagne for our anniversary and at the end of the night gifted me a delicious snickerdoodle cookie with a candle lol. Loved it. Can't forget the cat toy they gave us too (they are clever enough to ask questions about you and your life to pick up on things for these little additions). They also sent us home with popcorn! Treat yourself! You won't regret it. We'll be talking about this for years, and we'll definitely be back again.

Wow, just wow! Dined at Jont on Saturday night, and the entire experience was incredible. Some of the (very few) less than outstanding reviews have said that the food did not match the food at other Michelin Star restaurants. Nothing could be further than the truth. I have also dined at Michelin-starred restaurants both in the US and Europe, and it is only a matter of time before Jont gets a third star. While each serving was outstanding, here are my personal favorites: 1. The Wagyu Tartare was a highlight of the opening snack. 2. the Koshiibuki Rice-Niigata was wonderful, adding in truffles with the king crab is a must! 3. You wouldn't think chicken would be a highlight, but the Yellow Chicken had so much flavor that I was trying to suck every morsel of meat off the wing. It only because of space that I only named three favorite courses, as I loved them all. As for the service, it rocked. I wish I had gotten the names of everyone who took part as I don't want to leave anyone out. Thank you to everyone who made us feel special from the moment we walked in. Special kudos go to Gabriel, Eric, and Autumn who saw to our every need. While some "event" meals are one and done, meaning that once I experienced them I had no desire to go twice, Jont makes me want to return as often as I can.
Be the first to ReplyFantastic food and service.
Expensive but worth the cost. Each of the 30 items were delicious. The wine pairings were well chosen. Staff is courteous and efficient. I highly recommend Jont!

Come early and enjoy a cocktail in their lounge area before making your way up. I was still sipping on mine when our table was ready and the host had it brought to our table. That was a nice touch. Personalized tablets welcome you and guide you through menu options. We decided to update to the truffles and we appreciated the elevation brought to the dish. The flavors were amazing in each dish and I couldn't help but think of the movie Willy Wonka as the flavor profiles seemed to burst in your mouth at different points in every bite! Each ingredient really shined in these dishes. The throwback songs are right up our alley and caught ourselves singing along a few times. Wine pairing was amazing, and I appreciated the story to why they selected these wines and the history of the vineyards. The bathrooms were a skip away, with automated seats that lifted upon and arrival, were heated, and had a Digital Touch operation pad. It's the coziest bathroom I've ever been in with fun fishy wallpaper and dimly lit. Every time I had to use the restroom they promptly replaced my napkin with the a fresh one. We both appreciated the interactive elements of our meal- like selecting your chopsticks and then moving to a different area for dessert and unboxing each section. The staff were all pleasant and each had their own vibe. The level of attention we had the amazing privilege to view and watch from our seats is unforgettable.
Be the first to ReplyJaunt - more like "haunt".
.. haunted by a search for greatness. Overall very middle of the road experience. Was hoping for many standout dishes, but most of them were meh. A few weren't very tasty, and I didn't finish them (the uni, the mushroom broth). Standout dishes were the first bites (the steam bun and the brioche), a Japanese whitefish with a lovely herbal sauce, the rice, the tempura mushroom, the bread with the main course, and the shaved ice dessert was excellent - very light, flavor, and unique. The rest was pretty average and unmemorable. I had a scallop sub for the beef course, and it was pretty unremarkable and overwhelmed by a truffle sauce. The service was quite nice, but there were a few service misses - a wine glass was taken away before the beverage was finished and the hot towels were served with the main dish so they were cold by the time we were done eating. Surprised it's a 2 star Michelin. For this price point, I would instead recommend a "jaunt" to NYC for Le Bernadin or to Napa for The French Laundry. Those are totally worth it!
Be the first to ReplyPresentation was beautiful and service was great.
The food was good, but not spectacular for a 2 Michelin star spot. Perhaps there are better seasonal menus.
Be the first to ReplyRecently, I had the delightful opportunity to dine at Jont
Recently, I had the delightful opportunity to dine at Jont with a friend, and capturing its unique charm in words is no easy task. Their absolute commitment to detail and impeccable service is transcendent. We were asked our preference for still or sparkling water and, before I could even fathom needing a refill, my glass was artfully replenished - a maneuver they managed to pull off without us noticing. An out-of-the-box, yet refined, gesture was encouraging customers to place phones on a small rectangular pad; this seemingly small touch amplified the élan and clean aesthetics of the space incredibly. After a course demanded finger-food etiquette, warm towels were presented, much to our appreciation. The warm and convivial staff was like the cherry on top - always eager to engage in friendly banter, creating an atmosphere akin to dining with friends. Moving on to the real star of the night: the food. Rather than an exhaustive critique of the extensive litany of dishes, I'll share a few standout highlights. The bafun uni - a symphony of savory, richness, and portioned perfection, presented beautifully. The medai was sheer palatable delight; the koshiibuki rice encapsulated truffle's sheer indulgence. The wagyu beef, so exquisite, it forced a revelation - it was as though I was truly discovering wagyu' full potential for the first time. Following this course, we were chaperoned to another section of Jont for dessert - our tantalizing second act. The butter mochi dessert was simplicity at its most deceptive, morphing into an under-the-foam surprise of mochi that left us in awe. To conclude, a playful puzzle-box containing 8 dainty sweet treats was offered. We decided to take ours home (of course, eating the freshly baked madeleines while they were still fresh), accompanied by a mint matcha latte for our morning enjoyment - a final note of deliciousness. In a nutshell, this was not my last visit to Jont. I'm excited to return soon!

This was one of the very best meals of my life, if not the best. From start to finish, every single bite had the most perfect and surprising flavors. It just kept getting better. The pumpkin chawanmushi was the best chawanmushi that i've ever had. I also could not get over the bluefin tuna with salted raspberry, it was so satisfying and the sauce was addicting. I also got the White Truffle addition. At some other restaurants, i've thought that the truffles weren't worth the money, but that was not the case at Jônt, the white truffles were very high quality and truly enhanced the dishes that they were shaved on. The kinki and the koshibuki rice were also both favorites. The rib cap and tongue were very memorable as well, and in my opinion steak courses can be easy to forget about. Even though every course was incredible, the highlight of the night was their duck course. It was seriously the best duck that i've ever had, the fat was rendered so perfectly, and the sauce was so rich and sweet yet savory. The bread was also insanely good and the broth went so well with the dish, the mushroom stuffed with sausage was very good as well. After the savory courses concluded, we were brought to their dessert parlor. It started with a "tasting of strawberry" which had 3 different small bites one of which was Japanese strawberries. The next dessert was a Concord grape shaved ice dessert that reminded my boyfriend and I of a PB&J, it was so delicious. The last dessert was a Mont Blanc, which was of course insane as well. The evening finished with a huge box of mignardises. Jônt might be pricey, but its worth every cent, it can easily be compared to the other 3 Michelin starred restaurants that i've been to, I won't be surprised once they get awarded with it. Thank you to the whole team for an unforgettable meal.

We had the privilege of dining here for our first time to celebrate our anniversary and from the moment we entered the dining area the ambience set the tone for our journey of an absolute amazing culinary experience. I'm a hip-hop and R&B head, so the playlist vibes won me over from the jump -- As it relates to the courses, the flavor profiles from beginning to end were truly divine leaving us with a difficult decision to identify a particular favorite when all of the courses were incredible. I also applaud and appreciate the smaller, but important details relative to plating presentation, pairing of utensils, and exceptional service. Ultimately, Jônt lives up (and arguably exceeds) its reputation as a Michelin two-star acclaimed restaurant and is highly recommended. Thank you for a very memorable anniversary dinner and we are excited to return again in the near future!

Jont just keeps getting better and better!!! It's been a while since I have been there and I pleasantly surprised to find that not only did they maintain the same excellence I had during a previous experience, but they actually went and raised the bar making the restaurant that much more epic. Everything from the food the ambiance and the staff are absolutely perfect. When I say perfect I mean perfect, they don't miss a thing. I can honestly say that I am surprised that Jont does not have 3 Michelin stars as I truly believe they are at that level.
Be the first to ReplyI had an incredibly disappointing experience at this
I had an incredibly disappointing experience at this two-star Michelin restaurant. The service was painfully slow, with our food taking a whole hour to arrive. We ordered a $150 bottle of wine, only to be informed 30 minutes later that they didn't have it anymore - a baffling situation. The sea urchin soup was a frozen disaster, making it clear that quality control was nonexistent. To top it off, the nearly $1400 check left a bitter taste that surpassed any of the poorly executed dishes. This place is undoubtedly the worst in the DC area. Adding to the misery, Chef Ryan was present throughout our ordeal, yet did nothing to salvage the experience. Despite the evident chaos, his lack of intervention or effort to rectify the situation further solidifies this restaurant as a regrettable choice in the DC area. The dismal experience was exacerbated by the blaring and cringe-worthy music that filled the restaurant - a cacophony of bad rap with offensive lyrics. It seems even the ambiance was a dreadful mismatch, contributing to the overall disappointment of this Michelin-starred establishment.

This experience was amazing!!! It is expensive but I will go again. The food, the service, the staff, the ambiance was amazing!!! I thoroughly enjoyed my dining experience at Jont. I was even able to speak with Chef Ryan. He was extremely humble and friendly. I can not wait to return!!!

Prior to our reservation, they did call to ask about allergies, dislikes, and special occasions! There is some street parking and some garages nearby. Jont is located above Bresca. We had the door opened for us and we were greeted and taken upstairs immediately into an intimate room with seats around a kitchen. They take your coat for you if you request it.We were asked for sparkling or still water and offered some champagne. I believe they also offer non-alcoholic sparkling for those who don't drink. There is an tablet with the drink menu for your selections before the meals begin. We did opt for the truffle experience for an extra $150 I think it was. Although it was good and they do give you a fair amount to pair with some dishes, it can be overpowering. I would suggest that if you go with someone, one person opts for the truffle.I did enjoy most of the dishes, some had a lot of flavors that can be a little overwhelming. Everyone was so gracious and nice and service was excellent. You're taken to a lounge area with tables right outside the kitchen area for desserts, coffee or dessert beverages. When we left, they gave us a copy of the menu for the evening and it's when your back downstairs that you get your coat. They also knew that I had a dog and had dog treats for me to take home! It's a great experience to have and we do plan to come back. I was definitely full by the end of the meal but all the desserts were fantastic.

Jônt was kind of like a nice deja vu, as we had been here for the chef's tasting at Bresca; Jônt is now utilizing that same space upstairs for their chef's counter seating. The tasting menu has about 32+ items, using seasonal ingredients. What I like about Jônt's menu is that it's Japanese seafood-forward and has that nice Asian flare to each of their dishes.I'm kind of obsessed with their little bites and tartlets - it's the perfect combination of savory!Note that they cannot accommodate dietary restrictions and allergies.Reservations are required on Resy, and they also have special collaborations and wine tasting events. I was so disappointed that I missed out on the Jungsik one as it was sold out quickly!Service is friendly and great, and the vibe is comfortable and relaxed.Definitely a favorite in the D.C. area - great for date nights or for any one who enjoys a clean and tasty menu.Limited metered parking in the area.+offers various collabs and special events - gets sold out quickly!+friendly service+reservations required on Resy+limited metered parking in the area
Be the first to ReplyHidden away on the top story of another DC restaurant, Jont
Hidden away on the top story of another DC restaurant, Jont offers a not-to-be-missed dining experience. From the moment you walk in to the time you leave, the service is impeccable. There are 32 courses - 16 savory and 16 sweet - with a unique range of flavors and textures. The details were incredible, and writing them all would not do it justice. The 15th and 16th course, the pinnacle, was an aged duck breast with a Japanese bread to absorb the sauce the duck came with. Chef's kiss. One of the most memorable parts though, and just a testament to the level of detail and thought throughout this dining experience, was the Jeni's ice cream that Andrew hand delivered at the end of the night after sneakily asking during the meal if we had ever gone and what our favorite flavors were! The 32 courses were all amazing, unique and delicious in their own ways but this surprise made the most special night even that more special. I hope to have the opportunity to return here.
Be the first to ReplyMy fiancé and I had the most amazing experience.
Food, service, and music was excellent. We were 15 mins late due to traffic so it's super important to make sure to show up on time as they serve each dish to everyone around the same time. They were understanding and caught us up with no issues. Food: I loved every single dish but my favorites included the starter with tuna and caviar and the uni on pumpkin chawanmushi, kombucha, and soymilk. Koshiibukin rice had a generous amount of truffle and the duck was perfectly cooked. My favorite of the desserts was kakigori: shaved ice jasmine, strawberry, amazake. Ambience: Sad to see a previous review calling it "rap" when it's actually a mixture of different genres. In my opinion, the playlist was great. I didn't feel like I had to whisper when talking. Service was top tier. Everyone we spoke to was very friendly. They all took great care in everything they did.

Definitely inappropriate for a Michelin restaurant. The food quality cannot overcome horrible ambiance.

This is not just dinner, this is an experience! Our first official experience of 2023 was at the magical Jônt, and they did not disappoint. Here's a couple of things to keep in mind:It can be expensive, so just be sure to budget ahead of time so you can live your BEST life! It's above/inside of Bresca, so don't worry, you're in the right place if you're there. (We almost got lost lol.)Get the drinks! I promise you, it's worth it. We enjoyed wine pairings as well as cocktails.Engage with the staff! They are absolutely lovely and they really want to make it worth your while, so lean into it.Take a second and enjoy where you are. It's such an intimate space, I felt like I was transported somewhere else! Don't stay on your phone the whole time, just enjoy it.
Be the first to ReplyCame here a while back and had an exceptional meal.
There's definitely some places that are weak 2 stars and even some weak 3 stars. This is very strong 2 star and will be 3 soon enough. Some things needed to be worked out to get there but they'll get there and when they do this will be one of the greatest restaurants in the country.
