Food wasn't worth the price paid.
Lobster noodles and crab fried rice were good but both had limited pieces of meat. Each plate was $30+ and was barely enough of a portion size for two people to share.Layout of indoor restaurant is awkward. I understand they wanted to cram in as much seating as possible, but they could really have left some space in the front of the restaurant. They sat us at a table literally in front of the entrance. Really hurt the ambiance feeling every draft from the door opening or suddenly having a group of people standing right behind you waiting to be seated.Service was lacking, not very attentive.
The food was interesting, delicious and nicely presented - all of this set in a lovely professionally designed room. And an attentive and caring server to boot! But here's the rub. We (a party of three), were running late for our 6:00 reservation because of an accident blocking two lanes on the approach to the Midtown Tunnel. We called the restaurant and explained the situation and would arrive at 6:10, this according to our nav. The woman answering the phone tells us that they will hold the table for 15 minutes, after that it will have to be given away, instead of saying thanks for the call, see you soon. We arrive exactly at 6:10, and are then told by the hostess (presumably the same person) that our reservation and table will only available for our use until 8:15! I don't think I've ever been told in all my years of dining out, as I walked into a restaurant, how long I had the table for before I'd have to vacate. This really rude we-have-all-the-business-we-need attitude was so offputting that it made us think twice about returning to this restaurant. Not sure if this Jean-Georges offspring establishment has such a rigid policy, or was this simply an employee going overboard - I think it's policy.

When people ask me what are my top restaurant's I'd recommend in the city, Wayan holds one of the top spots. I've only been here to dine once, as a friend was in town and we were able to snag a resy for 3 at the last minute and this establishment had been on my wishlist for awhile. Wow, it truly did not disappoint. Let's start with food. The flavor profiles here are so complex and unique. The dishes they serve here are truly unlike anything I've had before. I love fusion places, and this spot only further illuminates that. Here's what we ordered:- Vegetable Spring rolls: comes with two, deliciously crispy and paired with delicate dipping sauce- Ceviche: super refreshing and light- Lobster Noodles: I dream of this dish. This is a MUST order when coming here. The noddles and coated in sauce and there are large chunks of lobster distributed throughout. A very elegant, well thought out dish.- Pork Rib: a meat-falling-off the bone type of dish. Very tender and very strong taste. This is cooked to perfection. Another must order IMO.- Nasi Goreng: out of everything we ordered this was the least impressive, which is funny because it was still very delicious. I think the flavor was pretty decent and it's nice that there is a fried egg on top, but this is a dish that you could skip. - Corn Fritters: We ordered this simply because everyone online raves about it! It was definitely interesting and worth trying. Not my personal favorite, but I would eat it again if given the chance!- Chocolate Ganache: I was blown away by the avocado ice cream. Super rich and creamy, not overly sweet, literal perfection on a plate. I also really enjoyed the rich chocolate spread. A great way to end the meal. We all enjoyed our cocktails as well.Service was pretty good. Interior is stunning and elegant. A lovely place to get dressed up and to enjoy a food tasting experience. I can't wait to come back and sit at the Chef's counter. 5/5

The flavors are robust, novel and unexpected. We really enjoyed the scallop satay (the splash of lime was clutch) and the lobster noodles were out of this world. The lobster noodles were so good we ordered another one before dessert! The sauce is so buttery and peppery and the lobster chunks were HUGE (especially in our second one).Insider's Tip: The ideal meal includes the Lobster Noodle. We reserved and really enjoyed eating at the Chef's Counter - perfect for two!
Why only give it 3 stars? Well, while the food was new, unique and delicious, the price was not worth it! Our waitress recommended that EACH person order a small plate, a large plate and a side for it to be filling enough. That total costs at least $60 per person... So if you're looking to spend a lot of money for small portions... this would be the place to go.I have to admit the food tasted like things I've never had before. We ordered a bunch of small, large plates and a few cocktails (+tip costs over $500 for 6 people). The octopus small plate and the lobster noodle large plate stood out the most to me. The octopus dish was not chewy at all; it was soft and tender. The lobster noodles had a thick sauce that was unique and paired well with the lobster. I would also recommend their escargot because of its quality. We also ordered satays (3 skewers for $36...) and the lamb tasted the best. The crab fried rice was too salty. The crispy pork ribs were good but small portioned. The duck hash tasted like an average potato hash dish at a brunch place. The ceviche and the spring rolls were yummy but veeerrrry small portioned. Overall, the restaurant does a good job executing a blend of French and Indonesian flavors, but it was not worth the hefty price tag.

Literally sitting in cubes outside ACTUAL CUBES in the dirty streets of nyc but still did not let my tiny sweet little dachshund sit with us. She is a service animal and the staff was so rude about my disability. Terrible people, terrible restaurants. Be better Wayan. 0/10 do not recommend

I asked to take me a table then I will order first due to bf was parking a car. I seat then ordering drink first then wearing glasses waitress asked me to order food. i literally got a seat. I asked I need a min to order and bf coming very soon will order very soon. she got some attitude unpleasant face force me to order. And reminded me our table available only 2hrs. I wasnt planning to stay that long. were not a big party . I was not happy that her attitude, could ve saying more polite way. Anyway I just ordered and like in 3-5mins appetizer just served , was sitting by myself. Then bf came , had order more drinks and main menu rib served but was not able to cut there some born. I was looking for waitress , didnt show and asked other server to help to cut and never come back. Bf didnt even finish whiskey , the glasses girl tried to take the glass out as she said she thought it was finished. Very rush. We were not happy so bf asked to waitress that the service is not really happy abt all the facts. Then the glasses girl made some unpleasant face "oh sorry" didnt even try to make up or explain. It made us more upset. Then called manager explained the situation he was more polite to explain but when bf said is it all bcz AM I LATE ABT 10mins? Then manager said yeah... geez.. it's ridiculous bcz there is better way to ask polite way all the thing. The server has an attitude. I was earlier than the time and ordered food in advance and didnt even close reserved table-time. Well I wanted to talk more to the manager but didnt want to ruin my date. So we just left. To be honest food was just nothing special, not much tasty than looks. And poor service .We spent much money on that restaurant but just not really happy experience from there.I dont recommend this restaurant and i wont go back.

Wayan is super popular for a reason - their food is really good! Flavors are pretty strong but still perfectly balanced so it's very enjoyable.I forgot to take photos of the lobster noodles but I highly recommend it! Dessert is a must too!Price is on the higher side, but it's a nice date night or girls night out place for dinner and drinks!

I came to Wayan with two friends for brunch on Sunday at 11:30AM, we had a reservation and were seated right away now that the restaurant opens at this time. This restaurant is very spacious and super cute. The decor is very nice, classy, and pays subtle tributes to Southeast Asia. Service was really quick, we got our orders in for drinks and food within 15 minutes. Our server told us everything is meant to share but my table decided to get individual plates and then just split one between the three of us. We ordered: Burbur Ayam: both my friends got this dish and I tried a little bit of it! Very comforting and wholesome meal. The congee itself is warm and has a mild taste of ginger that just hit the spot on a rainy day. It came with a generous portion of chicken, cawke (fried dough), and soft boiled egg. Really liked it.Soto Ayam: this is the dish I ordered. The broth had an amazing flavor profile. Rich combination of turmeric and coconut milk which was very well balanced by the savory pieces of fried chicken and silky soft boiled egg. Has little vermicelli noodles that give it a nice texture as well. I found this dish very satisfying and generously sized. Was told it could be split between 2-3 people, but I felt like it was also a good individual dish if you are not splitting with anyone else. Crispy Pandan French Toast: 11/10. I finally understand why this toast is so hyped. Truly unique dish. The portion size was a lot larger than I expected and my table split it between the three of us for dessert. This toast is crispy on the outside but has a very moist and fluffy inside which reminded me a lot of tres leches cake as I believe the inside of it has some condensed milk in it. The sweet, warm bread is so good and is well complemented by the mild acidity of the grilled pineapple. The kaya jam is also super good and adds a subtle vanilla-like flavor to the dish. Definitely order it if you are here. Wayan has a very exceptional, non-traditional brunch with Indonesian dishes that will really shake up your usual Sunday morning brunch experience in the best of ways. I truly had a wonderful experience here: the ambiance is nice and lively, the food is great, and service is also good. Will definitely come back to try other dishes!

For two people we ordered: Escargot Rendang - 4 starsThe toasted brioche is perfection and the escargot is enjoyable, though the sauce a little on the sweeter end than your usual rendang.Lobster Noodles - 4.5 starsHighlight of the meal! Nasi Gila- 3.5 starsBeware of the spiciness. It overpowered the other flavors in this dish and it was a simple fried rice. Didn't taste much of the duck, bacon nor sausage. Corn Fritter - 4 Good as a side. Crunchy and corn is sweet. Krupuk - 4.5Fried shrimp cracker that was not on the menu but friend asked for that came with a side of sambal sauce. Tasty.Yuzu Frizz & Ube Ume cocktails - 3.5 Tasted good but too pricey for a small cocktail. Also there is barely an ube taste in the ube ume, all you taste is the ume. Presentation is very pretty though.Ambience & decor is 5 stars but the music is a little too loud and doesn't add to the ambience. All in all, not really Indonesian food but tasted good. Next time I would love to come back and try the sweet items in their menu!

I currently have 3 reviews waiting in drafts so I'm changing course going forward and keep it simple unless I'm overly excited with words. Here we go...Must have: Lobster noodles! Listen people the hype is real and I wish I had ordered one to go. If you're not a big eater it's big enough to share. The noodles melt in your mouth! The corn fritter is another must have too. We also had the spring rolls(a pass for me), octopus(it's a must for me because of the grill fennel), and my friend had some type of fish that I didn't taste but, she said it was very good too. Drinks were great and so was the service! We went for brunch and were the last to leave because the train messed me up on arrival and we weren't rushed at all. We received many thank you's as we left as well. Sorry I didn't get any food pics this time.

The shrimp burger was delicious, our favorite among the other dishes we ordered for brunch. The hamachi ceviche was full of different flavors and pretty as well top with edible flowers. The duck hash and escargot are both good. We already made another reservation for this Friday so we can try other dishes on the menu. Can't wait to go back!
First time when he place opened. The food is overall above average. Some dishes are a bit too strongly seasoned but that's probably because the cuisine is generally pungent. The atmosphere is welcoming yet not completely familiar; there are some nice touches that add to the cuisine. Worth a go if you are in the mood to switch up between the usual pasta, sushi, pizza, burger meals.

Definitely a nice spot to try!! My friend and I went here on a Wednesday after hearing many great things about the food! We made reservations and got seated right in front of the kitchen; they have a two hour seating limit and they were very strict on it because it was so crowded, even for the middle of the week. We ordered crab fried rice, chicken skewers, lobster noodles, corn fritters, ube pie and pandan coconut water. Everything was so packed full of flavor! Although the crab fried rice wasn't as drenched in sauce as the lobster noodles were, it was a good mix with the two together. The ube pie was amazing!! You definitely taste the ube and the pie crust was so good. Although it was a little on the pricey side, we loved trying all of the different dishes! :)

I love seeing Indonesian food represented in NYC and appreciate that the dishes are Indonesian with a twist. It has lived up to the hype of the many professional critics. The food across the board was excellent. They come in small portions that are meant to be enjoyed family tapas style. I would personally skip the satay here as it's just okay, and other parts of the menu shine more. The cocktails were A+. I came here with a friend who has had a ton of Indonesian food, and he was less impressed, but I had a great experience.The restaurant itself is stunning and located in a pretty trendy area of Soho.Also, Wayan is not to be confused with Wayla nearby.

I don't say this lightly-- this is my favorite restaurant in Manhattan (so far!)Definitely recommend eating family-style here so you can try a bit of each dish! For our group of 5, we ordered: Appetizers: - Octopus a la Plancha: the octopus was cooked perfectly-- very tender and easy to slice. The star of this dish ironically was the fennel on the side. It was very soft from being cooked down in the sauce and the texture was amazing. - Crispy Baby Squid: take your typical fried calamari, but add in an amazing herby, tomato sauce. Such a great appetizer! Mains: - Lobster Noodle: this was my personal favorite of the dishes. They are quite generous with the lobster portion in this dish. The flavor profile is somewhat reminiscent of indomie but more elevated. The sauce really stuck perfectly to the noodles and was extremely flavorful. - Crispy Pork Rib: a *very* well cooked rack of ribs. Easy to slice, with meat falling right off the bone. Theres a strong lemongrass flavor on the ribs that i was pleasantly surprised by. - Crab Fried Rice: this fried rice has a kick to it! Compared to the other dishes we ordered, this one didn't stand out to me, but on its own it still had a very unique flavor profile with thai chilis and black pepper. Side: - Nasi Goreng: we ordered this more as a main than a side since we were worried about how big the portions would be. This was a good dish, but i'd say if you're ordering a fried rice you could skip it. We didn't order drinks, and our total came out to be about $40 a person. Their drink menu looked great and I would definitely come back to try them! Caveat: they're pretty strict about the 2 hour table limit here, so try to get here on time and order food/drinks soon! They also only allow you to order food once, so keep that in mind while ordering!Overall: had a great experience here and I'd say the food is definitely worth the price point. I am looking forward to making another reservation here and trying the other things on their menu and drinks!
