We were there to celebrate a birthday and made a request for a table with a view, made reservations way in advance, but when the host sat us, and I inquired about it, he totally blew me off. As for our server, she was attentive and great.Food- somehow the medium rare is defined differently here compared to the other top notch steakhouses in south OC.Our 33oz ribeye came out blue rare and when asked to have it med rare, it came out charred with a burnt top where every time you took a bite, you ate a really hard burnt crisp. Not sure if a restaurant at this level thought this was acceptable for a steak?Drinks- martini was good but my glass was stained and crusty.Overall- I've been to Mastro's many times in Costa Mesa and a handful in Newport but tonight's experience was quite disappointing. Especially since we were there for a celebratory dinner.Honestly, the quality of the food and the fine diningexperience of this restaurant has diminished and is quite disappointing.
😍
My first time here was last week, Friday night.
Me and a few friends got there late so we sat at the bar and had the best bartender attend us. I believe his name was Esteban (Eazy-E). He made the greatest lemon drop martini I've ever had in my entire life. He made great conversation with us and I always appreciate that. Great customer service and very attentive. I'll definitely be back! Thanks Eazy-E!
Not quite up to par since COVID. Getting busy again, they still don't have the seats at the piano back yet. Miss those! Was seated at the bar and after my first drink. I could not for the life of me get the attention of the bartender to order food. Even the people across the bar were laughing, so we left and went for sushi.

We had a wonderful time at Mastros with great food and atmosphere. What left a sour taste in our mouths was the long straight black hair intertwined in my mom's bone-in steak. The manager came out and was apologetic but then insinuated that it belonged to one of the people at our table. The issue with that is none of us had hair that matched what was on the plate. My hair is dreadlocked, my moms hair is literally orange, and other members either had extremely short hair, light brown or were bald...We appreciate the steak comp, but to insinuate us of planting a hair was unprofessional. Try at your own risk, other food was delicious but be weary of the bone-in steak.

This has been a top choice for dinner for me for several years now. The seafood tower is a must, the wagu steak will melt in your mouth! Honestly think my leftovers are even better the next day somehow.

Overall the entrees and sides were good. Unfortunately The halibut I ordered was soo dry it was almost inedible. Disappointing for a high end seafood restaurant.

This was my first time eating at Mastros and I heard a lot
This was my first time eating at Mastros and I heard a lot of good things prior to my visit last night. I was very disappointed from the start. We arrived at 7:40 for our 7:45 reservation. We were immediately taken to the back to sit at our table. Turns out the table wasn't actually ready so we were taken back to the lobby. Finally after everyone who arrived after us was seated, we were finally seated at 8:30 (45 min after our reservation). No apologies, just "table is ready". The waiter was very friendly but the service was slow. You can imagine we were in a hurry since we sat down so late. The food arrives and my steak which was ordered medium rare wasn't even rare. It was raw. My wife's steak was ordered medium rare and it was well. By this time is was well past 11pm and we didn't want to wait for another steak to arrive. We get the bill and they were kind enough to comp the steak but overall it wasn't a good experience. Not sure we will make it back after this
😍
The service and food is consistently stellar.

The Ocean view doesn't hurt. Make sure to request a table near the window when you place your reservation. Don't forget to order the butter cake!! It's the best I've tried. David is a fantastic server and made our experience a wonderful one!

We have been dining at Ocean Club for many years, always have a great experience, it is one of our favorite places. We dined last night and will not be returning again. The whole experience, from start to finish, was disappointing. Slow, rude service, sub-par food, and most importantly, a true lack of hospitality. Saddened to see such a lack of care for the details that made this place special.
🙂
All I have to say is you get what you pay for.
Good experience and nice atmosphere. Only reason it's not 5 stars is because the pain my wallet feels is too much to go all the way. But honestly really good fancy dinner spot for a birthday or if your trying to impress your 20 year younger tinder date.
😍
We had an excellent experience recently last Sunday evening.
We had a reservation for 630pm. We arrived and noticed they had valet only for $8. This was fine with us so at least we didn't have to park so far. My first impression of host was that they were not too professional but at least they were having a good time and were pleasant. We were seated in a minute and taken to a table in the middle of the top area dining room. We were greeted by David, our server. He was spunky, funny, very helpful, and handsome. The whole night he made us laugh. He asked what we were celebrating and my fiancé told him we had just been engaged.I told him I had a mushroom allergy and he said, "I'll make sure to bring out extra mushrooms!" So funny!Since it was our first time, he explained the menuband that if we had any questions to let him know. My fiancé ordered the swordfish and I ordered the NY steak, we got asparagus and lobster mac and cheese for sides. Oh! For drinks he got a spicy margrita drink and I got the Thai time with rum. So good! My fiancé got a beer afterwards. Wow our food was so delicious. Yes, it is pricey but the quality I believe was amazing! My steak had so much flavor, I ordered medium well. And I also had some of the swordfish, wow! Highly recommend. They brought out our sides and served some on our plates. The Mac and cheese was TOO GOOD.my fiancé really loved our server David, he said he was the best waiter he'd ever had. He made our dinner so amazing, offered a shot of tequila with accompaniment and also brought us out a celebration dessert.Thank you David and Mastro's!

I made dinner reservations to surprise my husband for his 40th Birthday and brought our son. This was our 1st time here, checking in the hostesses were nice and we only had to wait a few mins for our 8:30pm reservation but we didn't mind. We were so excited to be here and it was a special celebration for my husband and the ambiance was relaxed and music was good. When we were seated we let our server know that this was our 1st time and asked what she recommends I believe her name was Ally (I hope I got that right) she was so sweet and made some awesome recommendations and they were perfect she was right on! All 3 of us had the Filet Mignon and sides of mashed potatoes and asparagus both of which were delicious and oh my gosh don't even get me started on the steak it was amazing!!! After dinner to make the night even better the Chef Brandon (same name as my husband) came out to meet us.... He too was turning 40 in a few months and they both joked that "there can only be one!" A Quote from Highlander....... It was simply a perfect evening and Birthday celebration!!!!!We can't wait to go back!!!!!!!!!!

Best steakhouse around my opinion.
The food is phenomenal., drinks are specialty, service is outstanding, the vibe is sexy and it's always a great place to people watch. Enough said...

My fiancée and I have long heard about the greatness of
My fiancée and I have long heard about the greatness of Mastro's and we finally had the opportunity to give it a try as we were celebrating our engagement. The restaurant is situated right off of Pacific Coast Highway near Crystal Cove and has a marvelous view of the ocean. They have valet parking at $8 per vehicle. I have to start off our experience by giving our waiter, David, a huge shout out. His service was just far and away beyond excellent. He made us feel like we've known him for years. He's very knowledgeable about the menu and gave us the rundown since it was our first time there. For drinks my fiancée ordered the Tiki Time, which she said was super delicious, and I got the Fire & Mango, which is a must have if you enjoy a good spicy cocktail. For our entrees it was a New York strip for my lady and the Blackened Swordfish for me. The steak was absolutely fantastic, perfectly cooked medium-well, and wonderfully juicy. My swordfish was just as good, if not better. I have honestly never had seafood that tasted as delicious as it did at Mastro's. Just flat out outstanding. For our side dishes we ordered the Lobster Mac n Cheese and sautéed asparagus. The sides are ordered separately but the portions are more than enough for 2 people. The mac n cheese was wonderful, with decent chunks of lobster throughout, and the asparagus was also very good.We were also very pleasantly surprised when David had a special dessert brought out for us to celebrate our engagement. It was such a thoughtful gesture and we were very grateful. To finish off, Mastro's did not disappoint in any way whatsoever. Everything from the food to the service was astounding and I very much cannot wait to return. I also want to again say thank you to our waiter, David. He really made our experience that much better and he deserves all the praise in the world for his service.Thank you Mastro's!

I never have experienced such a weird and out of the normal
I never have experienced such a weird and out of the normal service night before. We made reservations to take our friends here to try, as we speak so highly of this place. We typically make our reservations here 2-3 weeks in advance to secure a time that we like. After being seated, it took a long time to finally be acquainted by a server to take drinks. She disappeared for another 25 minutes before coming back to take appetizer orders. Drinks still never arrived. When they finally did, I requested once for a straw. We went around putting in our entree orders and then she waves her finger at me from across the table saying that I shouldn't ask more than once that she heard me the first time about the straw. Caught me off guard as I was in a conversation with my friend next to me, nothing about straws. It made me felt so confused and way do that from across the table, everyone looked confused. Our seafood tower came out, and we happily conversed and started eating. When they cleared our tower, I still was without a straw and actually nervous to ask her again because of how mean she came off at me. When everyone's steaks started coming out, she told me my Chilean sea bass was sold out for the night. I was so sad! but that was okay, I asked for a ribeye, cab if they had, otherwise a rib eye was fine. I also asked for medium rare. It was pretty well done. I only had one bite of it. Took my plate togo. We ordered three desserts ( butter cakes with whip) she forgot the whip. I also asked for no berries or compote as I am allergic. She forgot to tell them that too. OH and I told them it was celebrating my birthday (03/03), and she gave the cake to my friend. We definitely didn't want to bother her, she clearly had a hard day, but took it out on me. so we sang to our friend instead, laughed about it, tipped as normal (all staff still deserve pay), and called it a night.
😒
We love this restaurant and the view.

The food is always great, however, there's been a couple changes. I always expect a corkage fee when you bring in your own wine....however $50....that is quite a bit high. You all should know that is ridiculous...I still love the restaurant but that was disappointing....
🤮
Literally the absolute WORST service I have EVER received
Literally the absolute WORST service I have EVER received at any restaurant, let alone an upscale spot like this. Our waiter, Damon (?) was AWFUL. We kept waiting for our bread, a table that got sat well after us got theirs, so we asked again where ours was. He said "I don't know. I don't do the bread. That's so and so's job." WTF? He forgot my bernaise sauce and didn't bring it till I was 3/4 done with my steak. He forgot my friend's wine and then he said that the bar was super backed up so maybe he could just get a soda or an ice tea???? When I was ordering my meal, literally in the middle of me talking to him, he turned around and started talking to someone else. I was truly appalled at how horrendous our experience was. At the end he tried to compensate by giving us a free butter cake, LOL. I don't want or need free things. I want a good dining experience! The food was good but honestly our waiter was such a dick that it just ruined the entire experience. Incredibly disappointing.
🙂
First impression of this Mastros is WOW.
Love the location, view, speedy check in & the fact that they accommodated my husband who is on crutches. My husband had a whisky sour- which he wasn't impressed with & I had a lemon drop which was delish as usual! We ordered oysters & a crab cocktail (off menu, and we were told there were only 10 left for the day). We split a filet which was PERFECTLY cooked with truffle butter and Gorgonzola Mac as the main course. We ended with the famous butter cake which was phenomenal as always (we requested extra whipped cream and the waiter told us they only give whip upon request now) Overall the experience was good but not the best we've had at Mastros. When we checked in AND when we made the reservation we told them we were celebrating our anniversary and they didn't do anything (the Costa Mesa location would give you a cheesecake and at the very least write on the plate for special occasions). Staff was good BUT at the other OC location we were better attended to in every visit we've had.
😍

I came here with my friend and not only was the food
I came here with my friend and not only was the food fantastic but the service was exceptional. We got the bone marrow to share. My friend got the 16oz New York steak and I purchased the seared Chilean Sea Bass. My fish had a smooth and buttery feel and taste that was cooked to perfection. I also didn't feel like drinking so I purchase a virgin Mastros mojito, which I highly recommend. We both had an enjoyable time and we'll be back.
🤮
Reservations are difficult to get on a week or less notice
Reservations are difficult to get on a week or less notice so we opted to get in line for the doors to open and sit at the bar I liked the ambiance, but that's about it. As the place filled up the service became non existent. I ordered a bone in ribeye and it was more like a beef-fat flavored caramel. Seriously, it was unedible. I tried for 15 minutes the find a half inch square piece of meat that wasn't riddled with fat.Marbled? That's a laugh, this supposed prime cut of beef had ribbons of thick, chewy disgusting fat you could have used a chain saw and it still would have difficult to cut. The other dishes that our party of four had were mediocre at best. We will never go back. To this prentious over priced Ruth's Chris wannabe.

My husband and I came here in Valentine's Day and we had a lovely experience. The food was excellent! If you want the top freshest seafood, this is the place to go. Let me start off with saying Mastros is one of our favorite
Let me start off with saying Mastros is one of our favorite steakhouse chains but was very disappointed in this location, and that's sad because it has such a pretty view. We get there the front desk girls were not welcoming, very unfriendly. When we got seated our waiter came up to us introduced himself then asked if we wanted any drinks, I asked if they have moscato he answered yes but then I asked by bottle or can I get a glass? Because most steakhouses have certain wines by the bottles only and some you can get glass or bottle. His rude answer was " Well we have bottles and you get a glass from a bottle" . That's very rude trying to insinuate that I don't know how wine is normally sold at steakhouses. I ended up ordering a bottle anyways, he gave me a dirty glass, I thought it was the lighting at first but my friend compared her glass, and mine was just really dirty. I asked for new glass, I was given another dirty glass but at least not as dirty as first cup so I just gave in and used the glass. The service, It was like we were bothering the workers by asking them for service, it even took so long to get hot sauce for our oysters. I love scallops so I ordered their appetizer scallops and they were super fishy and rubbery. The Caesar salad was dry, we had to ask for a side of dressing. We finally got our main entrees, my steak was good but the sides were not. The mashed potatoes had no taste, and thats sad since I love mashed potatoes. The lobster Mac & cheese was cold, which was weird cause the skillet was really hot but the food was really cold, we told waiter he sent it back. The new Mac & cheese was the same thing Cold! We tried to eat it but it was not good cold. My husband loves mastros and wanted me to order him food to take home to him since I was at dinner with friends, but I called him and let him know that I would not spend more money then I already did on food that was not up to the usual mastros standard.

I wanted to take the time to explain my experience here at
I wanted to take the time to explain my experience here at Mastro's Ocean club. Specifically I would like to share my experience dealing with the assistant general manager, Kathy. We attended dinner at this location sometime ago and ordered a couple of steaks and a couple of side items. Immediately after both of us didn't feel well and we contacted the restaurant and shared this with them. The restaurant promise to reach out to us and make this right. However they never did reach out to us, instead I had to make over 10 different phone calls to get in contact with a manager once again and ask them what may have happened.Rather than acknowledging the hoard quality of their food on that particular night, the manager simply explained to me that you cannot get ill after you eat so quickly. I guess it's because managers at Mastro's also attend medical school and they get a briefing of foodborne illnesses upon hire. Simply, the manager refused to acknowledge the situation and kept repeating the line " i'm sorry that you did not take the quality of our food to your liking that night". Instead of claiming the responsibility for possibly creating a negative experience the manager simply made it very clear that this is on me personally. What really bothered me about Kathy, is that she was extremely rude with me and she simply said to me what is it that you want? Do you want money? To me that is a very insulting question to ask of a customer at a fine dining establishment, yet alone anywhere else. Kathy was just absolutely refusing to attempt to deliver a better experience next time and really made it seem as if I am making this up.I am extremely disappointed with my experience here at Mastro's and the way that the customer service is handled by Mastro's restaurants. Hopefully somebody from corporate is able to hear of this experience and also discipline Kathy to properly speak with customers. If you would like a fine dining experience I highly suggest looking for another restaurant that would at least acknowledge their mistakes and treat the customer with respect. It's truly disappointing that somebody working at a steakhouse has the audacity to be so rude to customers.

My first time in such an expensive fancy restaurant as an
My first time in such an expensive fancy restaurant as an anniversary celebration. Ordered the Chilean Sea Bass, Bone in Ribeye 22oz, Lobster bisque, house salad, mash potatoes, brussel sprouts and the warm butter cake for dessert. Massive food for 2 people but everything is delicious. The sea bass is so fresh that just even only seared with sea salt and pepper, you can taste the freshness of the fishThe ribeye is so tender and juicy that even we took the leftovers home, it's tasted still good the next day after heating up. Lobster bisque is so creamy with chunks of lobster. Definitely a popular dishThe house salad is a must try if you like blue cheese and Cobb salad. The dressing and all the toppings matched perfectlySide dishes are big portion and mash potatoes and brussel sprouts are deliciousFinally the warm butter cake completed the nightWhat an excellent and unforgettable dinner and experience. The service is Epic as wellWill definitely come again with family members
🤮
The hostess group have a collective IQ of 1.
They are extremely unhappy with their jobs and do not want to help anyone. Made reservations for a birthday a month in advance and they gave us a table outside in the freezing cold, in the corner by the makeshift garden. You don't come to a place like this for this kind of treatment or service. Very disappointed. They had no explanation why they did this or why this table even exists. Who sits patrons next to gas tanks. Shameful.
😍
My husband and I have been coming here for the last 3 years
My husband and I have been coming here for the last 3 years when we visit Newport Coast and we were so impressed on this visit. They honored our request of seating, the waiter was extremely knowledgeable of the menu and was very professional and friendly. The food was fantastic. The filet mignon was probably the best my husband had and I had the tomahawk steak and it was supreme. We loved the big eye tuna appetizer and cocktails were just right. At the end, because of the previous experience with a delay in our food, they compensated part of our check. What was cool is that they remembered from a year before. We couldn't believe it. Wish more restaurants have this kind of class and service!
😍
