Visited here for the third or fourth time and, once again, absolutely loved the Mastro's experience. We had a table in the outside awning overlooking the ocean. Service quality was spectacular as was all the food.
Two words.
Butter cake. Oh, and filet mignon. We love this place. Love the location and views too.
Impeccable service, food , and ambience.
This was my wife and I first time dining at Mastro' Ocean club. We were not disappointed. Our food was delicious, our server Kim phenomenal service and very helpful picking our entrees . We plan to go back with friends soon. The prices are competitive with other comparable restaurants but well worth the extra money. Thank you for a wonderful evening.

I had the best night at Mastro's in Newport Beach yesterday with my husband. The team there really went above and beyond for us. We had made a reservation at the Malibu location. I had no idea when I asked Siri for "directions to Malibu Ocean Club in Malibu" that it would direct us to the Newport location. What a happy accident it was!!! My husband has been away as he is in the armed forces. It was his first day back and I wanted to make the night special. I was devastated I directed us to the wrong location. But when we checked in with the front hostess, he was more than understanding, accommodating and got us a table with no issue. We hung out at the bar until our table was ready (no more than 10 minutes). Esteban was our bartender and he makes the BEST drinks! But it was Ally, our server, that truly made our night special. She is the reason for this review. Honestly the best SERVICE we have EVER received. She knows the menu inside and out. Her recommendations were delectable. She checked on us often, refilled our water before we even noticed we needed it, she even remembered our names and addressed us by name each time she came to our table. She really made our night and I couldn't be more thankful for the service she provided to us. Thank you soooo very much Ally! She is such a gem The Newport location is now our favorite location! We will definitely be returning. The restaurant has a beautiful indoor/outdoor ambiance. We were so happy to have ended up in the wrong location. What a night to remember.

As the name suggests, Mastro's Ocean Club has an air of exclusivity through and through. You'll see no shortage of the crème de la crème of Newport Beach arriving in regal processions, their extravagant vehicles glistening under the valet's careful watch, their haute couture making lesser mortals feel positively provincial. The environment is equally grand, evoking the charm of a Spanish villa with an open courtyard at its heart. The servers, smartly dressed in white jackets and bowties, are poised to treat you like royalty--unless, of course, they suspect you of being a plebeian interloper. In that case, prepare for an evening of utter supercilious disdain, as a significant number of reviews allege. Upon being seated, you'll likely be offered a cocktail, and here, you can hardly go wrong. The bar is a small bright spot of competence in a desert of pretension. The fresh seafood towers and raw-bar style appetizers are excellent, as they should be. Twice now, I've indulged in these oceanic delights, only to watch the meal derail spectacularly with the arrival of the hot food. The seasoning is heavy-handed and cloying, an assault on the taste buds that leaves no quarter. The Lobster Bisque, while rich and creamy, was so thick and over-seasoned it felt like eating a bowl of sauce américaine. Similarly, the sautéed sea scallops were drowning in butter, obliterating any trace of their delicate flavor. Seafood is a delicate matter, requiring finesse and care to preserve its natural flavor and texture. This is not a place for heavy-handed techniques better suited to a steakhouse. Alas, Mastro's heritage seems to drag it down, applying a meat-cuisine approach to seafood with predictably disastrous results. So, when it comes to Mastro's Ocean Club, come for the raw bar and cocktails, but skip the rest. Rating: 3 out of 5 stars--As Groucho Marx famously said, "I don't want to belong to any club that would accept me as one of its members." At Mastro's Ocean Club, you might find yourself wishing you'd taken his advice. Lucien Bramard.
Mastro's experience was disappointing.
Racial/status profiling is real at this place. Our server Stephanie used a sarcastic tone throughout our entire time there. As she was taking my parents order and I was helping translate from Spanish to English, so that she could get the order correctly, she looked away in an annoyed manner completely ignoring us or making eye contact. My dad asked for asparagus and she laughed and said, but we already have a side of asparagus for the table. I'm sorry, but if someone asks for something, you simply write it down without making your suggestions. As if we couldn't afford it. Also, the side of asparagus was definitely not enough for everyone. We were a party of 6 and the side had about 7 asparagus. We waited over an hour at our table for just a meh meal. Mashed potatoes have got to be straight out of a box. Grainy in texture! I also asked Stephanie for a side of Brussels sprouts and got broccolini instead. Not sure if that was on purpose, or could be human error. I did not bring it to her attention because at that point it was pointless. As we got closer to finishing our meals Stephanie's demeanor changed and she started being "nicer." And when we got the check she kindly reminded us that gratuity was not included. We are decent people and still left a tip for her even though she was demeaning the whole time we were there. If you are not White in a flashy car wearing designer clothes, you're better off taking your money elsewhere. We've dined at other high-end restaurants before and have been treated with respect regardless of status. Money does not buy class nor manners at this place. The manager needs to do better at training servers about diversity. Don't assume people can't afford to dine just because they don't look like you. Remember who's making the food in the back and cleaning your tables. It's a team effort! It's of bad taste to look down on people and treat them like less-than.

We went to Mastro's Ocean Club on 6/22 for a company event and we had an amazing time. The food was delicious and the drinks were superb! I had the bone-in ribeye, lobster bisque and warm butter cake. For the drinks, my favorite was the dreamberry, but the lemondrop and lavender martini were also very good. Service was excellent and I need to give a shoutout to Odie. Odie was very attentive and always made sure we were taken care of. Odie was there for our follow up drinks and packed our leftovers. She was quick and very friendly. We enjoyed the night and we'll definitely be back!

A few days later, someone did reach out to me, said they would like to make it right and invited us to dine with them again and offered to send me a gift card. I never received that gift card. So much for making it right. :(

Stopped by here late night for a Manhattan and dessert.
Scored seats at the bar which is great and close to the piano bar with live performances. The Maestros Manhattan is a signature drink. I've had it at multiple locations and it's consistently good. It's a generous portion, served with a shaker which has enough for two drinks. It's generally shaken table side so even if you're not sitting at the bar it's a great choice. For dessert we ordered the butter cake which is also a signature option. Massive scoop of vanilla ice cream served over a warm butter cake. Great for sharing.

We went here as recommended by (2) sales people over at South Coast Plaza for dessert. The Butter cake was delicious and it’s huge. You can share it with 2 people for sure maybe even three. We would come back for it. The restaurant was beautiful on the inside. We ordered to go so I can’t speak on there meals.
Nah - better places in Newport
715 reservation - seated at 745 on an outdoor patio in the rain and cold. Heaters helped but the setting was poor and the food basically took an hour for drinks and the first appetizer (which sat for a while - the salad was soggy by the time it arrived. As you can imagine - at this point the remainder of the food was ok at best but not worth the wait or the price. Choose something different - don’t get sucked into the hype if you’re in Newport.

We really enjoyed our time here. The service was phenomenal. They were so attentive and really on it. The food was so delicious. We had a seafood tower, lobster bisque, bone-in ribeye steak, and butter cake. I really liked the ambiance of this restaurant and plan to return.

He ordered a seafood tower with oysters, lobsters, jumbo shrimps and crab meat that came in a smoky ice for our appetizer. OMG, that was very impressive and superb!!! Then we both have filet mignon and shared a lobster mashed potato for our side. The service was on point! There's always someone waiting on us and just very classy! To top it off, our waiter gave me a butter cake for my birthday. Yummy! The whole place is fabulous! The view of the ocean from our table was incredible! After dinner, we went to the bar and listened to their live music and they surprised us by singing my Mom's song "Fly me to the Moon". Made us teary as my Mom just passed 2 months ago and she made us both feel she was there celebrating my birthday with us. Loved the vibe! It was such an epic night and a very unforgettable birthday dinner! Highly recommend

I got steak and asked for medium, she said they typically prepare medium rare but comes out on a hot plate and may continue cooking, I said that's perfect. It came out with no pink inside and I cut into it quickly, so it didn't sit cooking. Medium is usually pink inside. One steak was the wrong onebut they corrected it and brought out another, also gave a free dessert bc of it. The four stars is because they tried to make it right, otherwise would definitely do less. I didn't complain about my overdone steak because it was a business dinner but probably would have otherwise. Maybe I need to give it another try, but didn't live up to the hype for me.

From Wagyu to Filet to seafood tower. We came here tonight to just relax and eat some bar snacks like creme brûlée, latte, and cocktails. All were good. Service - as best as a bar service could be Ambiance - on a Friday night, very busy in the bar area with some reserved seats as well as 2 bar areas. There is also seating for dining. All gets packed as a novel date night fancy dining and bar. Love love love it! Verdict - all is good is this place. No real complaints. Pricewise, a little on the higher side, but of course you better know that. This is Newport and this is Mastros. Valet parking and service oriented. All were as expected.

Ordered A5 Japanese Wagyu 16oz for the family to share, sea bass, hamachi and crab cake for appetizers, and other. Food was good. I ordered Elder & Wiser cocktail that the waitress brought out in a cocktail shaker and poured it for me at the table and has the smoke effect with dry ice. When she was pouting the drink for me, the shaker came apart and ended up splashing it all over me, so that was the low light of the dinner. She apologized and brought me a new one but charged me for two cocktails...
My wife and I have been coming here for years.
Not sure what has happened to hospitality or common manners, nonetheless... Kayla, who works phones and front desk should not be who represents or is front of the house for this Mastro's location. I spoke with Kayla on the phone and dealt with her a few times in person and I'm not sure how they still have her working here. Shame on you Kayla

Valentine's date last Sunday was awesome BF uber surprised me by taking me out to Mastro's, which I low key always wanted to try but never been to... and it actually lived up to all the things people have told me. Wonderful service, food, live music - up there on my list with Summit House. Alicia was our server and she was such a joy. We ordered the 22 ounce ribeye, lobster bisque, crab cakes and to drink, 2 cocktails, me with a mojito and him with something I forget with I think whiskey? Enjoyed our meal and would love to come back on a night where we can sit in the booths by the piano and listen to live music by the bar downstairs over dinner and drinks

The Martinis are amazing, the Food is wonderful and the service is great! Mastros always provides a great experience. We really like the atmosphere and we sat at the bar.

We had an amazing birthday dinner here tonight! Our server, Betsy, and her table side partner Edwin were both absolutely perfect! From the food to the service to the live background music, the night couldn’t have been better!! And when you think you’re full and can’t eat anymore, you must still have their signature butter cake. You’ll find room for it.

Wonderful! My parents are visiting and we have wanted to go to Nobu Malibu for years. I tried getting a reservation myself but it was next to impossible. So glad I was able to buy a reservation on appointment trader for a decent price!

I was veeeeeerry skeptical that this would work, particularly at a restaurant as hard to get into as Nobu Malibu, and it was perfect! We had lunch outside on the patio and it was fabulous!

Ok at this point I've attended a reservation purchased on AT by a friend and sold a reservation personally. Both worked pretty smoothly, nothing sketchy about it. A few areas for improvement including a way to more directly communicate between buyers and sellers, but the app always seems to be in development. AT customer support is really(!) responsive and helpful too if you have questions!

As a seller, I like the fact i have the ability now to transfer money out of my AT account and into a bank account. Makes getting the money much easier then the process before.

It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!

Does anyone know how AT plans to handle cases where a seller is quitting the platform but has a sell through rate <25%? The error message I got said to fill more bids or find other ways to increase the rate.
Is AT really going to block sellers from withdrawing their money? Especially revenue made before the sell through rate was introduced??

Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.

to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.

Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.

Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
