Ad Hoc Yountville Reviews from The Last Year
I was excited to try this restaurant .
We could not get in last year. The service was great and the portions were large. We had leftovers. The duck supplement was excellent . The issue I had was that Thomas Keller should know better, beef stroganoff in the middle of July in 102 degree heat, come on!! The pasta was freshly made but it's not like we could order anything else . Beef Stroganoff is a fall/ winter dish, it was way too heavy. The brownies were excellent.
We ordered a drink at the bar and a bucket of fried chicken.
We really appreciated ordering specific pieces and our bartender was quite helpful! The bar area was long and the dining area looked lovely. It made us wish we had made dinner reservations. We devoured that chicken and would definitely return.
The fried chicken on a Sunday night is perfection! Ad Hoc
The fried chicken on a Sunday night is perfection! Ad Hoc is low key high-end, and that's right up my alley! Fried chicken paired with champagne... I don't know what else could be better.
After a year, we decided to give Ad Hoc another try.
While the service was great, my husband and I were quite disappointed with our overall dining experience. The flank steak, unfortunately, was unexpectedly tough, cold and virtually inedible. We ate one slice each and left the rest of it on our plate. We were quite shocked as the restaurant has great reviews and was full. However, we looked at the reviews of the steak after finishing our meal and saw we were not the first to experience this. The rigatoni it was served with was also cold and quite flavorless. While we appreciate the quality of service provided, nothing from this meal gave us a reason to go back or to recommend this restaurant.
My friends and I visited this place for my birthday.
We made reservations ahead of time although we noticed some folks were walking in & getting seated. Great ambience and great location. Hostess was friendly and servers were professional and knowledgeable. Our group shared the family size options of waffles, delicious crispy chicken, ambrosia salad and salmon cakes. The cocktails were refreshing. Overall great experience and will be returning.
Always a great experience here.
The menu is changing daily but so fresh and full of great flavors. Staff are friendly & helpful as well. Love coming here whenever I come to Napa area
Food - the food was presented nicely.
The first course was warm potato salad. It had nice flavors added to it. All in all it was the best course. The second course was barbecue chicken. Our plates were actually too small for the size of the chicken so it was difficult to eat. The chicken was tender and a good quality. Flavor was good. The side dish was collard greens and we felt it did not complement the chicken. The third dish was the cheese and although it was a nice presentation the cheese was not tasty and the jelly over powered it. The last course was a sheet dessert and it was way too sweet. It was something served in a school cafeteria. I could not tell you what it was because we could not eat it. More appropriate for a preschool platelet. We left it. Service - the service was stellar. Ambiance - at first blush you hear a nice buzz when you enter the place and are made to believe that all is well because you read the reviews. But the truth- this place is for rich people who want to behave badly. Some people were talking so loudly they needed a private room and or a video on how to behave in a public restaurant. I felt like I was in a horror movie. Save your money and eat someplace else.
Was delicious! Servers were great and attentive.
It was quaint with open eating areas so loud. We didn't have any drinks from the bar but paired the wines with our meals. Wines were ok, we could have done without them as they added nothing to the meal, the pairings didn't conflict with the courses but just didn't elevate the meal. The wines weren't promoted or provided a spotlight.
Took my mom here for her birthday lunch.
Our table outside was lovely and the servers were spot-on. The menu was really disappointing however. Maybe because it was Sunday but it seemed like the menu was written to clear out all the old bread they had hanging around. The arugula, peach and strawberry salad, which was lovely, had chewy croutons. Not sure why they weren't crisp. It also had a maple vinaigrette, which was fine as a stand-alone, but considering the next course, was too much repetition. The main was their delicious fried chicken. Best I've had in ages and super generous serving. It was served with fried french toast sticks using the same hearty bread as the croutons, and served with maple syrup. They were fried very crunchy, and along with the fried chicken, was fried overload and really heavy. So there's a bread and maple theme that was getting boring. For dessert it was a lemon and blueberry bread pudding, using the same hearty bread. The lemon sauce was delicious but the bread pudding was just not what anyone wanted to eat at this point and so we only picked at it. So much potential but ruined by a poorly planned menu. We felt a little gypped.
Nice small place with delicious food.
It was busy when we came in, lucky to get a chair up in the counter.
Not impressed.
The maitre d was polished, welcoming and friendly. Everything else was just okay. The food was unimaginative, and served family style. Basically there was high quantity instead of high quality. The gentleman who served us our entree was grumpy. He mumbled the description of the dish, and when we asked a question he was short with us. Most of the waitstaff looked bored. Honestly, the service was no different than you'd expect from a Cracker Barrel. We won't return.
No famous fried chicken served. Eat NY strip instead.
On a Memorial Day weekend, they only served pre fix dinner with the NY strip steak as main. We wanted to try out their famous fried chicken, but they didn’t make it available. I felt they are lazy to force down uninteresting NY strip steak course when people come here for fried chicken.
Not the best TK restaurant: loud, long, and not best value.
This was fine: we did it and we won't be back, though we will continue to cook from their cookbook because the food was delicious. Pros: - staff were attentive - food was good - standard menu items had appropriate portions for table Cons: - dinner for 4 people took over 2.5 hours. For what this place is, that's a LONG time. They could have shortened time between each course by 5 minutes and that would have been more enjoyable. - the atmosphere was incredibly loud: it was almost impossible to hear what the couple across the table were saying to us. - the add-ons to the menu were not portioned properly. Most tables had even numbered guests so it would follow that something like ricotta gnocchis would be provided in even numbers: but they weren't. We were told it would be enough for the table but, for a 4 top, we were given 3 gnocchis and left to split them up. They could have offered a 4th for an extra amount or, more reasonably, provided 4 in the first place. It was an odd decision. - dessert was huge. It was a big meal and 1/2 of what was offered would have been more sufficient. - while it was all good, we felt we didn't get the same value here as we have at other TK places like Bouchon.
Hmmmm
Ad Hoc is a huge draw due to the famous owner, Thomas Keller. It’s hard to rate this restaurant since I’ve experienced The French Laundry, one of his other restaurants. Our service was fabulous. For the area, 4 courses of great food for $75 ( cannot recall the exact fixed price) is an amazing deal!!!!!!!! I’ve been 3 times to Ad Hoc, so love it enough to repeat my experience. However, the main course has continued to be very average. The salad, sides, and dessert ( gluten free) were delicious. The main was very average. Still, we come to Napa with out-of-town guests and everyone wants to dine at a Thomas Keller restaurant so will be back!
Management MIA
Fixed menu. Nice salad. Good sides, but not hot. Tough, improperly cooked short ribs. Good service from waiter. No response from management when issue brought to their attention.

The wife and I made a reservation, came inside to get immediately seated near the window. The staff were wonderful and very welcoming. It was pretty cold inside so make sure you bring a jacket. The menu was their famous fried chicken as the entree and then we added the crab sandwich. It's a set menu for the day listed in black text then you can do add ons with the price in red text. It's served as family style, each person pays a set price, the portions are large and can accommodate the bigger stomach folks. The iceberg lettuce with green goddess sauce was surprisingly flavor packed. The celery was pickled, it added a nice acidic contrast. Another favorite was the mashed potatoes, each bite had a delicious umami flavor with possibly a punch of tang from a lemon? I could not tell, nor could I stop eating it. The fried chicken was crunchy ~ almost like a double fry technique. The inside was juicy and savory. I ate 2 pieces before I tapped out because I was getting full and it was overwhelming to eat that much crunch. We ended with the olive oil cake that was good but I was already full to even eat my own slice. The whole experience was top notch, from the food to the staff, we enjoyed everything ad hoc had to offer!

The fried chicken is good here but does not live up to the hype. We came for the 3-course brunch, which included a spinach salad (this was meh), corned beef hash (the meat was pretty tender but a bit much for me), and monkey bread (my sister loved but I wasn't a fan). Obviously, we also had to get the fried chicken add-on. The breading is pretty thick - thicker than I usual expect - but still pretty good and the two pieces I had were nice and juicy. Sadly the piece my sister got was dry white meat. Although the service was friendly, I wasn't super wow'd by the food.
I would give this 3 stars but for the price I think it's
I would give this 3 stars but for the price I think it's not worth it - so I am giving 2 stars. We visited on March 16 and the menu was: salad, steak, and panna cotta for dessert. I also got the add-on for chicken and potato chips with caviar. For my young daughter we got the fruit platter and sorbet. The service was very good; they were friendly and considerate. The ambiance was average - nothing bad about it. I especially liked the marinated kumquats on the fruit platter. The broccoli was really well balanced. I was disappointed with the steak. It was chewy and I felt that it was a cheap cut of meat. Including my daughter, there were 4 of us, but she didn't eat from the menu. I paid 430$ for everything (after 18% tip). My two cents is that this wasn't worth what I paid. The steak was a main component and it failed to deliver.
This comment is strictly for their chicken and service.
First noting...anyone trying to grab a bucket of chicken to go or dine-in for their chicken, it's only available for lunch, not dinner. If you also plan to order in their back outdoor seating area, it is only open from May to August (shared by the host of the restaurant) but anyone is welcomed to sit in their outdoor area throughout the whole year. Great for those who have dogs (they also have a designated patio area for dine-in customers). Now for the chicken. I'm torn here and rate it a 3.5. I will say the crunchiness of the fried chicken and the juiciness of the meat were done perfectly and is a 5/5 in my books. The reason why I rated it a 3.5 was the taste. I felt even though the chicken was cooked perfectly, the flavor was lacking. This is where I was disappointed. (FYI....Bucket of 6 pieces costs about $45) For service, 5/5. The hostess was very helpful and accommodated our requests for our to go order.
Visiting from Florida and this was definitely the best
Visiting from Florida and this was definitely the best restaurant we've eaten at on our vacation. From the service, food and ambiance this is a 5 star restaurant!!!! We ate the pork, salmon, asparagus and mash potatoes all extremely good! I even loved the salad that started us off. The lemon bar for dessert was good but not great. If you're in the area this is a must!!!! I wish we could have tried the fried chicken that was available at different times. The servers were all very good constantly filling our water cup and asking if we needed anything.
We absolutely love their fried chicken.
That's everyone in the fam, including our two kids (who have wildly different appetites and are very picky eaters normally) and also our Bernadoodle who starts drooling when we approach the restaurant. During the week the quality can vary - wish they did a better job of being consistent in quality. But holidays and weekends have always been fantastic here!
Excellent.
Everything. The service, the informal but classy ambiance, and, of course, the food. See captions for more details, and I hate to tell you that the salad was the best part, but it really, really was. I could have eaten a whole meal of the caviar, salad, and fish and still loved every minute of it.

Hands down the best fried chicken I've ever tasted! The service was friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive and the restaurant is clean and modern with a homey vibe. We loved everything we tried and enjoyed the family style vibe but I will dream about this fried chicken for years to come.
We eat there on a Saturday.
Amazing salad and salmon which was the alternative offer in place of the steak. The salmon was cooked perfectly grilled on the outside, moist inside. Service was very pleasant. The mash potato light and buttery, the vegetable grilled, tasty and great with the salmon and steak my companion had. The only sour note was the desert - peanut butter blondies which did not complement the rest of menu, hard texture and not to my taste. Unfortunate to end the meal that way. Disappointed. Pricey - I may have felt differently if 30% of the meal (desert) matched the rest. Drop the desert course if it cannot match the quality and value of your food. It clashes.

Called numerous and emailed numerous times to ask about planning a dinner for 18. They never got back to me. Guess that's an indication of their service.
Ad hoc
Treat yourself to a Thomas Keller family style dinner, you won’t be disappointed. I had the chicken Parmesan and hope to have fried chicken next time
Good, could’ve been great.
High expectations, that feel below the potential. We ordered the “menu” for tonight., salad (excellent) pinto beans (very good) pork (also very good)… we also added the Nashville hot chicken.. fantastic, and the lobster Mac and cheese.. again very nice! It was soooo much food, and it all came at once.. (I questioned everything coming at the same time and was told , we love you. It was overwhelming! Two of us and enough food for 2x! It would have been nice to have had some guidance on over ordering.., but no such a thing. And the wine paring. $50 a person, Chardonnay, Merlot, and a Sauternes… average at best… Could have easily been a fantastic experience with some appropriate guidance from a waiter that had our best intentions at heart.
Sad Meal at Ad Hoc
We have visited Ad Hoc in the past and loved it, and we looked forward to another fantastic meal last night. However—it was really, really disappointing, as all the diners sitting around us agreed. Swedish meatballs in a rich, overly salted sauce on overcooked noodles, accompanied by green beans(tasty) and a dish of creamy, cheesy potatoes. The finale was an ice cream sundae. What a carb and fat load! Potatoes and noodles, two creamy sauces and sundaes covered in chocolate and whipped cream?! One neighbor couldn’t her meal because of the salt. So—usually a great place, a huge disappointment last night.
Nostalgic Comfort Food
If you want to try a taste of comfort food coupled by recipes created by THE Thomas Keller I suggest you stop in here. We had the pleasure of dining here on a night they were serving the acclaimed chefs buttermilk fried chicken. A recommendation given to us by Cam over at Finesse. Cam Im sorry if i did not spell your name correctly. His recommendation did NOT disappoint. He was also extremely kind and knowledgeable about Chef Kellers restaurants. The drinks are amazing and the salad we started with had a dressing I could drink on its own haha. I had to invest in the Ad Hoc cookbook after this dining experience so I can try to recreate this amazing fried chicken at home. Really would love to return soon and try everything they offer here.
Ad Hoc is amazing!
We had been wanting to experience one of the Thomas Keller restaurants for quite some time now, and during our most recent trip to Napa, we decided to give Ad Hoc a try because it looked much more of a casual environment versus the other outlets with still an amazing looking food quality. We made reservation for Ad Hoc a few weeks in advance through Tock for dinner and arrived promptly at our dinner time. There's plenty of parking on the street for free and I think they may also have a private parking lot as well. We entered and were warmly greeted by the host and were promptly brought to our table and our server came by a few minutes later to introduce himself. We brought a bottle of wine as well and I think it was a $20 corkage fee. For dinner, there is a 4 course menu for $64 a person and they also have wine pairings for $55/person, and they have a full bar and wine list as well. For this particular evening, they started us with a delicious and fresh mixed greens and fruit salad which was absolutely amazing and a plenty big portion for the two of us to share. For the next course, we had Mediterranean Chicken Thighs and couscous with a yogurt sauce. For the third course we had a cheese board, and to close the meal we have a Vanilla Panna Cotta. All food was absolutely amazing and fresh, and a great quality. All employees were very well trained and explained each dish in full detail, including the food runners. It was truly an amazing dining experience and we look forward to returning during our next trip to Napa!
Southern food done by Thomas Keller
Can’t get into the French Laundry? Like Southern food and a surprise? Try this place ~$50 per person 4-course Southern delight! Homemade ice cream sundaes on Sunday, We had root beer floats from heaven on this particular night. Wonderful staff & atmosphere-inside a bit loud, we opted to eat outside. Fantastic wine pairing options too. Come hungry portions are generous. Menu rotates frequently…
Outstanding informal delight
The food is exceptional. The menu is fixed but the quality and balance is excellent. The ingredients include locally sourced produce. We added wine pairings as well. There is plenty of food, repeat, generous portions. The atmosphere is informal but upscale. Staff are well trained. There are add ons to the menu but you have so much food as it is, they are really for the table to taste. Extensive wine list and cocktails. You can check the menu daily online as it changes.

Great Service - amazing dinner!!
Read about the site in NYT and bought a reservation at Mother Wolf in LA 2 days later. Worked great and the food was amazing!!!
Worked perfectly!
Got the reservation (that I couldn't get anywhere else) and was able to entertain a group of friends at the infamous Bern's Steakhouse.
Got into Nobu Malibu
Wonderful! My parents are visiting and we have wanted to go to Nobu Malibu for years. I tried getting a reservation myself but it was next to impossible. So glad I was able to buy a reservation on appointment trader for a decent price!
Very easy
Was very hesitant going into this experience but am glad to say that it worked out very well ! will definitely use appointment trader in the future
Fabulous Lunch
I was veeeeeerry skeptical that this would work, particularly at a restaurant as hard to get into as Nobu Malibu, and it was perfect! We had lunch outside on the patio and it was fabulous!
Great reviewer team
Just wanted to take a second to shout out the reviewer team. Even though they probably review hundreds of listings and bids a day, they still take the time to leave great comments and respond relatively quickly. Thanks!
Incredible
I got a reservation to Don Angie, which I've been trying to book for weeks! I am very happy with this service.
Best platform out there!
Super simple, easy, and fast to secure reservations for hard-to-get restaurants and locations!
This app is life changing
This app has opened my world up to so many wonderful new experiences I would never have the chance to have without access to this awesome app! 10/10!

This is a crazy holiday season in NYC and I was very pleasantly surprised to see that AppointmentTrader works! Will be using again!

Worked well, got me into a restaurant with no availability
I was skeptical, and I still don't really know how they managed to find this hard-to-find reservation, but it was a win-win from my point of view, and I'll use this service again.
Last minute reservation for Delilah Las Vegas
Got a last minute reservation, dinner for 2 at Delilah Las Vegas: super impressed! The process was simple, transaction seamless. We had an amazing time! Couldn’t be happier! 😍
It works!
Ok at this point I've attended a reservation purchased on AT by a friend and sold a reservation personally. Both worked pretty smoothly, nothing sketchy about it. A few areas for improvement including a way to more directly communicate between buyers and sellers, but the app always seems to be in development. AT customer support is really(!) responsive and helpful too if you have questions!
Money transfer
As a seller, I like the fact i have the ability now to transfer money out of my AT account and into a bank account. Makes getting the money much easier then the process before.
Love this app
Got to go to places otherwise unreachable
Easy Access
Very easy to get into one of the hardest restaurants to reserve in New York.
Payouts Blocked Because of Sell Through Rate
Does anyone know how AT plans to handle cases where a seller is quitting the platform but has a sell through rate <25%? The error message I got said to fill more bids or find other ways to increase the rate.
Is AT really going to block sellers from withdrawing their money? Especially revenue made before the sell through rate was introduced??
Tune into NBC News - Top Story Tonight 7:40p ET
Let’s go. Get more people placing bids!
I will give you 50% of ALL of my PROFITS if you teach me how to make profits?
LOL. Thank you The New Yorker.
Appointment
Transferring reservations is not supported in AT. Why not just use the name in the AT screenshot?
Buyers interested in Bern's Steakhouse: PLEASE READ
Same goes for 4 Charles and I Sodi
Prepaid Reservation Fee
Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
Congrats on 3 mil
🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🧨🧨🧨 now on to 30 mill!
Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it?
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid?
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted.
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from?
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered?
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
