PRESS Restaurant St. Helena Reviews from The Last Year
I went here on a Friday evening with my girls.
All of us had a magnificent time here. The food was just excellently cooked and definitely worth the price. The staff was very accommodating and attentive. The ambiance is relaxing and nice.
Press has been on my list for a while.
So for this wine trip, I decided to go and splurge on the $225 tasting menu. When we first entered, I absolutely loved the vibe. All of the seating areas were comfortable and cozy, and, I felt like each seating was intimate for each party without feeling like you're too close to anyone. The only odd thing is the giant green clock that seemed a little bit out of place but made for a good conversation piece. The service was fantastic. Everyone was friendly and prompt. Now onto the food: For starters, we received the asparagus and soup. As well as the yellow small bite and I can't remember the name of (sorry!) both were OK. Not too memorable. Then came the fruits de mer, hamachi tartare, mt. lassen trout rillettes, kaluga caviar. I liked how the Hamachi was a accordion, which was quite clever. The presentation was gorgeous to say the least. The taste was solid. I love seafood, and it was good! kombu-roasted tomato, salted plum, shiso leaf, seaweed crisp: this was so pretty! I love the crisp on top that added a nice crunch. The tomato is fresh. Personally, I feel like this dish was an odd combination. I'm not sure the ingredients came together for me. ricotta gnudi, squash blossom, parmigiano reggiano consommé: this next course was again beautiful. However, at this point onward, I felt like the dishes were too salty. The ricotta is usually more of a subtle flavor, which is expected, but in this case, I felt like although it was flavorless, the consommé was too salty and that ricotta flavor was not well highlighted. Everything was sort of masked by the salty sauce. halibut: I felt like the halibut was a little bit overcooked. And again it was just on the salty side. I was hoping that the halibut would flake off, and you would get the nice juicy tenderness of well cooked halibut, but it was bit on the dry side. Wagyu : the choice of cut was not my favorite. It wasn't the most tender. There was some Wagyu flavor, but not tender and juicy like I would've hoped for a nice restaurant. Unfortunately, it was a bit disappointing. Charcoal grill duck: my friend and I had split the duck and Wagyu so I got to try this too. Again, some of the sauce was too salty and the duck was good, but didn't stand out. This is paired with some gizzard and heart which were OK. dessert: there was a strawberry fizz, this is good and fresh, but in my opinion, it was just a little bit too sweet and fizzy for me. It tasted a little bit like a strawberry soda. panna cotta, peach sorbet, almond-cherry crumble, elderflower honey: I liked this dessert. It was light and good. Raspberry jellies and bonbons: tasted as expected! I like the dark chocolate of the bonbons. Overall, the experience I would summarize it just a bit too salty and not what I had hoped for. I'm not sure it was worth the tasting menu price,. For this price I generally expect a pretty outstanding meal. Fun experience with friends, but unfortunately, not something I would recommend.
Special occasion treat
Always a delight the seasonal menu is ever changing. Staff are professional, knowledgeable and friendly. Since this was my birthday dinner present we got a few kitchen extras. We opted for the tasting menu and wine pairing. Everything was elegantly presented and tasty. The sommelier gave us as much background as we wanted and when I wasn’t as fond of one of the pairings gave me another option which I appreciated.

The hype around this dining experience fell short for our group. The reason for even the 2 stars is first and foremost due to the venue itself, very beautifully designed and secondly, the saving grace were the canapés at the start of dinner being the only bites worth having. Being a pescatarian myself, the coursed menu was slightly altered but executed poorly. The supplemental 75$ truffle corn raviolo fell short considering the price tag and the halibut we all were served was borderline a joke. The fish was so chewy and hard, flavorless and in some sort of soup. Almost every dish was swimming in something. The flavors of these dishes fell flat and it took 20+ minutes for the next dish to come out and by the tail end we all just wanted to leave and grab a slice of pizza to ease the sadness.
By far, one of the most amazing culinary experiences I have
By far, one of the most amazing culinary experiences I have had with my wife and in my life, PRESS is this incredible restaurant that has a Michelin star; per my knowledge, the first time I have gone to a restaurant that has earned one. This is one of the only restaurants that we have dined whose menu is completely gluten-free, which my wife loved. Additionally, they have an amazing wine list, which we selected and enjoyed this incredible bottle of wine, whose name leaves me, but it was magical. Given that we were celebrating our Irish Wedding Anniversary and our respective birthdays, the staff gave us this really sweet greeting card that was signed by all of them. Very cool. Each of the staff with whom we interacted was kind and warm and made us feel at home. We had come from touring wineries in nearby Calistoga and had coordinated dining at PRESS before we returned to our hotel for the day. The décor comprised high ceilings, industrial-styled windows that ran all around the bar and dining areas, and booth long-booth table seating and cushy yet fashionable gray-colored chairs at other tables. The courses we were served were synergy at synchronicity. Between the cuisine, the cocktails, the service, and the company, of course, with my darling wife, this experience was magical on a unicorn/Pegasus level. The Ricotta gnudi; very magical that was a flavor explosion with an incredibly artistic display. In fact, all of the dishes they served us were beautifully crafted and tasted otherworldly. The truffle glazed chicken with summer truffle, garden beets, smoked bacon, and sauce vin jaune was so savory and delicious. The 35-day New York strip had such a wonderful character that complimented well with the morel Mushrooms. For our after-dinner experience, we feasted on Jivaro chocolate crème, which was served with orange cocoa crumble, olive oil sorbet, chocolate sponge, and Custelmagro custard. Both those dishes were incredible, and the espresso martini we enjoyed concluded a culinary synergy we enjoyed throughout our experience at PRESS. It was a wonderful way to bring in another year as husband and wife.
The staff is very friendly and accommodating.
We came in there without any idea of what it is. We were just charging our car and killing time. We were there just to have dessert with our 7-month old. They were not judgy or didnt turn us away and are very accommodating of our needs. The food was amazing. We didnt get the five course meal but almost did. We love the 21-day aged rib eye and gnudi
I love this place.
Every visit has been excellent. Ambiance, food, service, cocktails, wine list. 5 Stars.
First time in press
Food was excellent and very sophisticated but service was to slow. Be prepared to spend more than 2 hours for having dinner

We had a mid week break, and planned a day trip to Napa - that of course included some wine tasting, as well as good food! We found availability at Press and booked! The service was pretty good. They offer 2 menus, full 7-course one, and a smaller 5-course one. We went with the 5 course one. It was pretty filling for us. The cod dish was phenomenal. The ricotta gnudi was sublime. The dessert was yum! Overall, definitely worth a try!
I dined here this past winter and i'm still thinking about
I dined here this past winter and i'm still thinking about this meal. I got their "Black & White" tasting menu which was truffle themed. Press has a great all Californian wine selection, which made this even more of a special Napa dinner. I also got one of their zero proof cocktails called "Push Pop" and I highly recommend it. The lanterne pasta was mouthwatering and the eye of ribeye was cooked so well and had a delectable sauce. I added on the caviar pretzel for an additional price and it was perfection. I loved how even the dessert had truffle on it. The vibe of this restaurant was like no other, it is so classy and the big clock from an old train station is such a stunning piece. There is no way I could go to Napa and not dine here again!
The good: Service was very attentive.
The food was very good. Kudos to the chef! The not-so-good: The cocktails were watered down a lot with a lot of syrup and tons of ice in a narrow glass. Alcohol is not very expensive and if I were the owner, I would not be so cheap with the alcohol and make your customers happy. Otherwise, this is what we remember along with the food. The portions, while good tasting, were pretentiously and ridiculously small for the price. $75 for three quarter sized dollops of steak set off with a little garnishment. The $52 cod was about the size of two wide fingers. My father said that after our meal, he needed to go get a hamburger.

Press has a very cute set up inside their barn like structure. It is filled with natural lighting! Our server was super friendly and recommended good wines and cocktails to try. Some of the "fruits de mer" we're a bit too fishy for me, but the pretzel and caviar was absolutely worth the supplement to split with the table. I also enjoyed the gnudi and the chocolate truffle. All in all, it was a nice experience with unique flavors. I probably would not return just because it is expensive but I'm glad I did it
A cruise ship dinner is better.
So utterly disappointing. The food was bland, flavorless and unexciting. We left genuinely devastated to have wasted $1200 for two people on a forced menu and genuinely awful wine pairing. Never finished one glass as they piled up around us. Felt like a cruise ship experience.
Ordinary, a little disappointed
We make a reservation at press restaurant, and celebrate my wife’s birthday. I like the pictures of this restaurant, looks good and beautiful. But seems the reviews are not very good. We arrived there earlier than our appt, but still ok to them to accept. The environment looks ok, bright and good designed, but the table looks so cheap, seems bought from IKEA, and no table cloth, similar with neighborhood small restaurant, not like Michelin. There is only one menu, beginning price is $225, you can choose upgrade, and pay extra $50, or $76 for one order update, and wine pairing is $225 too. We chose the regular $225 , and ordered cocktail. Cocktail looks and taste cheap, not fancy, cheap glasses, very ordinary, not like Michelin. The package has five course, each is tiny, I know Michelin restaurant, especially French style , each course is small, but this time is too small, compared with Paris and LA. Caviar is fantastic, the chef use leaf, caviar, pumpkin, excellent mixture, creative ,and full of courage; trout is good, this is why the restaurant put this dish as the cover pictures. Wagyu taste bad, they use american waygu, not Japanese wagyu, taste like regular beef, and hard to cut, in the mouth, very common, nothing special. The whole experience, feels so so, not worth the price. Waiter are good, looks like Michelin waiter, that’s all I feel.
Not the best
I was excited to try it and was expecting an amazing experience but unfortunately that’s not what we experienced. The atmosphere was pretty but the service and food left a lot to be desired. The waiter, bus staff and sommeliers were very scarce. We were left waiting forever for wine and to remove plates. Finally I had to request twice for the busters to come and remove empty glasses. Has to request for the sommelier as he only showed up once and never came back until we were fed up and had to ask. Then to the food, it just wasn’t up to par for a restaurant of this reputation. For over 3k I was overall disappointed and won’t go back.
PRESS Post COVID Upscale Dissatisfaction
I'd like to give the restaurant 3.5 stars. Press used to be my favorite restaurant to visit; they served the best steaks, fries, and seafood platters. I've dined at Press many many MANY times. However, post-COVID, they became more upscale. The dishes don't match the online photos anymore, and the portions are smaller and pricier. If you're going based on the photos, reconsider; otherwise, you might be disappointed. The food is good but leaves you feeling dissatisfied.
Definitely a celebration go to restaurant
Second time to this restaurant and it is extraordinary and memorable. The service is excellent and watchful without being irritating. We had the seven course prefix with the beverage tasting. I think it is better than the French laundry and the food was delicious. Do get the pretzel Eppie with a yogurt butter.
Way over priced for the quality of food
Very expensive for very mediocre (probably generous) food. Not one dish was memorable and honestly passed on some of the food placed in front of me because of taste. Service was what I would expect for the price.

Great food and atmosphere! Love the high ceilings and the giant fireplace. Did not love the fact that we were seated closest to the front door. So every time the door opened and closed, cold air would blow onto our table. It definitely detracted from the experience substantially. We asked to be moved and the restaurant was not able to accommodate. We did the 5 course tasting menu for $160 pp. My first 3 courses were amazing - absolutely loved the abalone with flowering wasabi and spring pea panna cotta. Was disappointed in the 21 day aged rib eye with $25 supplement. It didn't come out very hot, so I could already see the fat marbling cooling. It was a bit chewier than I would have preferred for medium rare.

My husband and I had the pleasure of dining at PRESS, and it was one of the most exceptional meals we've ever had. We ordered the tasting menu with the beverage pairing, and each and every course was thoughtful, delicious, and perfectly paired. Our waiter was not only attentive, but hilarious, and we also had the pleasure of meeting the manager, JC, who cared deeply about our experience. Knowing that we had just completed a wine certification course we'd been studying for for about six months, JC surprised us with a complimentary champagne for me and a cocktail for my husband so we could take a moment to celebrate before beginning our meal. The meal itself was exceptional. 9 courses, with so many standouts. To name a few, we loved the canapés, the salmon skin with caviar, the celery root soup, and the most delicious ricotta gnudi with white truffles, and of course, the scallop / lobster course. (The lobster is the optional add-on to the scallop course, so I ordered that so we could each try both.) We also had the absolute pleasure of meeting Christopher, our Sommelier, who walked us through each pairing and indulged even the nerdiest of our wine questions. One of our great delights in this pairing was the sake course, and we were also very pleasantly surprised with a beer pairing. This pairing is a refreshing and creative take on a traditional wine pairing, and it absolutely elevated our meal. PRESS is a beautiful space, and turned out to be the perfect place for us to celebrate a milestone in our ongoing wine education journey. Gorgeous meal. Incredible staff. Heartfelt thank you to JC, to our waiter, to Christopher the talented Somm and to the entire staff for a meal we won't forget. We'll be back as soon as we can get up to Napa again soon.
Beautiful inside and out, the ambiance was amazing.
Came in without reservation was welcomed with a smile and seat by the bar. Had the tasting menu food was spectacular. Made reservations to come back can't wait!

Came with a group of wine enthusiats and we were really looking forward to a good experience. The best part was the place - beautifully set and ambiance was great especially for a Wednesday night. The worst was the service- far from a Michelin experience and outright unprofessional. Took them a while to take our wine order and our bottles arrived completely out of sync with food. We didn't have our first glass of white until our second course. Food was rushed and courses came out too quickly one following the other. We didn't even finish half our wine when dessert was served. Two of us have ciliac disease and our waiter wrote that down in his notebook when we ordered. But when my beef tartar dish came it had wheat puffs with it that I'm glad I questioned because I'd have been very sick if I ate them. The food itself was underwhelming. Wine was way overpriced and it was difficult to find bottles below $1000. I've dined at many Michelin starred restaurants and this is as disappointed as I've ever been.
This meal was impeccable.
Service was perfect. Great Somm. Food was very delicately prepared and it was all about the flavors. My fave was the beef tartare. The others at the table loved the gnudi with truffles. We preferred the 4 course tasting because it gave you time to experience the dishes.
I've been wanting to stop here for sometime now anytime I'm
I've been wanting to stop here for sometime now anytime I'm in town, and I've finally managed to do just that with a little time to spare before my reservations at a nearby winery. I walked in with no reservations but they happily offered me a seat at the bar. I was able to try a few drinks recommended by the bartender but the Up River was by far my favorite, perfectly sweet and Smokey. Before stopping by I would say that I was very eager to try the pig ears that everyone raves about but I felt like it was cold and very underwhelming. Not a complete fan of the food I tried, maybe I came in with super high expectations as we sometimes do when dinning at a Michelin-Starred restaurant or my choices tonight just weren't the best but I did enjoy the ambiance and the drinks. Can't wait to come back and fall in love with a food item. Oh and let's not forget the playlist this night...*chefs kiss* I did not want to leave.
Would not recommend.
Restaurant was lovely, food was okay, but our server was very intrusive for some reason. Master sommelier was very helpful. Surprised to know it’s a one star Michelin restaurant. Would not recommend.

Great Service - amazing dinner!!
Read about the site in NYT and bought a reservation at Mother Wolf in LA 2 days later. Worked great and the food was amazing!!!
Worked perfectly!
Got the reservation (that I couldn't get anywhere else) and was able to entertain a group of friends at the infamous Bern's Steakhouse.
Got into Nobu Malibu
Wonderful! My parents are visiting and we have wanted to go to Nobu Malibu for years. I tried getting a reservation myself but it was next to impossible. So glad I was able to buy a reservation on appointment trader for a decent price!
Very easy
Was very hesitant going into this experience but am glad to say that it worked out very well ! will definitely use appointment trader in the future
Fabulous Lunch
I was veeeeeerry skeptical that this would work, particularly at a restaurant as hard to get into as Nobu Malibu, and it was perfect! We had lunch outside on the patio and it was fabulous!
Great reviewer team
Just wanted to take a second to shout out the reviewer team. Even though they probably review hundreds of listings and bids a day, they still take the time to leave great comments and respond relatively quickly. Thanks!
Incredible
I got a reservation to Don Angie, which I've been trying to book for weeks! I am very happy with this service.
Best platform out there!
Super simple, easy, and fast to secure reservations for hard-to-get restaurants and locations!
This app is life changing
This app has opened my world up to so many wonderful new experiences I would never have the chance to have without access to this awesome app! 10/10!

Worked well, got me into a restaurant with no availability
I was skeptical, and I still don't really know how they managed to find this hard-to-find reservation, but it was a win-win from my point of view, and I'll use this service again.
Last minute reservation for Delilah Las Vegas
Got a last minute reservation, dinner for 2 at Delilah Las Vegas: super impressed! The process was simple, transaction seamless. We had an amazing time! Couldn’t be happier! 😍
It works!
Ok at this point I've attended a reservation purchased on AT by a friend and sold a reservation personally. Both worked pretty smoothly, nothing sketchy about it. A few areas for improvement including a way to more directly communicate between buyers and sellers, but the app always seems to be in development. AT customer support is really(!) responsive and helpful too if you have questions!
Money transfer
As a seller, I like the fact i have the ability now to transfer money out of my AT account and into a bank account. Makes getting the money much easier then the process before.
Love this app
Got to go to places otherwise unreachable
Easy Access
Very easy to get into one of the hardest restaurants to reserve in New York.
Payouts Blocked Because of Sell Through Rate
Does anyone know how AT plans to handle cases where a seller is quitting the platform but has a sell through rate <25%? The error message I got said to fill more bids or find other ways to increase the rate.
Is AT really going to block sellers from withdrawing their money? Especially revenue made before the sell through rate was introduced??
Tune into NBC News - Top Story Tonight 7:40p ET
Let’s go. Get more people placing bids!
I will give you 50% of ALL of my PROFITS if you teach me how to make profits?
LOL. Thank you The New Yorker.
Appointment
Transferring reservations is not supported in AT. Why not just use the name in the AT screenshot?
Buyers interested in Bern's Steakhouse: PLEASE READ
Same goes for 4 Charles and I Sodi
Prepaid Reservation Fee
Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
Congrats on 3 mil
🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🧨🧨🧨 now on to 30 mill!
Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it?
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid?
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted.
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from?
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered?
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
