Dunsmoor Los Angeles Reviews from The Last Year
Great atmosphere, presentable food, and fantastic customer
Great atmosphere, presentable food, and fantastic customer service! The staff was very friendly and accommodating, the only downside was I came today for the brisket and found it a bit too dry for our liking, other than that were great.

Food was good- high quality ingredients and well prepared, with decent serving sizes so you actually get full while being able to taste different dishes. But service was very spotty, and the music was bizarre. I felt like I was being secretly filmed for my reaction to being abandoned by the server while being forced to listen to what sounded like aggressive religious indie rap.

The cornbread was delicious, overall the food was really good, only one star off because it was very smoky inside and I made it a little bit tough on my throat

One of the most phenomenal restaurants I've ever eaten at in Los Angeles and I've been to the best. If you don't try this place once, you'll miss out. If you do try it, you'll just miss it and wish to go back asap.
Always at the top of my list when thinking of where to go
Always at the top of my list when thinking of where to go for a nice dinner and evening out. If you don't have a reservation, just hit the wine bar in the back. It's a more limited menu, but obviously just as good, and it's one of my favorite wine bars in town in its own right.
Big Dunsmoor fan in general but just got a chance to try
Big Dunsmoor fan in general but just got a chance to try their brand new, much anticipated, bar-only burger and afraid to say it was fairly disappointing, though still very hopeful for improvement. The bun itself may have been the strongest element, so absolutely no need to mess with that. The patty was clearly a custom in-house grind, as would be expected. However the meat itself seemed to lack much if any flavor, was sorely under-seasoned, and in my case, sadly overcooked (though judging by other photos posted, that doesn't seem to be a consistent problem). All the toppings were good in themselves, individually, but when combined with the burger, something is still missing. It's very much in need of an acidic element (ketchup or pickles might do the trick, but given the elevated nature of the burger, I'd expect the kitchen might want to reach for something a little more distinctive). The side of pickled vegetables was helpful, but for my money, something more integral to the burger itself is needed to keep me ordering it again and again. Unique style of fries were also a great compliment. Thrice-fried I imagine, though not quite as crisp as they seemed to want to be. Duck-fat may be the solution, if not already in the mix. 5-stars for Dunsmoor. 3.5 for the newly debuted burger. But great hope for them finding a way to kick it up one notch.

Incredible.
A must hit, can't wait to come back. We were a group of 5 and went family style ordering multiple items on the menu. Everything was absolutely delicious.
Everything about this place was amazing.
The vibe of the restaurant is super cozy and everyone working there was extremely friendly and welcoming. This was some of the best food I have had in LA in a long while. Really looking forward to a chance to go back!

This Spanish building stands out with its unique style inside and out, and the food is expertly prepared and delicious. We enjoyed Hokkaido scallops, raw oysters, and cornbread, followed by grilled steelhead trout for the main course. The service was excellent, making it a must-visit for food enthusiasts.

Dunsmoor blew me away.
Full stop. Execution was terrific on a recent Saturday night. Other reviews have covered specific dishes, the space, the ambience of the hearth, the staff, the restaurant's arc as the team has gotten its sea legs, etc., and I don't need to touch on those here. I'm taking a beat to write this because I was struck over and over by the sense that Brian Dunsmoor's creation is spiritual successor to both Campanile and Oakland's Oliveto (formative restaurant experiences for me and both sorely missed). The cooking is gutsy and puts ingredients front and center. Nothing we ordered felt like an afterthought or the result of lazy, paint-by-numbers menu construction. Case in point: the "dressed lettuces" listed as a side. A well dressed (and generous) salad of baby lettuce showered with herbs (chives, parsley, dill, chervil), it was honest, delicious, and epic. I'll be back with bells on.
great food, good service and I will never go there again.
Why you ask? because I love my friends and I'd like to have a conversation with them and actually hear what they're saying right ACROSS THE F**KING TABLE!!!!!
Finally had a chance to try.
Nice space lot with candles and big cafeteria tables. Didn't get to try out the steak but mushroom pork chop was good. Food was little on the heavier side. Tacos appetizer probably a must with the wood roasted oysters. Also save room for dessert.
Present chef at Dunsmoor was the chef de cuisine at Hatchet
Present chef at Dunsmoor was the chef de cuisine at Hatchet Hall which specializes in pre-20th Century style open hearth cooking with hot wood stoked, welcoming glowing flames. The menu seems very similar so Eastsiders do not have to brave the traffic all the way to Culver City. Room has an almost rustic warmth of oak wood tables & chairs, brown terracotta style tile flooring. West half of counter seating allows close view of ancient hearth which cooked our huge, thick rib eye steak. And when Dunsmoor says it opens at 5:30pm, they must depend on the master atomic clock at the U.S. Naval Observatory. We ordered food items that required two different reds, but didn't want to have full glasses. Our peripatetic sommelière came up with the great suggestion of ordering 1/2 glasses worked out perfectly! Our refreshing, acidic, sparkling mineral water was Oachita Mountains near the Arkansas-Oklahoma border. I was so impressed by their flame cooked Pacific Oysters in Mullet Roe & Chive Butter that I had on my last visit in fall, but unfortunately they were out of season as told by our friendly counter man. 1) Edna's Sour Milk Corn Bread: Brown, caramelized, soft, cushy, moist Masa enlivened by mildly piquant Hatch Chile, dairy White Cheddar, sweet honey, probiotic cultured butter melting on top. 2) Aunt Emmy's Pork & Green Chile Stew was a knock off of Mexican Chile Verde. Chunks of fibrous meat in a veggie infused, greenish brown, thickened sauce. Grated white Cheddar generously piled on top. Bit charred, thick flour tortilla that looks "hecho a mano". Corn bread also went well with this dish. 1-2) Maison des Ardoisière, Silice Rouge, Vin de Allobroges, Freterive, France 2022. Made from Mondeuse. Bright, light body, sprightly, raspberry, touch plum. 3) Impressive slab of seemingly well aged rib eye with detached bone charred by the glowing embers. The sunset red, contrasted by dark blackened rind, medium rare, thick cut meat is lush with unctuous tallow-like fat. Primeval chaw, yet soft, plush with the right amount of smoke. Meat satisfying as well as being sensory overload in its richness. Smokey bone marrrow is the tastiest. 32oz so it is way more than enough for two people. 4) Strong fatty meat requires strong red wine this time from Piedmonte, Italy. Nebbiolo, Spirito Agricola Ballarin, Vinicoltori in la Morra Lange 2021. Deep dark fruit, more tannic, acidic, heavier body stood up to the charred, meaty, blood minerality of the beef. 5) Thought a palate cleanser after this heavy meal was in order so ordered the Blood Orange Ice Cream which was a refreshing orange flavoured vanilla ice cream. 6) Meyer Lemon Shaker Pie: Rustic, crumbly, nutty textured dry crust. Bit of curd-like filling. Maybe putting the Blood Orange ice cream on top would have made an excellent à la mode. Discreet Dunsmoor Bar in the same building for a night cap après dîner. Right restaurant, wrong neighborhood??? After decades of gentrification many times started by pioneering artists & next by chic restaurants displacing long time residents when rent prices rose, many locals resent the dissolution of their familiar neighborhood as well as already hard to find parking becoming even more inaccessible. Hopefully, some accommodation can be made to ameliorate this situation where dinner for two can run over $300 in a neighborhood that seems less able to do so. Food, Ambiance, Service. 4 stars.

Good. Expensive. Small plates. But well executed. I like the communal table situation. Candles are classy. Nice bar space in the back. Having recently moved to NELA from the westside, it was nice to see a hatchet hall affiliate, decadent corn bread and all.

Dined at Dunsmoor for the first time last night for an anniversary dinner. I was pleasantly greeted by the hostess and loved that she recognized that we were there to celebrate an anniversary. Given that I had made reservations a couple hours before to give my partner last minute options...she seated us at the Chef's counter right in front of where the magic took place. We ordered the scallops which were a bit salty as stated by a reviewer below but still good, the pork chops were excellent and paired it with their mashed potatoes. Finished it off with the waitresses recommendation of the chocolate cake. It was sweet but not too sweet which is my personal preference. Ambiance was a delight. On par with Infatuation LA's recs for romantic dinners. Closing this review off with a shout out to the waitress who went above and beyond and took the time so I knew which white wine I wanted to pair with my three course meal.

Dunsmoor (named for chef Brian Dunsmoor, formerly of The Hart & the Hunter among other restaurants, still missing their biscuits btw) offers a high quality, high end menu. Perfect for a special night out or a splurge or a cheat day (if you're a part-time vegan like me), you will get your money's worth. The ambiance is casual, relaxed but with attention to detail. We were seated at the counter, which is a lot of fun (make sure you note this request when you make a reservation.) Service was attentive and timely. We started with sparkling water and inquired about the wine list. Since the plates are meant to be shared, I was very happy when the sommelier suggested half-glasses of wine. This is a brilliant idea and allowed us to sample two different wines to pair with each plate. Dinner included Sour Milk Cornbread (sweet and savory at the same time), Pork and Green Chili Stew (served with tortillas) and Beef Ribeye, served with the best bone marrow I've ever had. The 32 ounce Ribeye is clearly the star of the show, as well it should be for $129 before tax. (My dining companion reported that this price is $40 higher than the last time he ordered the same dish here. Yes, inflation is a thing and restaurants have tight margins but still.) Nevertheless, it's still worth it, especially considering a certain restaurant that has just closed was selling a ceratin cocktail for $100. The Ribeye was a perfect medium rare, rich and flavorful and delicious; you'll likely have some left to take home. For dessert, we shared the Blood Orange Ice Cream (excellent, creamy and citrusy) and the Meyer Lemon Shaker Pie. Both were delicious. A word about parking and gentrification. Parking is valet ($8); it's almost impossible to find street parking in the area unless you're willing to walk a few blocks. The restaurant is on a main street in a residential area and concern about gentrification was expressed when Dunsmoor first opened. These concerns seem to have quieted recently but the issue has certainly not gone away. You can read more about this topic here: https://www.latimes.com/food/story/2023-07-23/dunsmoor-bub-and-grandma-glassell-park-gentrification and here: https://lataco.com/restaurants-gentrification-highland-park We do need good restaurants and the pandemic certianly took its toll on the industry. But we also need social equity. Dunsmoor is definitely a good restaurant; time will tell about the equity.
Thank you Hetty for the recommendations and amazing service.
Hats off to pastry chef Erika Chan my friend could not stop talking about how amazing the ice cream was. Everything was amazing but also make sure to keep the cornbread skillet for dipping anything into that sauce/butter.

Although the food and service and decor were all stellar, a very special birthday celebration was marred by the incredibly LOUD LOUD LOUD music which meant we had to strain to listen to our companions and yell to be heard. This is so exhausting and so unnecessary. I honestly feel that if you were to ask each diner whether they enjoy the loud, pounding, incessant music you would hear a resounding NO! Why do otherwise fantastic restaurants think that LOUD music with a bass and drum beat that never stop makes for a relaxing evening? Other than that, everything was truly perfect!
Michelin recognized Southern spot
Came here for dinner with a couple of friends and we made a reservation beforehand for 6pm (15 minute grace period). There’s parking there as well as street parking. Old Man Whiskey Bar is hidden there as well. Credit cards accepted. We ordered the fried green tomatoes, loaded baked potato gnocchi, dry aged kanpachi, confit duck leg, and the cornbread (which everyone says to get). The potato gnocchi was rich and very cheesy. The plates were on the smaller side but all the food is served family style. I liked how well the kanpachi was cooked - the skin was crispy but the meat was tender. I do think that the cornbread was a little oily but it’s because of the generous amount of butter and it is tasty.
Delicious!!!
We absolutely loved this place! First of all, I am Not a “Foodie”— I like most food, but don’t really get excited about most of it. This was Different— Above & beyond! The cornbread can’t even be described! (& I’m southern, so I know), the Turkey meatloaf & mashed potatoes melted in my your mouth! Salad was great! The only thing we didn’t love were the carrots, but only because they were a little spicy. Excellent ambiance & service.
Worst service with subpar food!
This is literally the worst service we have ever received in Los Angeles. There’s a mandatory 20% minimum service charged on top of your bill regardless of service provided. Because of the automatic tip, the server that we had was so unmotivated, arrogant and acting like waiting/greeting customers was beneath her. She even tasked the buser to take our orders. What’s weird was that she was standing right behind us and still using the buser as an intermediary and didn’t come to us. Very bizzare. The $80 ribeye came out shriveled, thinly sliced like a cheap steak sandwich sans buns. The chef left in April and the place is in shambles. They need to invest in competent wait staff and floor managers.
Unforgettable dining with friends
This venue is a fantastic spot to enjoy a meal with friends. The atmosphere is both energetic and relaxed, striking a perfect balance. The interior decor creates a cozy ambiance, while the outdoor space offers a refreshing experience. The cocktails provided a refreshing and satisfying taste, with a decent strength to them. As for the food, the menu showcased creative and intentional items. The grilled mushrooms, in particular, stood out, as they were well-seasoned and had a meaty texture. And let's not forget the cornbread, which was delightfully savory and soft. All in all, a truly enjoyable dining experience!
Yummers!!
Yummy...omggg the place is so cute..my 3rd time here but this time for brunch and yasssss!! The crispy potatoes oh yeah..the roosted brocolini ues maaam and ommg the sourdoad hot cakes with lemon curd on top melt in ur mouth..Its a yes for me across the board!! The fried chicken is just okay in my opinion and nothing to write home about..The fish..Turkey meatloaf is a thumbs up!! Cute cocktails. A bit pricey but totally worth it.
Disappointed at food quality.
I had high expectation as I chose this for my husband’s birthday. I was eyeing the ribeye and was eager to try some other exciting dishes. However we were all disappointed. Best: melon and ham Worst: Elk, Ribeye, the whole fish The Elk was prepared medium rare and we thought it’s perfect. But other meat was rough. It was difficult for us to cut. The seasoning was too heavy, towards too salty side. We are from San Francisco and I m not sure dishes in LA are more strongly tasted Ribeye was a flop. We ordered medium rare. They cooked perfect but the quality of the meat was no good, very tough. It was like US choice grade with a lot of gristle. Very disappointed at this $80 price point. The fish was good but the tomatoes sauce ruined it completely. Not worth for the 5 star review which misled me. Overpriced for such food quality.
Must try!
The atmosphere was wonderful. The service was impeccable. The food was delicious. The cocktails were fabulous. I will return!
Los Angeles's Best Restaurants that are most frequently booked by customers of Dunsmoor Los Angeles
Great Service - amazing dinner!!
Read about the site in NYT and bought a reservation at Mother Wolf in LA 2 days later. Worked great and the food was amazing!!!
Worked perfectly!
Got the reservation (that I couldn't get anywhere else) and was able to entertain a group of friends at the infamous Bern's Steakhouse.
Got into Nobu Malibu
Wonderful! My parents are visiting and we have wanted to go to Nobu Malibu for years. I tried getting a reservation myself but it was next to impossible. So glad I was able to buy a reservation on appointment trader for a decent price!
Very easy
Was very hesitant going into this experience but am glad to say that it worked out very well ! will definitely use appointment trader in the future
Fabulous Lunch
I was veeeeeerry skeptical that this would work, particularly at a restaurant as hard to get into as Nobu Malibu, and it was perfect! We had lunch outside on the patio and it was fabulous!
Great reviewer team
Just wanted to take a second to shout out the reviewer team. Even though they probably review hundreds of listings and bids a day, they still take the time to leave great comments and respond relatively quickly. Thanks!
Incredible
I got a reservation to Don Angie, which I've been trying to book for weeks! I am very happy with this service.
Best platform out there!
Super simple, easy, and fast to secure reservations for hard-to-get restaurants and locations!
This app is life changing
This app has opened my world up to so many wonderful new experiences I would never have the chance to have without access to this awesome app! 10/10!
Worked perfectly
Was a little nervous at first but was pleased to see that the booking went through flawlessly.
Highly recommended.

Worked well, got me into a restaurant with no availability
I was skeptical, and I still don't really know how they managed to find this hard-to-find reservation, but it was a win-win from my point of view, and I'll use this service again.
Last minute reservation for Delilah Las Vegas
Got a last minute reservation, dinner for 2 at Delilah Las Vegas: super impressed! The process was simple, transaction seamless. We had an amazing time! Couldn’t be happier! 😍
It works!
Ok at this point I've attended a reservation purchased on AT by a friend and sold a reservation personally. Both worked pretty smoothly, nothing sketchy about it. A few areas for improvement including a way to more directly communicate between buyers and sellers, but the app always seems to be in development. AT customer support is really(!) responsive and helpful too if you have questions!
Money transfer
As a seller, I like the fact i have the ability now to transfer money out of my AT account and into a bank account. Makes getting the money much easier then the process before.
Love this app
Got to go to places otherwise unreachable
Easy Access
Very easy to get into one of the hardest restaurants to reserve in New York.
Whose name will my reservation be under when I arrive at the venue?
It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!
Appointment
I was waiting on the transfer for name but it hasn’t happened yet and my reservation is tonight , will it be an issue that is hasn’t changed into my name yet
Buyers interested in Bern's Steakhouse: PLEASE READ
Same goes for 4 Charles and I Sodi
Prepaid Reservation Fee
Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
Just got scammed!
Thats unfortunate but you can always get your money back if they cancel the reservation.
Congrats on 3 mil
🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🧨🧨🧨 now on to 30 mill!
Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it?
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid?
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted.
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from?
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered?
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
