In town for a work trip and we wanted to find something
In town for a work trip and we wanted to find something close to our hotel. That was really delicious and we landed on this place. I love the vibe inside with the dark navy walls. It looks very much like a speakeasy sort of vibe. The nice hostess told us that they were no tables available without a reservation, totally fine since there were some seats at the bar and that was a great vibe. The bartender and his bar backs were really attentive. We started out with some wine, and then tried some of the oysters, the shakshuka deviled eggs, split the burger and had the Barada mashed potatoes. Everything was a 10 out of 10, including the complementary popovers with the salty butter that everybody gets. The only thing that we didn't really like where the burrata potatoes, I didn't really taste any burrata in there. It didn't really matter because we had plenty of food. I really liked this place, staff was great. Food was awesome.

Went to Wayfare for an event so we had the private room.
The place is lovely- definitely old school tavern vibes and the private room is on the 3rd floor so it's very private and ambient. The food leaves a lot to be desired though. Expected so much more but nothing was mind blowing. Some were just fine, some were bad. Didn't get to take photos of everything but we got these:1. Popover: crisp on the outside. Pretty good2. Butter lettuce salad: just straight up butter lettuce with some dressing, oranges, and radishes - most underwhelming salad of all time. At least put some effort into this. Skip this3. Shakshuka deviled eggs: eh it was fine, definitely not worthy to have the word "shakshuka" in front of it. Underwhelming4. Fried chicken: had high expectations for this since Wayfare is famous for this. I opted for a thigh and couldn't even finish one piece. Dry af. Honestly, you can get better fried chicken at a fast food joint. 5. Pumpkin tortellini: this was alright. The cheese probably made it better and the chunks of pumpkin. Pasta wasn't very Al Dente, but this was probably one of the more edible dishes 6. Mac and cheese: very silky and saucy but not very cheesy. The pumpkin tortellini tasted more of cheese than this. More cream vs anything. Good level of sauciness and not dry but not much to offer in taste. 7. Broccolini: I mean, it's broccolini with garlic. Nothing special but gotta get some greens in8. Crème brûlée: usually not a big fan but this was decent and standard. Not bad9. Opera cake: coffee, chocolate layers. Not bad: this was alright. Overall, Wayfare is underwhelming at best. Good ambience but the food was not. Maybe it's better if you get stuff a la carte. For group bookings in the private room though, kinda meh and lackluster.

My husband & I enjoyed an early dinner.
Wanted to give high praise to the ambiance, food, and most of all the service. We were quite pleased with the attention paid to us by Ginger, a member of the staff. Deviled EggsPork ChopSalmonChocolate Cake

I was on my own for dinner while traveling for work and a local colleague recommended this place. Although it was very crowded on a rainy Monday evening, I was able to get seated at the bar right away. Well, it wasn't actually the bar...it was a bar-like counter that looked into the kitchen, but on that particular evening I really didn't care. Also, the stools were bolted to the ground so I felt like I was kind of far from the counter, but not a huge deal. This place gives you the vibe that it's been on that corner for decades - I have no idea if that's the case, but I liked it.I had been craving a burger, so I immediately gravitated to the Tavern Burger. The server told me it was outstanding and he was right! He also recommended the deviled eggs as a starter, so I I ordered those. I really liked them too, but I wish he would have warned me how many there were...definitely more than I needed! Also, my starter didn't come out until after my burger had arrived, which was kind of weird, although the burger came out freaky fast.

Actually the 3 best things about Wayfare now days are: they are open on Sunday for a nice location to have a family lunch, the restaurant is like a throw-back decor from London and very comfortable, and the popovers are amazing!!! However, I think the food has gone down hill. We had the $29 burger and chicken and waffles. The burger was just ok and almost like a slider on steroids and the chicken and waffle was almost un-eatable. This chicken lacked any meat and the waffle felt like it came from a frozen isle of the grocery store. I really wish I could rate them higher and maybe they had an off day, but our dinning experience was very sub-par (except the popover).
Stopped for some small bites and drinks. Place had a bit og an upscale feeling, but without being to posh. Staff was friendly, food was good and i got a couple of good beers. What more can you ask for?

On a chilly day, my friend and I stumbled upon this restaurant and we were delighted by its inviting atmosphere and great reviews. We were quickly seated by a host, who unfortunately let us know that she needed the table by 5 pm. Well, I wasn't planning to spend the whole evening but I wasn't planning to watch the clock to make sure i eat fast enough. That was a bit of a letdown - disappointment #1.To warm up on a cold day, we decided to order soup and the Shakshuka deviled eggs. While we were hoping for a hot and flavorful Shakshuka dish, we received a cold deviled egg appetizer instead. This was a bit of a surprise, yes we should've clarified the dish before ordering. I want to stress the word shakshuka - usually served in a mediterranean places and served hot. - disappointment #2 The soup, unfortunately, was extremely watery and lacking in flavor. This was a bit disappointing as we were hoping for a warm and comforting dish - disappointment #3As we finished our appetizers, we eagerly awaited the arrival of our salad with cooked salmon. Although we didn't receive any updates from our waiter, the salad eventually arrived - but the salmon was still uncooked inside. This was a bit frustrating, but we tried not to let it ruin our overall dining experience - disappointment #4We appreciated the welcoming atmosphere and friendly service at this restaurant

If you're looking for a classic American dining experience
If you're looking for a classic American dining experience with a modern twist, Wayfare Tavern is definitely worth checking out. The atmosphere is elegant and upscale, yet still manages to maintain a laid-back vibe that makes you feel right at home. The restaurant is housed in a historic building, complete with brick walls, hardwood floors, and vintage light fixtures that give it a unique charm. The menu at Wayfare Tavern is full of delicious, high-quality dishes that are sure to satisfy your taste buds. The fried chicken is a must-try - it's crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and seasoned to perfection. The steak tartare is another standout dish, with its fresh, bold flavors and tender beef. And if you're in the mood for seafood, the oysters and lobster rolls are both excellent choices. And make sure to leave room for the delicious popovers that they bring around. Whether you're looking for a romantic night out or a fun evening with friends, this restaurant is a great choice. Just be sure to make a reservation ahead of time, as it can get pretty busy on weekends.

Very nice atmosphere, delicious food and very tasty
Very nice atmosphere, delicious food and very tasty cocktails. My wife had the Tavern Burger, I had the poached eggs and the Bently Reserve cocktail. Their brunch was served with rolls too which were very soft and delicious. The servers were very attentive and professional. The music was jazzy and added to the ambiance. We reserved in advance and had no problem getting our table.
We took five staff members to this restaurant and got a good sampling of the menu. The starters, squash soup was excellent. Also good was the Caesar salad. For the entrees, the fried chicken and pork shops were standouts. Also good was the salmon and burger. Their popovers were amazing. Also good were the cocktails and a decent but small wine list. Deserts were also good. Service was average.
🙂
Popular restaurant, friendly service, good food
Excellent food. Friendly service. Very nice atmosphere. Fried chicken as excellent. Steak was on point. Popovers are outstanding.

I had the chicken sandwich and my wife had the burger. Outstanding food! The fries were hot and fresh too. For dessert we split chocolate and caramel ice cream. The caramel was the essence of "burnt sugar", and the chocolate was a sweet, darker than milk chocolate, chocolate. We'll be back for sure!
Simple food done in excellent way. Came in here for a last minute lunch and was blown away by the burger. I normally don’t like oversized patties but the quality was top notch. The beef tartare was also excellent and the deviled eggs were good but were a little too refrigerated.
😍

My girlfriend is from San Francisco and said we have to have lunch here. This place is amazing! Ok, so let's talk about the popovers! I would be satisfied by just eating them with butter. The deviled eggs perfection. Caeser salad was great. And the organic fried chicken was some of the best I've ever had. The restaurant was filled with the most amazing smell and we sat at the bar in front of the open kitchen. Everyone in the kitchen was passionate preparing the food. Love to see this. There was so much on the menu that I wanted to try so I have to go back.

This experience was the opposite of last time.
We had a great server and not so great food.Let me say that I really don't get why the fried chicken here is so popular. It's nothing special and with the chicken and waffles, it's even less so.Soggy chicken and bland waffles. The batter on the chicken was horrible. Wet, peeling off, no thanks. Soaked in bland gravy. Again no thanks. My coworker ordered it even though I advised against it.The beef tartar was okay though and the burger was decent but not spectacular. Our server was really great and that's why I tipped 30% but they really need to step up their food game.
😍
Fabulous Old school eatery and wine club.
Great for post work nosh and conversations
🙂
Super solid meal + ambiance.
I had the salmon which was lovely - light enough it was very refreshing but good portion size so definitely full. We also had deviled eggs and oysters as an appetizer which was lovely as well. I'm not usually a deviled eggs fan but loved the flavor profile of these. We sat outside near one of the heat lamps and were very comfortable!
🙂
This place was great! The food and service was exceptional.
I loved every dish that we got- the plateau de fruits de mer, caesar salad, and baked mac & cheese particularly stood out. The tartare was great too, but not my favorite of all time. Our burger wasn't medium the first time around, but they fixed it right away. Our bread also came out cold at first, but they brought fresh bread out right away. Also when I went here, they were checking covid cards which is great!
Great dinner and kind staff who were so attentive and at the same time let you be to enjoy the meal! The fried chicken really should be shared, it is good just a lot for one person. Bone marrow such a treat, hard to find at many restaurants. Must go!
Delicious food and excellent service. Our waiter Wade was very accommodating and enjoyed learning that their “popovers” are Yorkshire puddings in the UK! Great choice of drinks and a menu to sort all tastes. Our Tavern burgers were first class and perfectly cooked.

Disappointing experience
We waited for our main course to come. And waited. And waited. When it did arrive, one of us (pork chop) was disappointed. Although it was served medium-rare, it was so dry it was hard to cut and harder to chew. The Caesar salad was, not surprisingly, very creamy. The highlight of the meal were the popovers with sweet butter. Waiters were remarkably busy--not their fault that they couldn't provide first-rate service. Entrees were huge--neither of us (small-ish women) couldn't finish even half of our entrees.
😍
Wow, This is a an extremely beautiful restaurant.
I loved the decor the most. Great place for a romantic dinner or a birthday. The service is really great and the food was excellent as well. My favorite thing of the evening was the beef tartare and the burrata appetizer. The "archer" cocktail was my favorite drink of the evening. Overall great experience!
😍
Loved the potato leek soup and the popover style bread.
Amazing! The Mac and cheese and Salmon were spectacular. Too bad was too full for dessert.

Sat at the bar for dinner and a couple of drinks last night Friday, I didn’t catch the bartenders name but he was excellent. Knowledgeable, friendly, and very attentive. Caesar salad was good, generous portion, and had the 8oz steak which was cooked to perfection. Atmosphere was pleasant as well, music on point. All in all, 100 points.
😍
I came here with my friend for restaurant week.
The butter lettuce salad was amazing, the chicken was good, and the donuts were decadent. We also got a side of mashed potatoes, which was good, but nothing to write home about. The popover they brought as a starter was delicious, as was the very salty butter in a little container that looked like a service bell. Service was excellent. Yum!
😍
Upon walking in, the place doesn't appear to be that big.
But they have private dining areas, which is where I was taken to for the wedding reception I was attending. The place is classy looking, but not intimidating or snooty. Plus points for the extra little room that gave off speakeasy vibes. As far as food goes, the salad and deviled eggs came out first as appetizers. Both great! Then, the salmon, fried chicken, burrata mashed potatoes, and green beans came out. Also great, especially those potatoes! Even though they were more liquid-y than I prefer, the richness had me coming back for more. I think the desserts were also good, but, after being served several vodka mules by Jason, my focus had shifted to trying to find spots to check out that night. Shout out to Jason for listing several places, by neighborhood, on a napkin for me!I will be adding Wayfare to my list of places to return to, both for the food and the service.

Our first time here, and my 100th Yelp review! We chose outdoor seating, which was a pleasant ambiance. Noise was average, not much traffic noise and seating felt somewhat private. Service was super attentive and accommodating to my wife's tree nut allergy. Our favorites tonight were the bone marrow appetizer and the burger. The bone marrow was like a dinosaur bone (giant!) full of juicy goodness, so rich and the bread made the perfect dipping vessel. The burger came with bacon and brie cheese, we opted for no egg or avocado and it was quite delicious on its own (we ordered medium rare and it was closer to medium). Our least favorite tonight was the fried chicken. It wasn't as juicy as we'd have liked and the texture was more like baked chicken than fried. This was disappointing to us as this is what they are known for. We wonder if ordering this during restaurant week played a factor (quantity vs quality?).We enjoyed the cocktails and wine, and the server helped us customize them for ideal pairings with our food. Overall, we had a nice experience at this SF staple and will definitely be back.
🤮
I would give ZERO stars if i could.
THE WORST RESTAURANT EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE. Waitress thought she could remember drinks for the table. Nope. Forgot my drink. Brought 5 out of 6 drinks. We knew she was too stupid but she didn't write it down and what do you know we were right. She then took 3 rounds of drink orders until our food came 100 minutes later. literally 1.67 hours after ordering. WHAT A JOKE. Horrendous in every way. Arrogant attitude all night with zero ability to do her job. Weird combination. She's the dumbest and worst waitress in history. Then she finally brings the food. 6 people. But she brought 5 entrees. She forgot my drink the first time. Then the same idiot forgot my food order. ARE YOU KIDDING ME. Pure imbecile. She said "they're working on it." No, they weren't. She never submitted my order. Said she would comp my drink. AS IF I GIVE A FUCK ABOUT THE COST OF MY DRINK. I was going to pay the entire check for everyone at my table. What a moron this idiot was. On 6/12/21 I had a health issue. After that I didn't eat any restaurant food. ZERO. For almost a full year. This was my first cheating day since then. And she never delivered the food i ordered. Everyone was done eating by the time she brought out a burger. Literally more than 2 hours after we ordered. So I immediately had her put it in a box since everyone was ready to leave by then. I wanted to leave the box at the table as a huge "fuck you" but someone else wanted the burger so I gave it to her to take home. What a horrendous night after i planned to break my new diet getting a Wayfare burger. Now i will never ever attend your restaurant again. And she kept coming to the table and making up bullshit lies about how and why she fucked up our entire order all night long. Blamed management non stop for resubmitting her order without her knowledge. What?!? How do you even make something like that up. Just write down your orders! Nobody is impressed if you can remember the order. And if you get it wrong, well you just fucked up someone's night. WRITE IT DOWN asshole. Then she brings the check out. Nobody even wanted to look at her or speak to her at this point. She knows she massively fucked up the entire night. And she says she comped my last drink and a round for the entire table. BUT....she double charged us for a ceasar salad (table ordered only one) and double charged for deviled eggs (table ordered only one). This con artist tried to "comp" us and then steal that money right back by double charging on other items. Of course she said that was just a mistake and not her fault but let's be real...She's a worthless idiot con artist. Unbelievable.
The restaurant has some very nice outdoor space but it is shady so bring a jacket. Our service was great.
😍
Great - went twice in span of 2 days
In town on business and ate at the bar - I could sit and just eat those warm popovers and butter. Very good food. Bartenders both times were attentive and pleasant. Great atmosphere inside. And very busy.

I've been told you can't appreciate happiness without sadness but now I know you can't appreciate delicious food without disgusting food. I've read many reviews about this place and decided to get some of their popular recommendations. I was genuinely impressed with the texture of the deviled eggs because I've never had any that actually felt dry. They were underseasoned and lackluster outside of the presentation, absolutely disappointing. While the pasta wasn't "bad" it was definitely a step before al dente but somehow the mushrooms were over cooked and chewy... again impressive that they undercooked half the dish while simultaneously overcooking the other half. Now the best for last, their chicken hands down looses to kfc on a bad day. I don't think I've had chicken this dry since college when my roommate tried his hand at cooking, I mean it sucked the moisture from my mouth. I thought this would all be fine until I left and I started to feel the pain from being unfortunate enough to try their food. Later that night I ended up spending it sitting on the bathroom floor puking into the toilet regretting ever coming here. But hey, I encourage you to come here so you can better appreciate anywhere and everywhere else in SF!
Nice atmosphere. Ordered to go and the food was excellent. Mac and cheese was creamy and had a nice crust. Caesar was fresh not overly dressed and balanced. There were a couple of unexpected and yummy popovers. I sat at the bar and sipped a rye while the food was prepared. We will be coming back tomorrow for brunch.
