Franklin Barbecue Austin Reviews from The Last Year
Franklin Barbecue is delicious! It is 100% worth the hype!
Franklin Barbecue is delicious! It is 100% worth the hype! We got there around 8 on a Tuesday during summer we were 10th and 11th in line. They opened the doors for the restroom and the merch. They provided a lot of chairs. And a lot of the line was covered which provided shade and protection from the rain. They had fans under the cover but they were not on because it was not super hot. We ordered around 11:20 and started digging in at 11:30. We ordered 1/2 a pound of brisket, 3/4 pound of ribs, 1/4 pound of turkey, 1 of the original sausages, and a side of beans. The brisket was the best I have ever had! The ribs were delicious! And the turkey was surprisingly not dry- it was amazing...easily the best turkey I have ever had! The sausage was well done, and pretty good. The experience was very fun and the barbecue was easily the best I have ever had!
Ideal For: traditional Texas bbq.
Our faves: brisket, pulled pork, beef ribs. Keep in mind: super friendly staff but expect a long wait time. Sides are limited to potato salad, slaw and pinto beans.

O.M.G. barbecue made in heaven. Hellfire is a sauce so good, I wanted to nick my lower lip and coat it with this sauce on the long drive back to Arizona, just to remind me... We had no idea what we had ventured into by accident. We stumbled into Franklin's after a hard week of being hot, dry, and thirsty, yanno? The sign said barbecue. It might well have been a gate covered in pearls. The hunk of pigsickles we got each was a monument to excess, the Mount Everest of barbecue. My stomach has growled each night that I've subjected it to worse since. The adult beverages were ice-cold, the hot barbecue sauce created a demand for more... and we had to Uber back to our hotel. I haven't ever had ribs that good. And the sauces, we tried... Very nice people. Busy busy kitchen. Limited parking when it gets busy. Prices? You get what you pay for.
Way overrated! Tourist trap
I dont know why people give high reviews!! Everything is way over salted all you van taste is salt and pepper! Not sure what the hype is! I wouldnt stand in line 5 minutes for that dood

Food was ok the brisket was a bit salty and dry, the sausage links were good especially the jalapeno , the potato salad was super salty, waited almost 2 hrs definitely not worth the wait youre better off going to terrys for better quality and better service. Overall id recommend spending your money elsewhere for better service and quality

One of the GOATs in austin, the brisket here is still amazing, definitely one of the best Ive ever had. Cut to order its juicy and flavorful. Also tried the ribs which were fall off the bone good. Seasoning was perfect. The service here is super friendly and they move the line fairly well. fyi it is a small space hence the long lines. The dining area is also small but cozy and most folks know not to linger with a long line. Its really good but would I wait more then an hour? na, if you cant come at a good time the hack is to order ahead the night before, the only this is you have to order a full meal/full brisket but if youre with a large group it makes so much sense. Its a spot to try if youre a bbq nerd but if youre just a tourist looking for good bbq, austin has plenty of options which you wont have to wait too long.

Came here on Tuesday around 1:10, the line was not too bad, took about 30 min to get my order. I got the ribs, brisket, pulled pork. The brisket and ribs are so tender, ribs basically fall of the bones, just the ribs are a bit salty. The pulled pork is a little bit dry compared to the other two. Potato salad is just average. At around 2pm, they were sold out of everything. There's a small parking lot in the back and some street parking.

The "ending" (technically beginning but I wrote my reviews backwards haha) to my TX trip and we gotta save the best for last!!! On a Thursday during Fall season... 930am-ish arrival and line isn't ridiculous! There's also chairs available for usage, and it's not super hot, nor raining...it's a W(in) in my book! 11:20am, we're at the front door! 11:50am, placed our order and there's still brisket, yeeee! 12:00pm, grubbing time!!! Everything was great -- brisket was juicy and tender. Sausage was good too, the white bread such an experience haha ~2.5hour process, was able to do a coffee run (literally, I visited to paperboy 3blocks up LOL) chatted with people while in line from locals to those visiting as well (like ourselves!) It's a whole day thing so plan accordingly! Upon leaving around 1pm, plenty of customers were still lining up as well!

Franklin Barbecue is not only the best barbecue I've eaten, but the best food I've purchased in my life. The line is long (we waited 2 and a half hours), however it's well worth it. They put chairs out for people to sit on and they have plenty of water and fans throughout the line. The staff is very kind. The women who cut our meat took the time to get to know a little about my wife and I as she was preparing our food. We enjoyed our time so much we debated standing in line again the following day! Anytime I come back to Austin I will visit Franklin Barbecue and I recommend everyone else does the same!
I was super excited to try Franklin's.
We ordered ahead for pick up. Maybe that has something to do with my rating but it is what it is. The brisket wasn't all that tender IMO. And the ribs were way over salted. Sausage was good but nothing to rave about. I had better BBQ elsewhere here in Austin on this trip. And the potato salad was so-so, though I admit I'm not a big fan of mustard potato salad (didn't know that's how it was made). I'm glad I didn't wait in the enormously long line I saw at 11am. I went inside and buy some rub and sauce. I like the authentic atmosphere. They also have other merch. SUPER nice staff.
Wonderful coleslaw and the key lime pie was ok too.
Great meal for a light lunch in the office.
Good, but not worth the wait
I waited about 2 hours in line at my coworkers behest. The food was great, but they have clearly worked very hard at having false scarcity in order to create more hype and exclusivity. The way they serve and ring up food is unbelievably slow and inefficient - I am sure they do this on purpose. They also kept saying they were running out of certain meats, which I don't believe either - I mean, this is Texas. Again it's good, but there are other places just as good with short waits that will respect you and your time.
A true Texas BBQ experience!
The line might seem intimidating, but trust me, it's worth the wait. The brisket literally melts in your mouth, and the ribs are fall-off-the-bone tender. Don't skip the sides – the potato salad and coleslaw are delicious complements to the meat. Friendly staff and a great atmosphere.
Franklin Barbecue, Austin in February
Dont know if it was the time of year, but we went to check how long the line was one morning before it opened and there must have been 25 - 30 people there so we joined it (it was mid-week). Soon after though lots of people arrived and the line was long. I don't think we waited longer than 1 hour - 1hour 30 before we started eating. If your in Austin for a few days I would just walk past every day you are there and join the line when its no longer than 50 people. Or do what others do and get drunk so the time goes quick! The food was very good but I enjoyed other bbq in Austin more than here. I dont know if it was the queuing or the fact that you sit down and the line of people circle 2 sides and stare at you eating meant I wasn't relaxed. Probably just me, person I was with loved it the most in Austin. We sat in middle of restaurant, feel sorry for people around the sides where the queue was, as you had everyone looking down at you eating! Would recommend going once, if I'm back in Austin I would go other places instead.
Do not miss Franklin in Austin, go first!
Got there early on Wednesday, right from the airport. Great decision. The wait was tolerable and they still had food when we ordered. Brisket, pork ribs and big beans were all off the chart, excellent. This is a true should not miss when in Austin.
Double Thumbs Up
I am reluctant to stand in line for 90 minutes for lunch but did just that at Franklin and admit it was more than worth the time. It was a hot, humid day but the fact that you get beer while waiting outside, combined with an interesting crowd from all over the world made the wait time fly. After three beers we got a table inside. You order the various meats by weight and we opted to sample the pulled pork, ribs, and brisket. All were superb but the next time we will go straight for the brisket which was the best we have ever had. Great food, interesting crowd, and incredibly friendly staff. Strongest possible recommendation!
best BBQ joint
Hands down the best BBQ joint in Austin! The brisket melts in your mouth, and the sauce is just right. Be prepared to wait in line, but trust me, it's worth it!
Great brisket
When we got there the line didn't look to long(compared to many pictures). Decided it would not be that long, but it was. Well over an hour. When we finally got inside we soon found out that there was only one person going the meat service for every order. The young lady worked as fast as she could, but one person can only do so much. We shared a brisket sandwich. The meat was seasoned very well with out over powering the meat. It was greasy good,& very tender. If they could speed up the serving time I would have given them 5 stars.
Spring break road trip
Father and son road trip, worth every bit the 2698 mile round trip from Florida on spring break. The brisket was like a fillet minion and the Turkey breast was super moist like butter.
Walked over after visiting the state capitol and the line
Walked over after visiting the state capitol and the line didn't look horrible (not quite to the parking lot in the back) but it was still around a 2 hour wait. A lady came out trying to estimate what people were going to order to estimate when the meat would run out. We ordered way too much food for 2: 1# brisket - very tender. Not too salty. Highly recommend this!! 1# pulled pork - just ok. Nothing to write home about 1 pint potato salad - it was a bit vinegary for me 1 pint Cole slaw - this was light and refreshing. Needed some veggies for all that meat! This was MORE than enough food for the two of us. Probably should've ordered 1/2# of each meat instead and a single serving of the sides. After we ordered our food, they ran out of brisket a couple orders later. Sooo glad we got to try this place. I don't know that I would wait in line again.
We came to Austin for the food and had to try Franklin's!
We came to Austin for the food and had to try Franklin's! The location was really cute, clean, and trendy and the service was good. We did order ahead to avoid the lines and got a pound each of sausage, turkey, brisket, pulled pork, and beef pieces plus every side. The turkey was my favorite and probably the best smoked turkey I've ever had. The brisket (a bit on the salty side but very tender) and sausage were also very good, and I liked the beef tips too, though had a little too much sauce for me. The pulled pork didn't have much flavor without the bbq sauce. I liked the original bbq sauce the best. None of the sauces were very thick which was a little different for me but not bad. Others in my party also liked the special sauce which was made with coffee I believe. The sides were okay. The coleslaw was understated but nice and fresh, the beans were a little on the spicy side, the potato salad was very strong on the mustard, and the bread was basic white sandwich bread. The take away server was friendly and gave us a root beer and some sample brisket while we were waiting about 20 minutes, but we still received our food during the last ten minutes of our time window and had arrived a little early by choice. Overall a good experience and I'm glad we tried it!
Little dissapointing
waited around 5 years to check this place out, I guess it was one of those bad days, stood in line for 4 1/2 hours only to get mediocre brisket, I mean it was so dissapointing, the brisket was dry, had no flavor, they even cut it in thin strips not like the thick pieces you always see on TV I guess so it wouldnt be so tough. I usually give restaurants a second chance because none can be excellent all the time, but to wait hours in line and not including the 4 hour drive to and from my house, I dont think I will do this again.
Traveled to Austin again.
This time we brought empty suitcases and placed pickup orders 6 weeks in advance. Worked better than perfect. We had some changes to our travel schedule and Franklin accommodated us and let us pick up early. They respond promptly to emails and worked with us to get our Franklin to bring back to California (we had a refrigerator in our hotel). And...when we got that BBQ back to Cali, we had a par-tay and shared that Franklin with many friends and family. That is some great BBQ, especially the brisket.

My friend and I visited Franklin Barbecue and waited nearly three hours in line for our food. Was it worth the wait? Absolutely. This place has easily the BBQ I've ever had (though I haven't had much). The brisket was tender, flavorful, not too fatty, and a must-get if you're here. The ribs were also well done and the sides complemented the meat very well. I don't remember the name of the woman that took our order, but she was lively, friendly, and a pleasure to talk to! She took our order with such efficiency and friendliness, and she made sure everyone in line knew the availability of certain menu items as the day went on. If you like BBQ, definitely visit Franklin!
We are not much into BBQ, but we liked a dinner we got here.
We took food to our place, so cannot judge the service in there.
Was there a lengthy queue? Absolutely.
Did we endure nearly two hours of waiting to receive our order? Without a doubt. Was it worth every minute? Undoubtedly. Despite the underwhelming variety of sides--limited to slaw, potato, and beans--the real star of the show here is unquestionably the meat. Each succulent bite was a testament to the craftmanship and dedication of the pitmasters. It was an absolute delight to savor such juicy, flavorful meat, making our visit to Austin truly memorable.

Yes I waited about 3 hours but it's interesting how a community builds while you're in line for a common purpose. I met people from 4 different states along with us Texans. Staff was great keeping the crowd updated and the servers went out of their way to be helpful. Food? Cmon man! Aaron Franklin is King of TX barbecue. Brisket and ribs are about as perfect as you can get. Jalapeño sausage- very good! Sides are simple; that's how they roll. Go experience it when you can invest the time and get there early.
I was skeptical.
I waited in line for 2 hours. I'm now a believer. Amazing BBQ. Being a New Yorker, I do think they could be more efficient, but when you make BBQ THIS GOOD, you can do what you please. EVERYTHING was AMAZING. I even had the ribs, and I'm not a ribs fan...I am a Franklin rib fan. I'd get a whole rack next time I go. Delicious.
We waited 2.
5 hours in line on a recent Sunday morning. Questioning our decision as we waited. Once we tasted the brisket... wow! Well worth the wait! Would definitely do it all over again. The staff was super friendly and made the waiting process bearable.
The brisket was the juiciest and had great flavor.
Too much mustard in the potato salad for me. Worth the long wait but I'll be pre ordering for now on
Await Greatness
You will not find better bbq anywhere. The brisket was moist, smoky and otherworldly. The pork ribs were also tremendous. Yes, it will be a long wait but so worth it. Get there at 9 am or earlier to ensure you get brisket and ribs. Franklin has chairs to loan you under the stairs and has friendly staff who will let you know if you honestly have a chance to get the meats you want ( they run out everyday) so sit back, read a book, drink a beer or 2 and await greatness
A must try
The first time I heard about Franklin was in the movie The Chef. Ever since we’ve been looking forward to visiting it and it was an AMAZING experience. We were lucky to get in there just after a two hour line!!! And believe me, IT’S TOTALKY WORTH IT!!!! Food is incredible. We tried the pulled pork (OMG), ribs and brisket. Everything was great. The staff is so friendly. No doubt an experience I will repeat when in Austin.
Amazing in every way!
Franklins was mouth dropping delish! The atmosphere, friendly staff, and the BRISKET……oh my! Get there early, line starts hours before opening. They offer chairs. The line antics is half the experience! Brisket drippy, juicy, flavors “oh my”……no knife needed. Pecan pie also very tasty. Add it to your must visit in Austin.

Great Service - amazing dinner!!
Read about the site in NYT and bought a reservation at Mother Wolf in LA 2 days later. Worked great and the food was amazing!!!
Worked perfectly!
Got the reservation (that I couldn't get anywhere else) and was able to entertain a group of friends at the infamous Bern's Steakhouse.
Got into Nobu Malibu
Wonderful! My parents are visiting and we have wanted to go to Nobu Malibu for years. I tried getting a reservation myself but it was next to impossible. So glad I was able to buy a reservation on appointment trader for a decent price!
Very easy
Was very hesitant going into this experience but am glad to say that it worked out very well ! will definitely use appointment trader in the future
Fabulous Lunch
I was veeeeeerry skeptical that this would work, particularly at a restaurant as hard to get into as Nobu Malibu, and it was perfect! We had lunch outside on the patio and it was fabulous!
Great reviewer team
Just wanted to take a second to shout out the reviewer team. Even though they probably review hundreds of listings and bids a day, they still take the time to leave great comments and respond relatively quickly. Thanks!
Incredible
I got a reservation to Don Angie, which I've been trying to book for weeks! I am very happy with this service.

Last minute reservation for Delilah Las Vegas
Got a last minute reservation, dinner for 2 at Delilah Las Vegas: super impressed! The process was simple, transaction seamless. We had an amazing time! Couldn’t be happier! 😍
It works!
Ok at this point I've attended a reservation purchased on AT by a friend and sold a reservation personally. Both worked pretty smoothly, nothing sketchy about it. A few areas for improvement including a way to more directly communicate between buyers and sellers, but the app always seems to be in development. AT customer support is really(!) responsive and helpful too if you have questions!
Money transfer
As a seller, I like the fact i have the ability now to transfer money out of my AT account and into a bank account. Makes getting the money much easier then the process before.
Love this app
Got to go to places otherwise unreachable
Easy Access
Very easy to get into one of the hardest restaurants to reserve in New York.
Whose name will my reservation be under when I arrive at the venue?
It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!
Payouts Blocked Because of Sell Through Rate
Does anyone know how AT plans to handle cases where a seller is quitting the platform but has a sell through rate <25%? The error message I got said to fill more bids or find other ways to increase the rate.
Is AT really going to block sellers from withdrawing their money? Especially revenue made before the sell through rate was introduced??
Tune into NBC News - Top Story Tonight 7:40p ET
Let’s go. Get more people placing bids!
I will give you 50% of ALL of my PROFITS if you teach me how to make profits?
LOL. Thank you The New Yorker.
Appointment
Transferring reservations is not supported in AT. Why not just use the name in the AT screenshot?
Buyers interested in Bern's Steakhouse: PLEASE READ
Same goes for 4 Charles and I Sodi
Prepaid Reservation Fee
Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
Congrats on 3 mil
🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🧨🧨🧨 now on to 30 mill!
Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it?
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid?
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted.
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from?
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered?
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
