Jungsik gave me the best meal I've ever had.
Instead of adhering to the typical Michelin faux-pas of overemphasis on avant-garde cooking techniques, Jungsik focuses on taking ordinary Korean dishes and bringing out avant-garde flavor in simple, masterful ways. The service was perfect, the atmosphere was quaint, every dish was delicious, and I fully recommend Jungsik. Absolutely incredible.
😍
Amazing experience through and through.
Personally, I probably do not have anything extra to add compared to what is already on this page of reviews, but just wanted to go on the record as well! Each dish had its own unique charm, and my favorite was the octopus dish. If you are in the market for fine dining and have not tried Jungsik, do yourself a favor and go!

I dropped nearly one grand for a party of two here and I
I dropped nearly one grand for a party of two here and I still felt it was worth it.We stopped by for a birthday and WOW, was I surprised by the experience. EVERY single dish was exceptional. On service, it was impeccable, they were attentive throughout the experience. Not just one wait staff, but ALL the staff was attentive. Table was cleaned after each dish, and water was tipped off. Each dish was explained in detail. Can't say enough about the staff, they were all stars. On food, I'll say it again, each dish stood on its own. They were all amazing. I could not find fault with any one dish, even though I searched long and hard. They nailed it in both presentation and flavor. Some dishes looked so beautifully simple but packed nuanced tastes, where your mind expects something, you get something else, and that something else is better than what your mind could conjure up. The flavors were there in its complexity and branding. I don't want to call out any one dish since they were all amazing, but I suppose, the most memorable for me was the 1/ panchan at the beginning with the assortment of small dishes. The traditional Korean soup dish which was elevated to infinity, where I would love to get my hands on the recipe. The experience of eating the hand-roll kimbap, taking ordinary food and making it best in class. The crisp on the seaweed was perfect. And then concluding on the savory with the steak was melt in your mouth delish. The desert, 3 courses of it all were a great conclusion. If I had to be nip-picky, perhaps the drinks (we had 4 cocktails) were on the more expensive side but typical of what you could get in high-end cocktail places in NYC.On decor, it was clean and simple. The seats were comfortable, the utensils were purposeful. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this restaurant. Bring your special someone here, they will love you.

Incredibly good Korean inspired cuisine and wine pairings
My final NYC dinner at 2* Jungsik was near flawless — if only I could forgive them for serving Opus One lol. I teased the sommelier mercilessly, but it did pair beautifully. 😂 It truly was a fantastic dinner with incredible food, incredible wine pairings (I went for the $475 Grand pairing), and incredible service. A little stiff on the service, but we had enough moments to relax a bit. If this were 3*, I wouldn’t have been disappointed. My friends with whom I dined are Korean and Chinese and know Korean food extremely well (unlike me). They were very clear how wonderfully Korean inspired the meal was without most of it being truly reflective of real Korean food. But we all agreed it was spectacular inspiration. I’d return in a heartbeat. Fabulous.

Jungsik was on my must-visit list, and I was thrilled that
Jungsik was on my must-visit list, and I was thrilled that we made it there on my last trip to NYC. The restaurant offers a modern and contemporary take on Korean cuisine, presenting traditional Korean dishes in a fresh and exciting way.Although we left early, our driver had trouble navigating the city, and we arrived 12 minutes late for our reservation. However, the team at Jungsik was incredibly accommodating, and we were warmly welcomed as soon as we arrived. After settling into our seats, I relaxed with a pour of amaro and a glass of champagne, and I felt ready to embark on a culinary journey through Korea. The dining room was well-lit and tastefully decorated, with tables spaced comfortably apart. The service was attentive and personalized, with our server quickly noticing that I was left-handed and resetting my place setting accordingly. They even inquired about my preference for using a knife. The signature menu comprised nine courses, with the first course featuring five modern takes on banchan. Each dish was exquisitely plated and full of meaning, creating a truly elevated and memorable dining experience. We opted for all the items from the seasonal supplement menu, including sea urchin bibimbap, squab, and two desserts. The in-house sommelier was incredibly helpful, providing excellent wine and cocktail pairing suggestions to complement our meal.Overall, Jungsik was one of the highlights of my trip to NYC. The restaurant's modern take on Korean cuisine, combined with the impeccable service and thoughtful touches, made for a truly unforgettable dining experience.

// SummaryWho knew a luxurious and modern take on Korean
// SummaryWho knew a luxurious and modern take on Korean food would be so rewarding? Jungsik will absolutely blow your mind.// ExperienceI'll be honest - I had no idea what to expect with a more modern, high-end Korean dining experience, especially because I love traditional Korean food made by those Korean grandmas. But as soon as I got the first course, I knew I was in for a wonderful evening. The creativity around each dish was magnificent, as they took traditional Korean dishes and brought them to a whole different level. Each course flowed so well into the next along with their pairings. The A5 wagyu kalbi was simply a taste of heaven. I just remember leaving the entire experience with a joyful contentment.// ServiceAs you might expect, the service was superb. One of the things that I noticed was how highly knowledgeable each person was with respect to the course or the pairing. Sometimes I got one of their sommeliers, and other times it was one of their many waitstaff. No matter who it was, the items were described with a passionate expertise that conveyed how much they wanted you to enjoy the culinary masterpiece.// AmbianceThe restaurant itself exudes classiness - but not necessarily in a way that would make you feel uncomfortable if you came with a simple button-up and nice jeans (but maybe you'd feel out of place with raggedy jeans). It's got that nice romantic mood lighting, if you want to have a great vibe to celebrate something special - or just because it's a Wednesday.// ConvenienceI booked a reservation as soon as I could when I knew I was heading to NYC for work, and I'm glad I did. But I also noticed that I accidentally booked the wrong type of reservation (bar vs. table - their bar seems to be more of the a la carte experience as opposed to the tasting menu). I emailed them to get my reservation updated, and they responded relatively quickly.

If I could give Jungsik 6 stars I would.
This still stands out as one of the best meals I've had and they are well deserving of their acclaim.I came here with my partner for my birthday dinner and their service was just perfect. They noticed my partner is left handed and offered to mirror his cutlery placement for him, which they maintained throughout the night. Their take on banchan was unforgettable. My partner and I still talk about the squid ink ball (pictured towards the bottom of the banchan photo). It was the perfect burst of flavor and we were tempted to ask if we could have more of just the squid ball! Of course, everything else was so delicious and surprising. The octopus, one of their most famous dishes, was perfectly chewy and balanced. I didn't expect to like it as much as I did, but I loved it. Truly, everything was SO delicious. I barely have anything more to add, simply because each dish was really just that tasty. Chef Yim Jung Sik and his entire team did a stellar job. I will be back!
😍
A perfect combination of service and food.
Professional and knowledgeable staff that's doting and happy to be at work. Beautifully plated and crafted food cooked to near perfection hitting all the right taste buds as it enters your mouth. I'd take a star away because you never feel like the portions are enough, but for obvious reason, this is not the place to expect that. Can't wait to be back for another fantastic special meal!

I think high end Asian food is a massively underrated in
I think high end Asian food is a massively underrated in nyc. People call Le Bernardin the best seafood restaurant in NYC, but I don't think they have been to Jungsik. I've never had fish as masterfully prepared as here. And I've eaten at a lot of places. The uni, the fish made in this delicate soy sauce, the Galbi... Omg take me back now. Absolutely loved this for a special occasion.
George is the Best ! He made the dinner very memorable. Will be back. The dishes are fantastic as is the service. Thank you everybody.

One of the most incredible meals I've had.
Thank you George for the great service. Will be back. Everything was top notch. Will be back over and over !

Came here for solo dining on a Wednesday night.
It wasn't too busy, and since I was by myself I actually managed to snag a reservation the only two nights before! When I got in, they immediately checked my coat, backpack (I had come straight from work), and umbrella -- and throughout the night, the service was great and attentive. Since I had come by myself and it was a less busy night, I think they had a couple waitstaff in training, which was pretty cool to see. As a result, I didn't have just one waiter throughout the evening, but was served dishes by multiple servers over the course of the meal (which I didn't mind, but was definitely an interesting experience!).Of course, the food was the most important part of the experience, and it definitely didn't disappoint! We started off with the fantastic (though strangely arranged) banchan, and I really enjoyed the brioche + beef tartare as well as the egg soufflé, which was cheekily served in an egg shell.I want to list highlights, but every time I start listing them in my head I end up listing almost the entire menu! That being said, I especially enjoyed the octopus, langoustine, and the squab out of the main entrées. Everything was good, but those definitely stood out as the best! The sauce that came with the octopus complimented it very well, and I think I got so excited after the octopus that I forgot to take a picture of the next course (hence why there's no picture of the thornyhead :')). I had been to Jua before I came here, and the langoustine was very reminiscent of one of the pieces that I had had there, with a strong sauce that went perfectly with the fish. I think my favorite was probably the squab, although it's hard to say. I paid extra for this since it was a supplement, but I really enjoyed it, as the meat was super juicy and flavorful and the vegetables and dressing were also delicious.Between the entrées and desserts, they served a persimmon dish as a palate cleanser. It did its job perfectly, with a really light and refreshing taste.Out of the desserts, I really liked the black truffle chocolate (which was super cute and shaped like a pinecone), but I also really enjoyed the "carrot" (carrot shaped white chocolate with carrot cake inside) + salted black sesame ice cream. Again, it's hard to pick favorites, because the hodugwaja was also great. I think the chocolate pinecone stood out because it honestly tasted like a hot chocolate but in a pastry. I didn't feel like the black truffle added anything taste-wise though, which might be my only criticism of the entire meal. One question I saw a few times online was whether to go to Jungsik, Atomix, or Jua. I haven't tried Atomix yet, but there are very clear similarities between Jungsik and Jua as I mentioned above. I would say the flavor profile of these two restaurants is very close, with Jungsik potentially having more nuance(?) in flavor while Jua is a bit more bold. Jua also had more of a "shock factor" for me since it was my first time trying a restaurant by Hoyoung Kim, and really blew my mind -- which resulted in Jungsik not being as mind-blowing because the palate is somewhat similar, and also less bold. If you're newer to fine dining or are on a tighter budget, Jua would probably be a good starting point to see if you want to make the jump. Jungsik is definitely a more elevated experience though, so if you have the budget for it, I would recommend giving it a try, too!

Amazing meal from start to finish! Loved the atmosphere, decor and the service was top notch. We had their signature tasting menu, 7 course and we were stuffed! We added an additional special which was sea urchin bibimbap. The sea urchin was fresh and sweet and portion was pretty big, worth the $$$$. Service was hospitable and friendly. Presentation was imaginative and beautiful. Great overall 5 star dining experience.
I've walked by many times not realizing it was there. When you walk in, they take your coat and walk you to your table. Soft lighting with light color wood is very relaxing. Oscar greeted us and introduced us to the menu. He said he normally doesn't because he wants it to be surprised, but he wanted to make sure I could eat everything. He's very animated, friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. He took drink orders and asked if we wanted to add any dishes. We decided to add the uni bibimbap for $75. We started with the 5 piece amuse which looked like museum pieces on their pedestals. Each had subtle delicate flavors and textures. My favorite was the egg as it reminded me of chawanmushi. Next was langoustine and foie I think. The foie was absolutely delicious. Next was octopus which was better than any I've ever had. Tender with some crunch chewiness on the outside. The abalone samgyetang was a warm comforting soup that I could eat a whole bowl of. Next was the uni bibimbap which was creamy and tasty but not my favorite. I thought it was a little bitter but my friend didn't detect it so I chalked it up to my cold I was recovering from. Next was thornyhead which reminded me of miso cod. It was fatty, salty and sweet. Yellowtail kimbap was fun to eat. Somehow the seaweed remained crunchy the whole time and you put the sashimi on top. I really enjoyed the texture and taste of this dish but found the rice a tad salty. The last savory dish was the galbi with cold noodle. Wow. Tender beef with chewy cold noodles. The palate cleanser was persimmon two ways. It was cold, sweet and refreshing. I was looking forward to dessert the entire time because I had seen other tables approached with a box of "dirt" and they pick their own "carrot" which is actually carrot cake. A whimsical and delicious dessert. Then they brought over a bowl of walnuts but two were hodugwaja which were walnut cakes filled with cream. Really really tasty. Finally the petit four were adorably tiny confections- kumquat (my fav), macaron and some kind of cake. Overall, a very memorable meal. From my experiences, I'd rate the service in the top 3. Timing was perfect. Food was reimagined and delicious. Staff were in sync and knowledgeable. The ambiance was inviting. This is an experience worth having at least once in a lifetime if you can afford it.

It was a great experience dining here! The service was amazing and I felt like they tried their best to make us comfortable. The servers constantly checked up on us and told us about each food that was served to us. I came here with my boyfriend for our anniversary celebration and we both got the signature menu. The menu included osetra caviar, scallop, octopus, goldeneye snapper, tuna kimbap, galbi, and baby banana. In addition, it came with small starters and mini desserts. They replaced the fish for me with another fish because of allergies reasons. That was very considerate for them. When it came to the baby banana, they decorated my plate with "happy anniversary" and it came with a candle. However, my boyfriend wan't too happy because he did not get the same treatment. I think that was the only downside we had. The atmosphere was wonderful and food tasted great. The portions are small but we expected it. I was still hungry after eating the signature menu. This place is expensive, so I would only go if it is to celebrate for something extremely special. I recommend this place if you want to celebrate with someone special.

Deserves it's Micheline stars and more
Just had one of the most incredible meals of my life at Jungsik. I ate at the bar and had that selection. I expected it to be good but it far exceeded our expectations. The depth of flavours and selections played well with each other . The chef made sure to create food that fit in with some of my restrictions due to medical problems. The servers are very welcoming, spent the time to explain the menu and gave wonderful suggestions. Service impeccable. The desserts are works of art in looks and taste. Cocktail suggestions were spot on and a delight.
It is always a pleasure to write a review for a restaurant that exceeds all possible expectations! This is such a review! Four of us went to Jungsik with high expectations and came away in awe of the culinary talent pouring out of the kitchen and the extraordinary service and attention to detail in the front. George, our principal waiter, was quite amazing in his knowledge and willingness to share it as was Debbie, our wine steward, who had a remarkable knowledge of Korean food and wine pairings. The food was stunning, the wine list extensive and the staff without fault. No question, it will be a very expensive evening but, trust me, worth every dollar! It is much better than seventh row center orchestra seats on Broadway. What a great restaurant! We were all seriously impressed!
🙂
Is the good food worth the steep tab?
Some of the dishes were "wow", other dishes weren't as good. Given that it ended up costing us as much as Chef’s Table, our simple conclusion was: dollar for dollar, go to Chef’s Table. Service was attentive, and the overall presentation - mind blowing. Also, unlike Chef's Table, the food ended up being super heavy, so much so, that two out of five diners ended up feeling a bit sick.
😍
This is the best fine dining Korean restaurant I've eaten
This is the best fine dining Korean restaurant I've eaten at so far. It's kind of a fusion of French and Korean food with Korean flavors and French techniques. Every single course was amazing and I want to return again soon!

Food is not bad but definitely not worth the hype or the price. The portion was too small and the dessert was totally underwhelming. The only thing that impressed me was the amouse bouche but everything else afterwards was just normal. It's good food but not michelin star quality. Also, please control your guests. We were dining next to a table of guests who were definitely too drunk. yelling and smashing table the whole time which definitely ruined the ambiance.

If you are a foodie, enjoy Korean cuisine with a French flair, and are up for a one of a kind dining experience, then you should visit Jungsik. From start to finish it was like a gourmet symphony of food and drink. Cannot say enough about how special and attentive the staff were, and how spectacularly delicious the food was. WOW. Incredibly impressive. We had one of our all time favorite bites of food - ever. A truffle rice toro hand roll - sounds simple but it was so perfectly executed and had this incredible dipping sauce. A total 10. It is pricey but worth every penny......thank you for a phenomenal experience

The ambiance, food, and service, were absolutely a notch
The ambiance, food, and service, were absolutely a notch above the rest. Everything was incredible from start to finish. Presentation was nothing short of perfect. This is easily one of the best meals I've ever had in New York City. Our servers were attentive and knowledgeable. They have a very extensive wine list. We weren't rushed and they kept a steady pace between dishes to allow us time to enjoy ourselves. Everything we ate was unique and flavorful. The octopus was the best I've ever had. The carrot dessert was one of the coolest presentations I've seen in a Michelin restaurant. Don't forget about the $12,000 toilets in the bathroom lol, this place is full service and 5 stars.

/) /)( )/ づ づ ~ def worth going it was such an EXPERIENCE!!! Everything was superb, the service was beyond excellent. I didn't like the Makrele so I got a different cooked fish instead which was so attentive. We celebrated our anniversary there so we got a dessert and a Menu card with the date on it. That blew my mind how sweet and attentive the service was. The food was out of this world. Really loved the first course, the octopus was super soft never had it so soft but crispy on the outside before. The iberico pig and galbi was melting in my mouth. Wow wow wow. No words. The ambience was stunningly beautiful and the drink choices like cocktails and tea were so unique. Again really really worth going
Came here a second time and did the signature menu with the seasonal add-ons and it was incredible from start to finish. Both the food and service were some of the best I have ever had. Highlights were the banchan to start, the octopus, the hand roll (the seaweed was so crispy!), and the prawns. The Pinot noir and the mocktails were also quite good. The only thing that was slightly disappointing was the "carrot" dessert, which was white chocolate - bring back the banana!!!
😍
My favorite meal of 2022 and worth every penny.
I don't even know where to start because all of the dishes were so good!! Their take on "ban chan" before the full set course was also mind blowing. Beautifully presented and every piece was phenomenal. Absolutely no duds on the set menu. The shrimp, mackerel, Galbi, tuna kimbap, black cod were all so so good. The octopus might've been my least favorite but only bc I'm personally not a fan of octopus. The rest of my party devoured it. The desserts were also so unique and fun! The carrot cake was in the shape of a carrot and presented in this cute garden box. We also added on the uni and ibérico supplement which were amazing. Also would be remiss if I didn't mention the excellent service. Susan was our waitress and was so wonderful. Can't wait to come back!
🙂
It's delicious- the wine and dessert were my bc favorites.

4 stars because they really do make a great effort here in service , food and ambience. I'm just a little torn on the flavors. Food wise - not a Michelin starred restaurant quality.

Excellent modern Korean food
A two Mechlin star restaurant serving modern Korean food. Creative and delicious. The octopus was the best I ever had. Crispy skin and soft inner. No dish was not interesting. Service was very friendly and attentive. They have a very good non-alcoholic selection of drinks as well.

After visit this place again after 3 years, many new courses are added. Some classic courses are kept. The most important thing is they never fail my expectation. From the service, food quality, everything fits my preference! I just can't love this place more.
😍
Visited for Mother's Day weekend and parent's birthday.
This was my second time at Jungsik so I was somewhat familiar with the setting but what really wowed me was that when one of the waiters realized my mother's language isn't native English, the waiter suggest he would be able to translate the dish names and ingredients into mandarin. I was floored with the service!! All the dishes wowed my parents and were thoughtful.

Unbeatable dining in New York!
This place is definitely one of the best restaurants we have ever experienced, not only in the US but also in the rest of the world including Europe. The place is elegant and cool at the same time, cosy and stylish, inspirational, innovative …what a great intimate atmosphere in a rather functional city like NY. The food is of outstanding quality, freshness and creativity. Jungsik offers an extensive wine list guided by a sommelier, who knows every position in detail. The service is friendly, not stiff but very professional at the same time. The staff knows the dishes in detail, is approachable and unlike many other restaurants in New York every one is devoted to create a dining experience for the guests. Jungsik is an expensive experience that’s worth every penny if you are up for an unforgettable dinner. You can tell, we love the place and would highly recommend it, even the seats at the bar, which we enjoyed. Try everything to get a table!

5 out of 5
This is by far the best meal of the year and we go every Wednesday evening to a Michelin rated resto in New York. It is really French food with a Korean touch. The mackerel, uni, wagyu and banana desert is were to die for. Perfect service and great wine list. Overall outstanding.
We had an amazing meal on Saturday night (3/12) for our daughters birthday. The food was incredible and the staff went beyond to make our dining experience a very special one. A special mention of Chris our server and Jamie, our sommelier who were wonderful to us. They are both charming and knowledgeable. Jamie recommended some amazing wines for us that we thoroughly enjoyed. We are big foodies and love a unique tasting menu. This chef definitely knows what he is doing! Don’t miss out on this place!
Period. Jongsei's menu featured little else. Our superb waiter, Tim, accommodated my limitations and then some! New York is STILL the greatest restaurant city in the world, and Jongsei is among the reasons why! A great, great evening of culinary delights!

There is no word in the world to say how they are perfect
There is no word in the world to say how they are perfect and amazing!! A restaurant that you must visit before you die.. The luxurious five side dishes have already captivated me in the first and they gave me taste that I had never experience before. In the first meal, the combination of the caviar and lobster was fantastic and the second meal that scallop was like freshly caught right before.Third was octopus that was really my absolute favorite.. the skin of octopus was so crunchy but inside was so soft such as jelly. The texture was like you visited in heaven. Sea urchin bibimbap and kimbap were amazing as well. The texture was crunchy and fun to eat. And the dessert, baby banana tasted really good and creamy. Also all the staffs are impeccable and friendlywe already are planning to visit here once again!

Had theeee most amazing dinner celebrating my boyfriend's
Had theeee most amazing dinner celebrating my boyfriend's 30th. Service was absolutely exceptional the entire night, our waiter was so attentive and fun, she really made sure we enjoyed ourselves. The cocktails were delicious, I definitely recommend the Seoul mule and the Busanhaeng. Every dish was fantastic, we also added the baby banana and the sea urchin. I honestly can't even think of what dishes were the best because everything truly tasted delicious. I don't like beets much and even the beets with scallops were amazing. The fried octopus was definitely up there, first time I've ever had it friend before. All in all a great dining experience and we both left with our stomachs full and hearts happy :)
