THE DUCHESS Amsterdam Reviews from The Last Year
Good, but not great
The restaurant setting and ambiance are impressive and worth a visit. The staff are also very well trained, friendly and efficient. But, we were a little disappointed by the dishes. They were lacking a wow factor especially since this restaurant has a Michelin star.
Excellent! Highly recommend
Fantastic from start to finish. The service was exceptional, very attentive waiter, decent cocktails and the food was superb, highly recommend! It’s a sharing concept restaurant and we were worried about portion sizes but we struggled to finish desserts! The beef wellington is the best I’ve ever had and the cheese board was delicious
The Duchess: Where impeccable service reigns supreme
[Special Mention - Morning manager, Marian] along with TJ and Rex] The Duchess at the W Amsterdam might be known for its elegant ambiance and delectable Nouveau-Niçoise cuisine, the true star of the show is the staff. From the moment we stepped through the door, you will be enveloped in a warm and professional atmosphere. The greetings are genuine and friendly, setting the tone for the entire evening. Our servers were incredibly knowledgeable about the menu, patiently guiding us through the refined dishes and offering recommendations that perfectly matched our tastes. Their attentiveness was spot on, ensuring our glasses were always topped up and every need anticipated. But it wasn't just about efficiency. The staff at The Duchess exuded a genuine passion for their craft. They took the time to chat with us, sharing interesting tidbits about the restaurant's history and the inspiration behind the. Their enthusiasm was infectious, making the entire dining experience even more enjoyable. While the food and ambiance were undeniably impressive, it was the impeccable service that truly elevated our multiple visits at The Duchess. The staff's dedication to creating a memorable experience for each guest is what truly sets this restaurant apart.
Amazing experience
I was here celebrating my friend birthday, it was great. The location it’s in inside Westin hotel, great ambience. I ordered 2 starters, 1 main course to share and 2 dessert. The food was amazing and the service also, i want to thank Luna for her service.
Well Executed but Disappointing
No set menu for less than 4 people is a let-down for a 1-Michelin-star restaurant. The a-la-carte menu is not impressive, and contains too many pasta dishes in both appetizers and main courses. This leaves diners with precious few options if they don’t want to eat pasta. Execution is good, but I would have expected a more interesting and diverse menu, as well as a nicer wine list.
Expensive, nice atmosphere and high end ingredients.
Expensive, bougie atmosphere and high end food. The dining room is beautiful and they have a huge bar. I like fun decor mix of classical with the modern twist. I enjoyed my food and flexibility of choices.
Stylish dinner venue
Superb good and service. Scallops and beef were amazing. A great wine list and a lovely atmosphere. Love the chandeliers and the staff were super.
Still a great Afternoon Tea
Times change. 7 years ago it was 50EU. Now it's 80EU. It’s still enjoyable, though. Although one thing I appreciated is that in the past, Duchess didn’t do boring finger sandwiches. Now they do. And you get just a single scone, placed directly on your plate. In London, the standard is 2 scones per person. And who serves rooibos, it’s not even a tea! But I'm really just complaining now. The quality of sandwiches is still great, the desserts are all amazing, really, and I'm sure if we wanted, we could get a black tea instead of rooibos. The service is very precise, our server was Veronica, and she was absolutely great. All in all, it is still the place for special occasions.
Clearly they only go for the one time visitor. Way to overpriced.
All the dishes were way too expensive. The price-quality ratio was not right. With the prices used, I expect all dishes to be very flavourful and worthy of a Michelin star. This was by no means the case. The lobster salad was too cold and flat in taste, the escargots tasted mainly of parsley and not of garlic and also here no flavour explosion, the beef tartare was a very little portion. It tasted allright but was dominated by the toast on which it was served. Finally, the sea bass, this one was tasty but also not exceptional, for that price garnish should also be served with it. Absolutely no dishes that we had are worthy of a star but are served at absurd high prices. Then also the wine: we had wine by the glass for 27 euros. Here too, the price - performance has been completely lost sight of. This restaurant only seems to want to serve the one-time visiting (not Dutch)tourist. I’ve read newspaper reviews from many years ago and they shared my opinion, but nothing changed. A very disappointing experience for us.
Nice evening
Visited the Duchess again. Nice atmosphere, good but slow service, ok champagne (could be a bit more adventurous) and tasty dishes, although some float a bit in olive oil. All in all a good evening and we will definitely be back.
