The Ivy London Reviews from The Last Year
While exploring Leicester Square and the market in London,
While exploring Leicester Square and the market in London, we stumbled upon The Ivy. Upon entering, we realized it was a renowned London icon favored by locals for its cool atmosphere and good food. The dishes were tasty, and the staff were attentive. Without reservations, we opted to sit at the bar, which turned out to be a great choice. The numerous bartenders frequently checked in to see if we needed anything. They offer craft cocktails, although the selection is somewhat limited. We sampled a few, finding them average but enjoyable. The dining room features classic decor and is somewhat dark, creating a great ambiance. The food is a bit above average, with good taste and presentation. Given London's high culinary standards, The Ivy holds its own as a great spot for anyone strolling through the city, offering good ambiance, friendly staff, and reasonable prices.
Great experience
Went to the Ivy for a birthday lunch. The food was lovely as was the service. I had the tempura prawns which were cooked to perfection. I have always wanted to go to the Ivy so my expectations were fairly high. The food and service did not disappoint, However, we did have the table near to the door in close proximity with another table which wasn’t the best. They did bring out a birthday plate for my husband which was a nice touch.
Very British lunch
Really lovely spot for lunch while walking around. A bit fancy and take an outside table, as it has views of the Tower Bridge.
Beautiful interior & great food
Excellent menu and the food was delicious. Peach Bellini, the watermelon salad, and strawberries and cream dessert with merengue and gold flecks were favorites of ours. We enjoyed dinner before going to a play at the Royal Haymarket Theater. Definitely recommend.
Won't rush back
Disappointing and expensive for the quality Squid served in napkins probably not the best idea Salmon and prawn burger reconstituted, funny texture The Ivy burger very average, chipped ramekin and skin on ketchup. Tasteless chips I would actually put The Ivy on a par with Beefeater We feel The Ivy is riding on its reputation.
Disappointing
Not as good as on previous visits. Service was poor and food was very average. Even the signature dishes were disappointing. Won’t rush back, riding on it’s reputation
Nice vibe
My friend had a blond moment and made a reservation for July instead of June. But the front desk were very accommodating and made a plan and sat us at the bar. The food was good, cocktails nice but most of all there was a nice vibe in the restaurant.
Breakfast
A lovely visit to the Ivy for breakfast, a gorgeous setting great service and a tasty breakfast! Not as expensive as you would imagine we had the breakfast deal and it was lovely!
Nailed it!
We dined here last year. I could not get this restaurant out of my head - a lot of friends and family from U.K recommended this spot. Spot on. Service, food, timing, atmosphere nailed it.
Fish & Chips!
The fish & chips and shepherds pie were great, it was delivered fast and all of the wait staff, bartenders and hostesses were friendly. Their private label lager went well with our late lunch.
First time visit for lunch
First visit for lunch with a friend. We chose the set menu which was excellent. Service was superb from Paulina, she is such an asset to your staff and made our visit so enjoyable.
Okay
A nice restaurant which deserves three and a half stars which TripAdvisor doesn’t allow Better than average but not “very good”. All reasonably good, the food, the service.
Very good lunch with attentive waiter
Enjoyed a leisurely lunch here. Excellent waiter. Food was beautifully presented. Duck salad was superb. Scallops also good and creme brulee.
More Training Required
Our meal was good although one of our party found the chicken was over-seasoned. Wine was good and the atmosphere was very pleasant. However, our waitress let the place down. She was abrupt, unsmiling and seemed to avoid eye contact when we were clearly trying to get her attention. We had to ask for the set menu and for wine glasses to be replenished. Very disappointing in such an iconic restaurant.
Fab place.
Really lovely place, very courteous staff and great food. Had a variety of dishes , some a little pricey but we knew to expect that and it was a special occasion.
Been twice. One meal ok, the next meal very good. Don’t know what to think.
Been here twice recently. The first time I came in the first week tbh I wasn’t sure whether I’d come back as it wasn’t that good. Food was ok but lacked an edge and you are paying top dollar. Second time I came it was very very nice. The pancakes were amazing and the cocktails were very nice so I am still undecided on the Ivy. I’ll definitely return but I think they need to make sure it’s consistent for people to come back time and time again.
Fine dining Before the Theatre!
If you are going to see The Mousetrap, can't pick a better place for dining before the show--a short walk to theatre entrance. Food was excellent and server was friendly and helpful. Reservations a must!
Howard’s Visit
Had an early dinner at the Victoria branch. Service was quick and efficient, very pleasant waiter. The food was superb all three courses, can’t wait for it to open in Bournemouth. There was a bit of a draft at times but the food was still hot. Pleasant surroundings.
Yes, it's very good.
I had a PFL booked with some media types - one an occasionally prickly overseas journalist, the other a bit of a lefty film director. So basically your average Ivy types. We needed somewhere to chit chat that wasn't too buzzy. And drinks, if I were to survive the encounter. The Ivy was great. As a freeholder of various ubiquitous acronyms and mild autistic, I can cope with most situations in life, but draw the line at poorly made martinis. So I was very pleased to be introduced to a very charming, patient and talented barman. This made for a very pleasant half hour or so before my guests arrived. The food was normal Ivy fare - just what was needed. I could go on, but there's no point. The Ivy is a bit of an institution and you should know what to expect by now. A perfect lunch with charming people.
Outstanding service made this a great meal and visit.......shame about the cover charge !
Special occasion meal before the Theatre. Service was excellent, attentive and professional. Food really good, varied menu and for London I felt was reasonable. We were a couple and the tables are close together. That said, luckily for the most part of our meal they were empty immediately around us. Service charge was added and we felt it was worth every penny for the level of service provided. However we later realised an additional "cover charge" of £2 each was also added which seemed seemed excessive, particularly with no explanation.
Don’t miss it!
Great atmosphere; great staff Shepard pie the best …very enjoyable, we went twice. I had told them we were celebrating a birthday… a little disappointed as we were leaving.. they remembered.. but… and I saw a kid who got a beautiful display of birthday from restaurant… oh well
What a disappointment
We visited on a Friday evening and it was so disappointing. We had really looked forward to it as we don’t often get the chance to dine out in London. What a disappointment. The tables were so jammed together, they had bolsters on the seating to keep people apart but there was no way anyone could have a private conversation as everyone was so close together. The starters were nice but then it went down hill. The fish and chips was average pub grub. My husband is not a really big eater but he was glad he had a starter as the portion was poor. I had the fish pie and it was dry and had little or no seasoning, in fact M&S fish pie is far better. The young lady who served us initially was very nice but toward the end of the meal a sour faced waiter took over and was less than welcoming. Well past its best I would say and there are far better places to eat
Sad old Ivy
This restaurant is living on its old reputation . Truly disappointing which is a shame as it used to be so lovely., It has become a chain of restaurants and lost its magic , which is so sad .
Yummy
always so yummy staff great food was so good going again next week for my sons birthday as it’s his favourite they made him a fun non alcoholic cocktail
Classic London
This restaurant is a favorite of my brother and his family, who have lived in London for years. Every time we come to visit them we eat here at least once. The venue is elegantly and impeccably furnished. A special mention for the bathrooms, truly splendid. I've tried many things from the menu, always excellent, I couldn't recommend a particular dish. However, it's safe. Ask for Paolo...he will be happy to have a photo taken with you 😉
Thrown out by a grumpy Italian waiter.
Our third trip to the Ivy and our second in West Street. The first two were excellent. This was a pre-theatre booking. The food was only ok this time, my fish a little pink. At the end of our coffee my partner nipped downstairs to use the facilities, as she left our waiter, whom had looked more than a tad angry all the time we were there, apologised and said he needed the table. He immediately presented the bill and a card machine and then started to clear away the table detritus. I said I was waiting for my partner. He declined that idea, said he’d bring anything I’d forgotten to the door and effectively threw me out. £132 and sod off. Terrible terrible experience. Watch out for Italian waiters in the Ivy.
Lovely staff. But are you sure you want to really pay the 'optional' 13.5% service charge...?
Firstly, very pleasant staff and lots of them. Tuna tartare and cheese souffle to start were both very good. Similarly mains of ravioli and sea bass. The only issues were the wine - we ordered Sancerre but it was the most odd example I have ever tasted. It was far more like a Chardonnay or even a Riesling so did we get what we ordered? Secondly, an 'optional' service charge of 13.5% is pushing the limits of your patrons' tolerance. Overall, very enjoyable but that service charge is well over the top.
Very bad experience
How disappointed was I, looking forward to my meal at The Ivy today. Have been there many times over the years but after today’s experience will be the last. From the moment we opened the door, to be ignored by staff as they where to busy chatting to acknowledge us, no one asked to take our coats, which were soaked from the rain, then to be sat at a table by the kitchen, admittedly we where moved, waited ages to be asked if we would like a drink, and only because we called the waiter over to take our order! Starter was cold and had to go back, I always have the Cheese Soufle which was definitely not up to standard.( was at J.Sheekey a few weeks ago, Soufle there was definitely up to standard). Drinks were flat, and had to go back, food was cold, we definitely did not stay and have dessert or coffee. Even the toilets where not up to standard, could go on but I think I have said enough, such a shame when you are looking forward to a nice meal at supposedly a good restaurant, but today definitely did not get that.
Nice spot Was worried about it being too "touristy" but
Nice spot Was worried about it being too "touristy" but that wasn't the case Food is solid Presentation fair Service better than expected Overall ambiance is a bit dated but ok Prices are too high for what it is
We went here expecting your normal high tea, and we were
We went here expecting your normal high tea, and we were blown away by the service and ambiance. We were well taken care of the whole way. The bottomless champagne stayed bottomless. The food was amazing. We dream of this every now and then. The food was plenty. Each of us got our own stack, as opposed to some places where one stack is for two. We were positively stuffed. The sandwiches had yummy fillings and the deserts were fresh. The smoothie was the favorite.
The most amazing food experience I've ever had! Start to
The most amazing food experience I've ever had! Start to finish- amazing appetizers- entrees and fabulous desserts- the cocktails are not to be missed! The service is perfect- the atmosphere is top-notch! We can't stop thinking about the amazing meals that we had - highly recommend the arachini truffle balls, and the chocolate bomb!
Had a lovely late lunch here with my cousin.
My first full day in the city. I was actually planning on having a meal on the other side of town, but by the time my cousin met me I had a hankering for some fried food so we walked to this vicinity. We were seated right away by a friendly hostess. They placed us inside, but got moved to the last table before the outside area as we wanted an outside table. It was a nice compromise. I'd say this was the most local meal I had while I was in town. Nice meal and the service was amazing. We were so well taken care of.
I came here with my sister.
We had spent the day touring London and this was our final stop. Tip-#1 make a reservation as the place fills up quickly at night and the wait can Be lengthy The appetiser was the buffalo mozzarella salad. Just an amazing starter. My main was the Fish n Chips. A decent portion of fish. The chips were an excellent side. I did find the mushy peas - done more as a puree a tad bland and it really did not add to the meal. I prefer my peas with an English meat pie. Tip #2 the Fish & Chips do not come with ketchup. Malt vinegar, lemon half and tartar sauce. If you feel the need for anything more just ask. Dessert was the Chocolate Bombe. The presentation was very nice. A scoop of ice cream with a honey comb and spun toffee centre with a thin chocolate shell. Our server then poured hot butterscotch over the shell which melted. Tip #e3 Perfect end to the meal and for sharing.
The worst food.
EXTREMELY overpriced. Slow service. Unless you're starving avoid this place
D excellent food.
...absolutely beautiful space to dine. Exceeded every expectation of a dining experience in London on a recent visit!

Great Service - amazing dinner!!
Read about the site in NYT and bought a reservation at Mother Wolf in LA 2 days later. Worked great and the food was amazing!!!
Worked perfectly!
Got the reservation (that I couldn't get anywhere else) and was able to entertain a group of friends at the infamous Bern's Steakhouse.
Got into Nobu Malibu
Wonderful! My parents are visiting and we have wanted to go to Nobu Malibu for years. I tried getting a reservation myself but it was next to impossible. So glad I was able to buy a reservation on appointment trader for a decent price!
Very easy
Was very hesitant going into this experience but am glad to say that it worked out very well ! will definitely use appointment trader in the future
Fabulous Lunch
I was veeeeeerry skeptical that this would work, particularly at a restaurant as hard to get into as Nobu Malibu, and it was perfect! We had lunch outside on the patio and it was fabulous!
Great reviewer team
Just wanted to take a second to shout out the reviewer team. Even though they probably review hundreds of listings and bids a day, they still take the time to leave great comments and respond relatively quickly. Thanks!
Incredible
I got a reservation to Don Angie, which I've been trying to book for weeks! I am very happy with this service.
Best platform out there!
Super simple, easy, and fast to secure reservations for hard-to-get restaurants and locations!
This app is life changing
This app has opened my world up to so many wonderful new experiences I would never have the chance to have without access to this awesome app! 10/10!
Worked perfectly
Was a little nervous at first but was pleased to see that the booking went through flawlessly.
Highly recommended.
Success on Short Notice
Was able to snag an indoor table at Don Angie through an absolutely seamless worry-free process.
Worked perfectly, thank you!
This is a crazy holiday season in NYC and I was very pleasantly surprised to see that AppointmentTrader works! Will be using again!

Quick table in Miami
I didn’t have my hopes high as it was a party of 4. In 24 hours I had a carbone reservation available! I was very happy as my family really wanted to come here

perfect
Worked well, got me into a restaurant with no availability
I was skeptical, and I still don't really know how they managed to find this hard-to-find reservation, but it was a win-win from my point of view, and I'll use this service again.
Last minute reservation for Delilah Las Vegas
Got a last minute reservation, dinner for 2 at Delilah Las Vegas: super impressed! The process was simple, transaction seamless. We had an amazing time! Couldn’t be happier! 😍
It works!
Ok at this point I've attended a reservation purchased on AT by a friend and sold a reservation personally. Both worked pretty smoothly, nothing sketchy about it. A few areas for improvement including a way to more directly communicate between buyers and sellers, but the app always seems to be in development. AT customer support is really(!) responsive and helpful too if you have questions!
Money transfer
As a seller, I like the fact i have the ability now to transfer money out of my AT account and into a bank account. Makes getting the money much easier then the process before.
Love this app
Got to go to places otherwise unreachable
Easy Access
Very easy to get into one of the hardest restaurants to reserve in New York.
Whose name will my reservation be under when I arrive at the venue?
It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!
Payouts Blocked Because of Sell Through Rate
Does anyone know how AT plans to handle cases where a seller is quitting the platform but has a sell through rate <25%? The error message I got said to fill more bids or find other ways to increase the rate.
Is AT really going to block sellers from withdrawing their money? Especially revenue made before the sell through rate was introduced??

I will give you 50% of ALL of my PROFITS if you teach me how to make profits?
LOL. Thank you The New Yorker.
Appointment
Transferring reservations is not supported in AT. Why not just use the name in the AT screenshot?
Buyers interested in Bern's Steakhouse: PLEASE READ
Same goes for 4 Charles and I Sodi
Prepaid Reservation Fee
Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
Congrats on 3 mil
🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🧨🧨🧨 now on to 30 mill!
Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it?
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid?
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted.
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from?
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered?
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
