Sooo...What is the first thing a girl looks for when moving into a new town/state? Yep...where am I going to eat? (Yes, it's sad but true)Made a reservation for date night with the bf and wasn't disappointed. I wanted to try everything but settled on about 6 or 7 things. Glad that the staff suggested the Hama Chili since yellowtail is my favorite. It was so good! We also had the karage, the uni, the hot rock, the spicy tuna, and some other items (can't remember the names-sorry!). Definitely a great place to come and I will be going back, but my bank account would prefer it not be everyday.

It is highly awarded and recognized as you can tell by the reviews. I made it a priority to come there when I visited Austin. Uchi is not your typical traditional style sushi restaurant. When I go to a sushi restaurant I always make sure to get seats at the chefs table and do the omakase or "chefs choice" (if available). Unlike the more intimate and tranquil omakase experiences I had, Uchi is very loud and busy. I didn't mind the lively atmosphere but it was kind of hard listening to the chef as he explains what he is serving you. Also we were sitting at the end of the chefs table and the servers would just stand there (invading my space) and wait for orders to come out. That was kind of annoying.Their food packs different flavors as each dish comes with a unique taste that you cannot particularly pinpoint. It became kind of exciting to see what flavors we were going to experience in the next dish. Their fish is fresh and was complemented interestingly with various ingredients. However, sometimes these "complimenting" ingredients overpowered the dish. Some of the dishes seemed as if they were trying too hard with the flavors. On another note, the dessert pudding they served us at the end of the omakase was refreshing and flavorful!! Furthermore, they have a vast selection of sake in which they were knowledgeable about. The prices were pretty high yet typical for a fine sushi restaurant. I recommend giving Uchi a try. FYI their Foie Gras sushi is spectacular!

Is it worth it? Also yes. I had honestly forgotten how delicious Uchi is. Since we now live closer to Uchiko, it had been quite a while since we'd been here, but it did not disappoint. Also- our server, Mallory, was absolutely amazing. Every one of her recs were spot on. She was super helpful, attentive, and kind. Every dish was so different, and flavorful. Great meal, service and ambiance. Will make sure to return again before another decade passes.

As someone who frequents their sister restaurant, Uchiko, I only just recently paid a visit to Uchi for the first time for happy hour.Their happy hour runs from 4p-6:30p everyday, and from what I've heard that's the only way to go. Went on a Thursday afternoon and had a reservation at 4p. As a first time diner here, I was pretty impressed with how robust the happy hour menu was. My group ended up going with a six-course omakase tasting (not happy hour) and ordering a few additional items from the happy hour menu. I was very glad to see foie gras on the happy hour menu and it was definitely my favorite bite of the meal.Service was great and the flavors were delicious. It is a bit on the pricey side, so I would definitely save this for a special occasion.P.S. they have complimentary valet, just make sure to tip

Best Japanese I've ever had! The quality of the food is top notch and so is the service. We can in for happy hour before our concert but we ended up ordering off the regular menu as well because there were so many things we wanted to try. I was nervous about such a large menu but they absolutely perfected every dish that came out. I wish I could say one thing was my favorite but everything I tasted was just as good as the next.

Doesn't get much better than this - anywhere in the world. Each dish is superb. The way that they pair fresh fish with fresh fruit remains innovative, original, and delicious. By now, I've tried just about everything on their menu, and nothing has been disappointing. Service is friendly and knowledgeable. Prices are high, but well worth it.

I finally had the opportunity to try the famed Uchi and the short is it was okay. Coming from Southern California and having been all over Japan, I can say this is not as good as I've heard. They do have some good signature dishes, but for general overall great sushi... this is not the place. Difficult to get reservations, we just came at opening and fortunately they were able to seat us at the sushi bar. They are very friendly/attentive... a bit intrusive. It was nice how three different people introduced themselves and tried to go over the menu with us, but honestly, maybe back off a bit. Give us a chance to take in the ambiance. It feels very mechanical and aside from the sushi chef, the rest of the staff seriously lacks any authenticity. Everyone who came by just kept interrupting our conversation. To the wait staff... learn to be more subtle and read your guests. We started off with some simple nigiri - salmon, yellowtail and tuna. I feel this is the surest way to determine if the rest of the food will be good. The sushi was good... but not great. Most definitely not good enough to warrant the exorbitant prices. And have had sushi literally all over the world, I can't ever say I have had tuna nigiri with garlic. Not a good combination. The garlic completely killed the taste of the tuna. We did try the "Hot Rock" wagyu beef, "Hama Chili" yellowtail with thai chili and orange supreme as well as the "Hirame Usuzukuri" founder with candied quinoa. All were quite good. To finish the evening out, we had the "Honey Toast", a brioche, cashew praline with ice cream and the Jasmine Swiss Roll. Okay, simply skip the honey toast. It might look good, but there is nothing special about it. Far too salty. The Jasmine Swiss Roll was good. Overall, it was an interesting experience but not one I would repeat. First and foremost, inexcusably expensive. I've been to some very fine sushi restaurants with amazing fresh fish for half the price. And for the hoovering staff who couldn't seem to give us five minutes of peace and when they are bothering you, it's incredibly disingenuous. The sushi chef was amazing. He never said anything to us, but the moment I would look up to him to ask something, he was available. Otherwise, he just left us alone. Too bad the rest of the staff couldn't be that way. My server must have asked me five times if I wanted more beer even after I told him I didn't want any more. I feel "Uchi" is more like the story of the emperor's new clothes. Everyone wants to say it's good because everyone else raves about it. But it's simply okay at best. I have been to other sushi restaurants in Austin that are phenomenal so I know there is exceptional sushi in Austin... just not here.

Got lucky and got a spot at the sushi bar without a reservation. I had my backpack with me (traveling for work) and the hostess was very kind and put it in a closet for me while I ate. The server was very helpful with tips and every single thing I ate was absolutely delicious. Just ask the server to help you pick some items and you won't be disappointed. This is actually a gourmet restaurant and very different than normal sushi restaurants. A step above the rest.

I've heard nothing but great things about this place but our experience was unfortunately not the best. I took my girlfriend here on her bday with some friends and expected it to be the best. Not at all. First of, we made reservations and still they made use wait 40 minutes for a table. Our waiter took another 30 minutes to get our drinks. And the food was great but my experience was already spoiled. And my friends ordered certain drinks that were never received. I'm not one to complain and make bad reviews but if I'm paying $$$$ to eat here I expect a 5 star service. Not coming here again.

We had arrived with our hearts set on the omakase but after having both (and being stuffed out of our minds) I prefer the HH. In fact, I'd get several dishes of the ootoro gunkan and call it a dinner. While we ordered a variety of dishes off the HH menu and received an equal variety for our omakase, we enjoyed our HH picks a lot more. The waitstaff really tried to cater to our taste buds by asking questions, but if you are a picky eater it would probably be easier to just order the dishes you know you like. The sushi at Uchi is more modern, and I've always loved strange and unique combinations - especially when they pair phenomenally. But more often than not, the combinations at Uchi just weren't for me. The experience was dampened by the dark lighting in the main dining rooms and that it was oh so crowded. Others might like this kind of lighting but the ambiance made for unflattering pictures on all fronts.

I stopped taking photos once the onslaught of glorious deliciousness started flooding in. It seems there are too many redundant photos from Uchi in Yelp already anyway. The biggest takeaway is that there's a reason for their prices and why you need to book a rezy. Their dishes are simply that darned amazing.

Each entree was made with the freshest and finest ingredients! I was told it was a 40 min wait for 3 people but they were able to get me in 10-15 mins! I also really liked sitting close to the sushi bar, it was entertaining and one of the sushi chefs kept checking in on us as he was making sushi! I really enjoyed my experience and will def go back!

We got the 10 course Omakase and wow, pretty much everything was off the charts and super fresh. Even the oysters (which I hate raw oysters) were good. The service was good, the atmosphere was great. I didn't see the bill because our friends kindly treated us but I believe it was in the $150pp range. Complimentary valet parking with the option to tip on Venmo!

I had called ahead and they were going to try to accommodate for my request to get seated earlier! I got there around 10:30 in hopes we can get seated earlier, the front staff were super accommodating and great impression so far. Chef Shannon was very skilled and it was extremely fun watching the chefs cutting the fish and plating/creating, definitely an art + show. I highly recommend Salmon Belly, Black Bream and Scallop Nigiri!!! It was so good, we ordered seconds of everything. I was impressed and worth every penny. Thanks Chef Shannon!!

I finally got to try the AUSTIN location!!! Uchi is phenomenal. This was infact my first time eating alone in Uchi. Was driving in from Dallas for a girlfriend trip and wanted to stop by for dinner which is my 1st meal of the day. I treated myself to Okamase. The chef was awesome and gave me his favorites. I ordered the yuzu thai chilli. Been looking out for a refreshing summery drink but as we know we are in winter season. I was able to be seated right away and did not have to wait. I did tried to see if they did reservations but I think the minimum is 2. Can't wait to try the other part of Uchi in Austin.

Absolutely love this place! It is not only a must try, but you will keep going back. We take friends coming from out of town and usually their socks are blown off! I have mad a menu based on what I love there on my phone, and tell the Server to add a couple things they think would compliment well. Some absolutes are the Hama Chili, Wagyu Carpaccio, Hot Rock, Kinoko Nabe, Sake Karai, Bluefin Chutoro, the Gyutoro! Everything is good, but those are my favorite!

We had an amazing evening at Uchi celebrating my husband's birthday! Even though we could only get a late reservation time the staff worked so hard while we waited to be sure we were updated on our table's status, brought by tasting bites and were so polite-great service. And the dinner was top-notch, each bite was better than the last! A perfect chorus of flavor that created excitement at the table as each course came! Can't recommend enough!

We had selections from each part of of HH menu and all had great flavor combinations. Yellowtail, escolar tempura (so light and tender) scallop, broccoli, lamb- we ate and savored it all. I feel even with their Happy Hour, the prices were overpriced. Def feels like the kind of place to show off you can afford an overpriced meal.I think my biggest thing is that their rice lacks quality. The rice is on the same level any of ole regular sushi place around town. I also think they relay too much on additions they throw in their sushi. For example "Japanese" salt "Japanese mint", or capers that make their dishes "unique". We had the handrolls, uni Santa Barbara, and an ottoro. Uni was my fav. Lastly the interior design really bothered me. It's so much going on, red walls with Bali feeling flora vibes. Kinda dark inside. And then the tables are packed right next to each other, with waiters right on top of you as they collect dishes. Since there's so many tables in one area, waiters walk by you super often if you are sat in the middle. It's kinda like being in a narrow hallway when you sit there. If I for some reason go back I recommend sitting outside actually because that area looks nice.

We choose Uchi for dinner because we heard great things about the restaurant. To our shock, we had a pretty terrible experience. We ordered a lot of items from the menu and expected that our table would be full of delicious food. Unfortunately, that is not what happened. We were brought one tiny (about half bite per person) dish every 10-15 minutes. After 95 minutes at the restaurant, we still hadn't gotten about 2/3rds of our order. The edamame came approximately 2 hours after we ordered it. After about 2 hours, the table discussed whether we could DoorDash some food so that we had something on the table. One person was vegan and they didn't bring most of her food until hour 2. To add insult to injury the chef even refused to remove mayo from a roll because it would ruin the dish which is a weird response given that the same restaurant puts tomato salsa on avocado rolls (which we asked to remove but came anyway). Three hours and nearly 900 dollars later, we left and grabbed some food on the way to a bar to meet other friends. This was probably my worst experience at any restaurant. The experience at Uchi felt like we were at the mercy of a sadistic hamster feeder that only dropped one food morsel every 15 minutes. The only pros we saw were that everyone was friendly and the place had a nice vibe.
