L'Ambroisie Paris - Buy Reservations

Our short trip to Paris was topped by our dinner at the pinnacle of French cooking at this restaurant. It is unlike othe Michelin 3 restaurants that we have dined in , being a La carte and not a 4 hour long affair. The portions are hearty and full of tradition and flavor. It’s a somewhat understated decor but very tasteful and traditional. I am glad we visited this amazing place.

I have dined here 6 times in 5 years, it's not more because I live across the Channel and because I feel I should occasionally try other restaurants as well. I've already planned my next meal here. Those who come here for the wrong reasons or with the wrong expectations may leave feeling cheated or deceived. That's perfectly understandable, everyone's different. Just go elsewhere. Same goes for those who come here just to pose and post. For the minority who are able to understand and appreciate the spirit and purpose of this temple of French gastronomy, we pray that it continues for many more years in the Place des Vosges.

We were in Paris this month staying at a wonderful hotel in the Marais area. Our neighborhood guide mentioned this 3 Michelin Star restaurant on the same square as our hotel. She also said that the French president brought President Obama there when he was in office. It was my birthday week so even with what we knew would be Really expensive we would do it. (this was my 3rd birthday dinner :). The space looked beautiful. The initial waiter, when handing out the menus to us, rather bluntly told us they do Not have an English menu. Even though the smallish dining room we were sitting in were just about all Americans. Even though the cost for my hubby and I with one bottle of wine 200ishEuros) and 2 glasses of champagne which I thought were complimentary given it was brought to us as soon as we sat down. At check time we were charged for a bottle of champagne too. Total bill just over 1100 Euros!Given the warm menu reception we should have just walked out. We stayed! We were hungry. This meal was definitely interesting, some parts good, some just a bit above OK. There was a lovely amuse bouche, we had something with foie gras (of course this is Paris!) and shared an interesting hen baked in chestnut butter, brought roasted to the table to show us it's beauty, it was gorgeously roasted. The. the hen returned plated in 2 different ways, well done visually, just above ok taste wise. The wine sommelier was quite nice, and another waiter decent. There was a palate cleanser and good desserts as well. In my business I've always said you get 2 chances with people, the 1st and last impression. Both poor here. The No English menu guy was #1 and at the end, our credit card + check was not picked up for maybe 20 minutes. We sat there wasting time while 2 of the waiters were having a chit chat with the next table from us. We finally got the credit card taken when I got up to leave. Bad experience coming , bad going. Not sure how one gets Michelin stars but it I were the evaluator, this place would definitely not cut it!

So glad an institution of classic, fine French food like this is still going strong. The cooking here is excellent. Lots of classics still on the menu, for good reason.

I agree that l’Ambroisie is unlike any other 3 star restaurant, and that those who expect arrogance and tiny portions will have plenty of better options elsewhere. The staff makes you feel at home. Followed Daniele’s suggestions and we chose a spectacular yet easy wine. Generous portions, unpretentious top service, uncomplicated genuine menu—L’Ambroisie in a nutshell.

My wife and I went to this place to celebrate our 5 year anniversary and we had high expectations since we heard that this restaurant has maintained Michelin 3 Star for 30 years. The staff there told us this is a very formal and traditional French restaurant, which is why their menu is entirely in French and they speak only enough English so that you know what you are ordering. We had ti rely on Google Translate to read the menu. The service was great with all staff very friendly. We loved the snails. They created the shell using pasta and put snail meat in the shell, it was very delicious. We also loved those extra snacks they provided. The dessert Tarte chocolat & vanille Bourbon was also lovely and delicious. We were told that's the dessert that they kept on their menu for over 30 years and I agreed it should stay that way. Their menu changes seasonally so you may not find the same items when you visit. The reason for 4/5 is because the veal we had was overcooked. Also there were 2 flies in our room and I had to make sure they don't land on our food. You can find those 2 flies in the last photo. Overall I think this is a great restaurant but I'm also slightly disappointed.

Easily our best meal in Paris! Lovely and hospitable restaurant - the chef and wife greeted everyone. The service was outstanding and the food was very good . The dessert in particular! The egg with caviar was outstanding and we loved the veal. Overall a memorable experience!
