Matsuhisa Beverly Hills Reviews from The Last Year

The woman working at the front on Sunday, 7/21/24 needs to learn what her role is as a hostess of a restaurant. She was curt for absolutely no reason. The moment men walked in, she switched it up and put on a performance for them. The younger male host was very sweet and respectful. The presentation and ambience is mediocre at Matsuhisa, but the food is always incredible here. My favorite is the Chilean Sea Bass with truffle. However, the truffle wasn't the best quality last night.

The spring rolls were absolutely fantastic, and while the new dishes in the omakase were disappointing, the desserts were good. The service was also excellent.
I'm glad I gave Matsuhisa another try.
You definitely have to know what to order to get a superlative experience, so it is essential to get recommendations from the wait person or a seasoned patron. N.B., I like fish that melts in your mouth and is not chewy. Here's what I found outstanding: To Start: New Style Sashimi with Salmon (more tender than the white fish) "4 Plates Sashimi" (or you can order these as sushi) Akamatsi with truffle oil (my favorite!) Albacore with crispy onion Shima Aji sashimi with jalapeno salsa Tai Also excellent: Freshwater Eel sushi Sweet Shrimp sushi (a little chewy but wonderful texture/flavor combo) This time, my bill was $124.00 plus tax+tip, not including alcohol. It's much less than what I paid the last time I ordered (when I didn't ask for suggestions) and way more satisfying. I will be back for another splurge around the holidays and look forward to the "4 Plates" and other recommendations.

Food:B, all though everything was fresh and neatly presented most of our tempura vegetables where not fully cooked. Service: A, Waitress was polite and courteous. Cleanliness: B,Dining area and outside patio were clean, bathroom was clean and stocked, hallway/ kitchen area to the bathrooms could use some attention. Ambiance:B, The restaurant is a little stuck in time.
This just might be the best sushi in Los Angeles.
Very pricey but absolutely worth it. Best items: Wagyu dumplings Baby artichoke dry miso salad Corn tempura Yellowtail with scallion roll White fish sashimi with dry miso Black cod with miso Make sure to make a reservation, this place is popular.
I just had dinner at Matsuhisa what a disappointment.
Paying $1200 for dinner siting in an encampment tent is not what I expected from Nobu's flagship restaurant. I have been coming to Matsuhisa for 40 years but this is the first time since 2021 and it will be my last. There are so many excellent sushi restaurants in LA.and Matsuhisa has slipped into mediocrity. Even the coffee was cold need I say more.
This was like a chill version of Nobu.
I really enjoyed the food and ambience. It's still expensive but it was a great lunch spot to chat and eat.
Food was fantastic, pricey, but so good .
Recommendations by the waiter were great and did not disappoint. Having been to multiple Nobu locations, this location is very unassuming, but still delivers the quality of Nobu. Outside dining area is kind of a miss. Overall a very great dining experience.
Great food.
Super fresh. Well crafted chef menu. Service and timing on point. A must try.

a bit disappointed by our experience here ): while the food was good, it was nothing crazy special that i would die to come back for. i did very much enjoy the corn and enoki tempura, spicy tuna on crispy rice was excellent, and the lychee martini. the quality of the fish was also very good. but again, nothing crazy special that you can't get somewhere else for a bit cheaper. i didn't get to take pictures of everything we ordered but those are the highlights. the food is not the reason for my 3 star review. my boyfriend took me here for my birthday dinner as ive been wanting to try this place , and the ambience really disappointed. he made a reservation probably a couple weeks before us going and the only table they could offer us inside was crammed in between two other tables with - im not even kidding - one inch of space between us. so i told the host i can't sit there, as its too crammed for me and my boyfriend is 6'4 and cannot sit comfortably with his legs crammed like that. personally, seating matters A LOT - especially when you are paying a pretty penny to dine. there was another table for two against the wall and i asked if we could sit there but the host denied and said they have to save that table. not sure who or why or what they are saving it for but okay ... so we opted to sit on the patio which i really did not want to do. it did not feel like a high end dining experience at all. it really disappointed me. then, 15 min after sitting on the patio they put another table one inch away from ours ! i had to start laughing. again, the food is good no doubt about it. anything crazy special? not really. the ambience ? very much lacking. the inside of the restaurant was very nice but i just can't stand when restaurants try to pack you in like sardines. i probably wont be back.
Amazing food, vibe, service.
Beautiful ambiance, fresh sea food. A true artistic masterpiece for every dish
Wasn't as good as Nobu- but same price.
They also didn't have liquor. Pretty disappointed.

If you can afford to eat here, you need to come enjoy the excellent sushi and cooked dishes here. An unassuming restaurant considering it's Beverly Hills, with fast (though brusque) service and a very diverse menu. The elevated Japanese food you would get at Nobu (same owner) but in a much less pretentious space. Every bite was super high quality from the perfectly crisped crispy rice and spicy tuna (best version of this dish I've ever had), the baked crab hand roll (ugly presentation but very tasty), nicely grilled A5 wagyu (get it with NO SAUCE, the miso did not work and I am so glad I asked for it on the side even if the server was skeptical, lol), yummy black miso cod, buttery uni donburi ($$$$$), and rock shrimp tempura that was a big hit. I would recommend skipping the tempura as it is no better than your neighborhood Japanese spot and there are more fun things to try on the menu. The oysters are also a skip.

STAY AWAY! I called a last minute reservation here for a Saturday night at 8 pm. The manager, Ron, picked up and said he has us booked with a table. We arrived at the restaurant at 8 pm and were bombarded with customers and terrible service. The host at the front informed us that no reservation was made, and they informed us of a 1.5 hour wait to be seated. My Saturday night was ruined due to the poor service and information provided by Ron.
Nobu dishes and quality with a more lowkey ambiance.
Photos are from takeout but have enjoyed going in-person as well a couple times and it never disappoints ! I enjoy sitting at the sushi bar. It's casual. The food is excellent and consistent, always fresh. Takeout order: 2 squid pasta, 1 yellowtail scallion roll, 1 tuna asparagus roll, and 1 daily special roll :-)
The original NOBU restaurant.
What an incredible place. EXTREMELY PRICY but the food is very flavorful. My wife who I love more than anyone except my 2 sons G-D bless them, loves this place but oddly not for the sushi. My wife doesn't even like sushi I think the price for food is outrageously expensive but these are the things that are incredible. Artichoke salad incredible Spinach salad(same as artichoke but just with spinach) Spicy tuna crispy rice is great but make sure they put the tuna on the rice. Spicy miso soup is good. It's salt water with tofu and seaweed. The eggplant miso is very under rated. We get the corn tempura and my wife being picky, was very skeptical about this one but it was AMAZING. so we get 2 of these so we don't have to share. The beef tepanyaki on a mushroom medley is amazing as well. If your server is a tall Asian woman, you are lucky. She's great but the only problem with this place is sometimes they might rush you to get out so they can have a faster turn over. I think that the service is quicker because people like being served quicker so I'm not opposed to quicker service. I actually prefer it because I can eat and get out asap The restaurant inside is actually a very nice authentic feel to a sushi restaurant. It's a little cramped in there which makes it all the more fun. I truly enjoyed this place and will continue to go back even though it cost one of my paychecks of 2 weeks of work. Thank you
Stepping into Matsuhisa, the hype and ambiance whispered
Stepping into Matsuhisa, the hype and ambiance whispered promises of an extraordinary sushi experience. Unfortunately, those promises fell short of reality. While the staff was friendly and attentive, the food itself proved underwhelming. The sushi lacked the delicate precision and freshness I expect at this price point. Some pieces were overly chewy, others oddly bland. Even the signature dishes didn't quite live up to their reputation, feeling more ordinary than innovative. The overall experience felt somewhat disjointed. While elements were individually fine, they didn't coalesce into a harmonious dining experience. The high price tag only amplified the disappointment. Matsuhisa Beverly Hills holds an undeniable reputation, but in my case, it failed to deliver on its culinary promises. Perhaps it was an off night, but ultimately, the experience fell short of the expectations set by both price and prestige.
Was expecting a lot for the prices here but the corn
Was expecting a lot for the prices here but the corn kakiage left much to be desired and the baked crab handrolls were not as good as Katsuya's.
30 min late for our reservation.
Guy at front desk was unabashedly unapologetic. Food was average. Toro sushi which was expensive fell apart before it was touched. See picture. Aisles were way too narrow and people kept bumping into our table. Way too overpriced for average sushi. Our bill was $250+ without any alcohol. We skipped dessert because we couldn't stand the place for another minute.

Great Service - amazing dinner!!
Read about the site in NYT and bought a reservation at Mother Wolf in LA 2 days later. Worked great and the food was amazing!!!
Worked perfectly!
Got the reservation (that I couldn't get anywhere else) and was able to entertain a group of friends at the infamous Bern's Steakhouse.
Got into Nobu Malibu
Wonderful! My parents are visiting and we have wanted to go to Nobu Malibu for years. I tried getting a reservation myself but it was next to impossible. So glad I was able to buy a reservation on appointment trader for a decent price!
Very easy
Was very hesitant going into this experience but am glad to say that it worked out very well ! will definitely use appointment trader in the future
Fabulous Lunch
I was veeeeeerry skeptical that this would work, particularly at a restaurant as hard to get into as Nobu Malibu, and it was perfect! We had lunch outside on the patio and it was fabulous!
Great reviewer team
Just wanted to take a second to shout out the reviewer team. Even though they probably review hundreds of listings and bids a day, they still take the time to leave great comments and respond relatively quickly. Thanks!
Incredible
I got a reservation to Don Angie, which I've been trying to book for weeks! I am very happy with this service.
Best platform out there!
Super simple, easy, and fast to secure reservations for hard-to-get restaurants and locations!
This app is life changing
This app has opened my world up to so many wonderful new experiences I would never have the chance to have without access to this awesome app! 10/10!
Worked perfectly
Was a little nervous at first but was pleased to see that the booking went through flawlessly.
Highly recommended.
Success on Short Notice
Was able to snag an indoor table at Don Angie through an absolutely seamless worry-free process.
Worked perfectly, thank you!
This is a crazy holiday season in NYC and I was very pleasantly surprised to see that AppointmentTrader works! Will be using again!

So glad I came across this app :)
Quick table in Miami
I didn’t have my hopes high as it was a party of 4. In 24 hours I had a carbone reservation available! I was very happy as my family really wanted to come here

perfect
Worked well, got me into a restaurant with no availability
I was skeptical, and I still don't really know how they managed to find this hard-to-find reservation, but it was a win-win from my point of view, and I'll use this service again.
Last minute reservation for Delilah Las Vegas
Got a last minute reservation, dinner for 2 at Delilah Las Vegas: super impressed! The process was simple, transaction seamless. We had an amazing time! Couldn’t be happier! 😍
It works!
Ok at this point I've attended a reservation purchased on AT by a friend and sold a reservation personally. Both worked pretty smoothly, nothing sketchy about it. A few areas for improvement including a way to more directly communicate between buyers and sellers, but the app always seems to be in development. AT customer support is really(!) responsive and helpful too if you have questions!
Money transfer
As a seller, I like the fact i have the ability now to transfer money out of my AT account and into a bank account. Makes getting the money much easier then the process before.
Love this app
Got to go to places otherwise unreachable
Easy Access
Very easy to get into one of the hardest restaurants to reserve in New York.
Whose name will my reservation be under when I arrive at the venue?
It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!
Payouts Blocked Because of Sell Through Rate
Does anyone know how AT plans to handle cases where a seller is quitting the platform but has a sell through rate <25%? The error message I got said to fill more bids or find other ways to increase the rate.
Is AT really going to block sellers from withdrawing their money? Especially revenue made before the sell through rate was introduced??

I will give you 50% of ALL of my PROFITS if you teach me how to make profits?
LOL. Thank you The New Yorker.
Appointment
Transferring reservations is not supported in AT. Why not just use the name in the AT screenshot?
Buyers interested in Bern's Steakhouse: PLEASE READ
Same goes for 4 Charles and I Sodi
Prepaid Reservation Fee
Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
Congrats on 3 mil
🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🧨🧨🧨 now on to 30 mill!
Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it?
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid?
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted.
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from?
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered?
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
