The Russian Tea Room New York Reviews from The Last Year
Fantastic dinner! Great overall experience
Outstanding dinner! Quality was fantastic, the service top notch. Ambience was exactly what you'd expect from a legendary establishment like this, 98 years old and yet whenever they did renovations last: it still looks in pristine order, and extraordinarily clean. Cannot understand why others would knock this restaurant, we had an utterly amazing dinner experience.
Great Ambiance
Great ambiance with wonderful service. The interior is a great work of art and culture A one of a kind experience to be remembered

Honestly this place is just WAY overpriced, even for NYC, ok food at best. None of it was bad but nothing every original or outstanding for the price. I don't think i'd return because so but the interior is beautiful

This place has such Beautiful scenery.
Great ambiance. Service was incredible! No wait.
Good service, very kind servers and hostess and the worst
Good service, very kind servers and hostess and the worst food. Not Russian food at all. More like fusion with lots of added sugar. Borscht is tiny portion and has no meat no herbs just boiled veggies with lots of sugar and no seasoning. The Herring is marinated in sugar and vinegar, not salt. Pork fat is served with other meats and not possible to order on its own. The prices super high for awful and sweet food.
I haven't had s $30 cocktail in a while.
Overpriced n underwhelmed. The place is chic, like stepping in a time warp. Looks still iconic as seen in the movies. We went on a Friday night the place was not busy at all. I hear on weekends it gets busy. Service is super friendly and courteous as you would expect in a fancy place like this. Love all over the top beautiful decorations. Love the red booths that face the center of the restaurant. I'm happy to have experienced it.

The decor and service were impeccable! The food was good but it didn't make us go "wow, can't wait to dine here on our next NYC trip." Definitely not a dining experience that's worth the price tag.
Great for one time visit
Beautiful interior, I like the history. As far as the food, it was okay. Service was great! We got in without a reservation with a short wait.
Wonderful Night
Food was good. Service quick and attentive. Atmosphere was beautiful Restaurant had other diners but it was quiet and we were able to talk Glad we came
Went for a wedding and stroganoff was outrageous.
Not sure if they do the vodka ice slide table side but can't hurt to ask
A wonderful place to have dinner right next to Carnegie Hall
We really enjoyed our meal here. An iconic location, great decorations, and the food was very good. Conveniently located right next to Carnegie Hall. We were really glad we dined here - a terrific memory!

We had reservations weeks beforehand for Mother's Day, we were there to celebrate Mother's Day and our daughter's graduation from Columbia a few days prior, sadly, we were very disappointed by the service. In fact, it was some of the worst service we've ever received at a restaurant yet our bill was over $400. The one positive is, it is a beautiful interior. We will not be back. We waited at our table for 15 minutes before someone brought us a glass of water, then it was another 10 to 15 minutes until our wait person greeted us and took our order, then it was another 30 minutes for our food to arrive and one of the items was undercooked, so had to be sent back, Then it was another 20 minutes while our tea sat getting cold while we waited for milk, then it was another 20 minutes when they brought our scones out but no clotted cream.

While I consider much of the inside decor a bit over the top and tacky, this spot surprised me with the quality of the meal and the service was ok (while not the most attentive, they had all the basics down). Inside, beyond the red room art and decor, you find yourself seated at booths in tables that face the center area; classic tea sets for $120+, and caviar and other things to try. Starter bread was either the sourdough (good) or the wheat (skipped). I had the beef stroganoff, which was excellent - the pasta al dente, mushroom creme sauce very good, and a giant piece of beef in the center. Dessert, a delicious creme brulee that was just right. Overall pleasantly surprised on the food. Decor.. well, it's interestingly garish. And they have some interesting jeweled decor at the front. Not busy at lunch on a weekday. About $100 for two at lunch.
I usually write long reviews.
If I could give zero stars, I would. I'm going to write and re-write about this: HORRIBLE. One of the worst restaurants I've eaten.
Nice place
A very beautiful place, a must-visit, chic interior, it's sad that the waiters are still masked and sad, everything is very tasty, we will definitely return, located in the heart of Manhattan, the location is very convenient, always open ,must see absolutely
Over-priced and underwhelming!
Extremely disappointing and ridiculously over-priced! The decor is tired. The overwhelming smell of blocked drain permeates the air. The service was ok but nothing special. The food was tasty but the portions tiny. The most expensive bowl of pasta we’ve ever had. A tourist trap that is well past its best before date!
Won't return.
Wow never has a place delivered so poorly. Might be the worst experience I have ever had in any of my travels. The food is ridiculously overpriced. Had the afternoon tea, and it was disappointing to say the least. Horrible little sandwiches, served on bent metal trays. The scones were okay but the clotted cream was a runny mess. The presentation felt lackluster and the staff seemed bored. In fact other than constantly trying to upsell they didn't seem interested at all. sigh, avoid at all costs.
The Russian Tea Room is an iconic New York establishment.
It was featured in the 1982 movie "Tootsie' starring Dustin Hoffman, it was also in the tv show "Gossip Girl". Fun fact, Madonna used to work here as a coat check back in the day! I was thrilled to finally be able to visit the Russian Tea Room on my recent visit. They're famous for their red dining booths. I came in for afternoon tea which cost $160 per person. You get your choice of champagne, prosecco or sparkling cider. It comes with an assortment of delicious sandwiches and blinis, assorted seasonal scones, cupcakes, macarons and mini crème brulée. Everything was delicious, except the cupcakes were a bit stale. I tried the Fromosa Oolong Tea and they serve it with warm cherries. It was a great experience to dine there. I love the history of celebrities dining here in the past. Service was excellent, our waitress was attentive and even chatted with us for a bit. Make sure you pay this place a visit on your next NYC trip!
I have visited this location a few times in the past.
My most recent visit was very disappointing as there were a dozen influencers who arrived and decided that they would change the soft subtle ambiance by turning on very bright highlight lights to illuminate their experience. All other diners were complaining and affected by the disturbance. I don't want this to be about race, but I will state that if this were a group of white teenage boys, there would have been little tolerance. When I requested from our server that the lights be turned off or dimmed, he simply stared at us, did not respond and walked away. This must see place will realize eventually that their time has passed. Last, the crème brûlée struggles to call itself a dessert.
Disappointed. Not the place for Afternoon Tea
Very disappointed. Made reservations for afternoon tea and was looking forward to a wonderful time. The ambiance was nice but the afternoon tea was disappointing. If you are into afternoon or high tea this is not the place to go. I can’t say that the sandwiches were tasty and not sure what we had with the awful scones but it definitely wasn’t clotted cream. I can’t in all fairness recommend this place for afternoon tea. Overpriced for the poor quality. Even the tea was with teabags and not loose tea. So pretentious. Two stars because We took beautiful photos.
Hidden gem, don’t miss it!
A hidden gem in the heart of NYC! Beautiful, super glamorous, it’s like you enter a movie or a time capsule! Lovely food too! Super friendly staff! It’s all good, don’t miss it!
My boyfriend took me for tea and dessert on a Sunday
My boyfriend took me for tea and dessert on a Sunday afternoon. We had a great time. I appreciate the little details in life, and found that was what made The Russian Tea Room so special, the little details. Sitting in the dining room is very pleasing to the senses. The candy red banquets, the beautiful uniforms the servers wear, the pretty water pitchers, the formally set table, the interesting people at the other tables. I had the best time. This is my happy place. Great place for catching up with a best friend, going on a date, solid spot for when the parents are in town, to celebrate a birthday, or anniversary, wedding proposal, etc. It is a New York treasure.

Came here for the "afternoon tea", service was great, the food was not. The "Royal Afternoon Tea" is $160 per person due to the "caviar" tasting. The caviar isn't even half a spoonful total on all the Bellinis. The food did not taste fresh, the pastries were a joke, red velvet and chocolate cupcakes that tasted like they were bought from the dollar store. Scones were hard and heated as if they were put in the microwave. The overall look inside was cool, but I will never be returning and only reason why 1 star was not given is because the servers were nice. Not worth $410 after tip.
Iconic space with great service.
I was a solo traveler, and they made me feel right at home.

Came here specifically for the afternoon tea, and the experience was so quaint and lovely. We managed to get reservations right at opening hour, as did many other parties. A couple minutes before opening time, there was already a small line forming. We were all brought to our tables very smoothly. The restaurant was not at capacity during my time dining in, but I would recommend a reservation just to be safe! Upon walking in, we were immediately in awe at the beautiful, regal decor of the tea room. The colors were so vibrant and opulent. There are two main options for afternoon tea: $145 Afternoon tea or $160 Royal afternoon tea The main difference between the two options is the amount of caviar provided in the caviar tasting. In my opinion, the set is pricer than I would like, but you do get a lot with it. The afternoon tea includes: a glass of bubbly, a personal tea kettle, a finger sandwich tower, and dessert tower. I appreciated the variety of sweet and savory foods provided. The taste of the actual food and tea itself was standard, nothing too gourmet, but the overall experience and ambiance of the afternoon tea was worthwhile. Surprisingly, I left feeling full and satisfied. The service we received was great. Our server was attentive and ensured that our food came out at a properly timed pace, without rushing us. Overall, I had a great afternoon tea experience here and would recommend!

Great Service - amazing dinner!!
Read about the site in NYT and bought a reservation at Mother Wolf in LA 2 days later. Worked great and the food was amazing!!!
Worked perfectly!
Got the reservation (that I couldn't get anywhere else) and was able to entertain a group of friends at the infamous Bern's Steakhouse.
Got into Nobu Malibu
Wonderful! My parents are visiting and we have wanted to go to Nobu Malibu for years. I tried getting a reservation myself but it was next to impossible. So glad I was able to buy a reservation on appointment trader for a decent price!
Very easy
Was very hesitant going into this experience but am glad to say that it worked out very well ! will definitely use appointment trader in the future
Fabulous Lunch
I was veeeeeerry skeptical that this would work, particularly at a restaurant as hard to get into as Nobu Malibu, and it was perfect! We had lunch outside on the patio and it was fabulous!
Great reviewer team
Just wanted to take a second to shout out the reviewer team. Even though they probably review hundreds of listings and bids a day, they still take the time to leave great comments and respond relatively quickly. Thanks!
Incredible
I got a reservation to Don Angie, which I've been trying to book for weeks! I am very happy with this service.
Best platform out there!
Super simple, easy, and fast to secure reservations for hard-to-get restaurants and locations!
This app is life changing
This app has opened my world up to so many wonderful new experiences I would never have the chance to have without access to this awesome app! 10/10!
Worked perfectly
Was a little nervous at first but was pleased to see that the booking went through flawlessly.
Highly recommended.
Success on Short Notice
Was able to snag an indoor table at Don Angie through an absolutely seamless worry-free process.

I didn’t have my hopes high as it was a party of 4. In 24 hours I had a carbone reservation available! I was very happy as my family really wanted to come here

Worked well, got me into a restaurant with no availability
I was skeptical, and I still don't really know how they managed to find this hard-to-find reservation, but it was a win-win from my point of view, and I'll use this service again.
Last minute reservation for Delilah Las Vegas
Got a last minute reservation, dinner for 2 at Delilah Las Vegas: super impressed! The process was simple, transaction seamless. We had an amazing time! Couldn’t be happier! 😍
It works!
Ok at this point I've attended a reservation purchased on AT by a friend and sold a reservation personally. Both worked pretty smoothly, nothing sketchy about it. A few areas for improvement including a way to more directly communicate between buyers and sellers, but the app always seems to be in development. AT customer support is really(!) responsive and helpful too if you have questions!
Money transfer
As a seller, I like the fact i have the ability now to transfer money out of my AT account and into a bank account. Makes getting the money much easier then the process before.
Love this app
Got to go to places otherwise unreachable
Easy Access
Very easy to get into one of the hardest restaurants to reserve in New York.
Whose name will my reservation be under when I arrive at the venue?
It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!
Payouts Blocked Because of Sell Through Rate
Does anyone know how AT plans to handle cases where a seller is quitting the platform but has a sell through rate <25%? The error message I got said to fill more bids or find other ways to increase the rate.
Is AT really going to block sellers from withdrawing their money? Especially revenue made before the sell through rate was introduced??

I will give you 50% of ALL of my PROFITS if you teach me how to make profits?
LOL. Thank you The New Yorker.
Appointment
Transferring reservations is not supported in AT. Why not just use the name in the AT screenshot?
Buyers interested in Bern's Steakhouse: PLEASE READ
Same goes for 4 Charles and I Sodi
Prepaid Reservation Fee
Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
Congrats on 3 mil
🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🧨🧨🧨 now on to 30 mill!
Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it?
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid?
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted.
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from?
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered?
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
