Marea New York Reviews from The Last Year
Marea My first visit to this upscale, Italian/ seafood
Marea My first visit to this upscale, Italian/ seafood restaurant was a culinary treat. The civilized, pretty (very full) dining room and great Columbus Circle/ CPS location are only eclipsed by the excellent service and impeccably prepared cuisine. Three of us wholly enjoyed every moment of our delightful dining experience. We shared a pasta (mafaldine)with crab, lemon and butter and ricotta filled ravioli (marubini) as appetizers. The mafaldine with crab was expertly prepared and beyond scrumptious, I could eat this mafaldine every day! The ravioli was also excellent. We then opted for the halibut and scallops as entrees. Again, they were both perfectly prepared, beautifully seasoned and stupendous. The halibut with almond was truly exceptional. The service was utterly polished, attentive, gracious and professional. The very good wine list and cocktail menu also deserve kudos. (The only, tiny, suggestion is that dirty martinis be served with pitted olives.) Marea is, INDEED, a triple threat with a great location and ambiance, attentive and refined service and delicious food. YOU MUST DINE AT MAREA, (and make reservations.)
Top-rated Italian restaurant in Manhattan
Marea is the most highly decorated Italian restaurant in New York City. Located at 240 Central Park South, on Columbus Circle in Manhattan, ir opened in 2009 and immediately won the James Beard Award for best new restaurant of 2010 under the guidance of chefs Lauren De Steno, PJ Carlapa and Kazuo Fujimura. A high-end Italian restaurant, it specializes in seafood and house-made pasta while impressing diners in a chic Central Park South setting. Marea once had two Michelin stars in 2012 and has won the AAA Five Star Award. It has been named "one of the 15 most exciting dining spots in New York City right now" and "one of the city's top Italian spots" by food critics. And it is rated as the No.l Italian restaurant in Manhattan. It is open for lunch daily from noon to 2:45, for aperitivo from 3 to 4:45 daily and for dinner from 5 to 11 Sunday through Thursday ands 5 to 11:45 on Friday and Saturday. Aperitivo? That's a new term for a Chicago couple. It is a pre-meal drink and appetizer, an Italian tradition that my half-Italian wife wasn't aware of, a cultural ritual. It usually is cheese, cold cuts and crostini, enough to indulge without ruining your appetite for dinner. We skipped aperitivo and started our dinner with chilled summer squash soup, sea scallop crudo with red onion and tomato cucumber and bruschetta with garlic bread, Baluga caviar and burrata. For her entree, my wife chose pan-seared wild Dover Sole with potatoes and parmigiano. I opted for Branzino, the tasty and meaty Mediterranean sea bass, with radish and chives and tartar sauce. For dessert, we shared vanilla panna cotta and Bombolini, fried doughnuts with rosemary, chocolate sauce and spiced honey. Marea is deserving of its culinary awards.
Food 4.
0/5.0 Service 4.0/5.0 Value 3.0/5.0 Decor 4.0/5.0 Overall 4.0/5.0 Very good spot for raw seafood and and pasta. Good wine list. Would really one day love to find a non-steak place that serves a good steak - as one would expect, this one was meh. Lots of suits on weekdays.

Food: 4 Value: 4-5 Service + Ambiance: 5 Highlights: Branzino / Sea bass tartare, Foccacia Lowlights: Sides We went to Marea for a nicer date night & dinner, and I'll definitely be coming back. Several parts of dinner were excellent and worth the price, and I'll definitely have an even better meal next time. NOTE - If you have the InKind pass, Marea is an excellent use of the monthly $50 benefit. You can definitely splurge a bit to hit the $150 minimum for two, and with InKind's discount, be able to tip generously and still save vs. paying for it fully out of pocket. THE FOOD - * Branzino Antipasti: This is a sea bass tartare and might be the best tartare or appetizer I can remember eating. I've never had sea bass raw before with the exception of sashimi, but the mix of ingredients between herbs, nuts, radishes, a kick of garlic chili paste, and the fresh fish was mind blowing. Our host offered to split it into two for us and when he brought out the dishes, we thought we'd end up getting charged for two portions because of how sizable each of the halves were...we only got charged for one - amazing * Shrimp gnocchi: Not bad of a dish, but hardly stands out from a restaurant that used to have a star. * Octopus cavatappi: Ordered this because it looked interesting and honestly flavor wasn't bad, but it was a bit salty and felt too salt/umami all in one. Could've benefitted from some fresh ingredients to lighten it up. * Sides: Worst part of the meal. Didn't offer much and we should have gone without them. * Bread: Amazing foccacia. You do have to flag folks down to ask for refills...but it's worth it. The other breads were good but don't hold a candle. THE SERVICE - Staff is kind and helps make it a wonderful experience. We had a great laugh with our host about how it started pouring rain outside during our dinner...then promptly got drenched on our way home. Worth the pain for a great dinner.
Best meal I've ever had and absolutely stellar staff.
Really liked our waiter. He was very informative and so pleasant to chat with.

Located in a prime location just out of central park, we came after a movie screening at the Paris Theater and was pleasantly surprised at the menu options, non-alcoholic drinks, and desserts. All in all, there were some stars and some which were a little bit too one note. Stars: ricci, gambero rosso Eh: corn rissoto (it was cooked perfectly but wished the corn came out more) Dessert was delicious: i think the toast strawberry dessert could have been executed better because it was hard to share. Maybe it was purposely made that way but idk
I would give this place 6 stars if I could.
The crudo is to die for! Every dish is meticulously prepared and perfectly portioned. The service is what you would expect when eating at a 5 star restaurant. Friendly, attentive and knowledgeable. The ambiance gives corporate dining room, and was my only slight gripe. I prefer a more intimate setting with low light and swanky decor, but definitely not a reason to lose a star. Everything was amazing. The savory martini was perfection and the mafaldine is a must! But be prepared for a hefty bill. Not for the shallow of pockets!
THE BEST Italian food in NYC.
After just returning from Italy and feeling blue missing it I was happy to have this fabulous meal with spectacular service in such a chic and hospitable award winning institution. Everything was on point. Grazie!
Very special place in a good location!
If you want something special and decided tô pay a little bit more for it, just go! Flavour, presentation... all perfect. Amazing team! We were lucky to be served by Greg. How professional!
Lovely romantic evening out 10/10
Came here for dinner the night we got engaged! We sat on the terrace and everything was so delightful. The staff were lovely, service was amazing and the food and wine was 10/10. Highly recommend the octopus fusilli or the garlic and clam spaghetti!
Marea is just a magical restaurant in every way.
It is absolutely one of our favorite restaurants in Manhattan.
Tbh I am very impressed with Marea.
I was a bit skeptical when my partner and I first booked a reservation here (especially after I'd heard they lost a Michelin star), but I do think this restaurant is well worth the price, both in terms of food and service. The branzino antipasti -- which is a sea bass tartare with chiles, chives, pistachios, and radish -- is honestly one of the best appetizers I've ever had. The radish on tops has a slightly sour, umami flavor, while the tartare itself is fresh and full of flavor. The pistachio and garlic pieces throughout give it an amazing crunch, and the chile packs a tiny bit of heat. I would literally come back here just to reorder this tartare, because I can't think of another app that I've enjoyed more. The main course was good as well -- I got the gnocchi -- but I think it was pretty standard in terms of pasta. The flavor was great and the pasta was well-cooked, but it was pretty much what I'd expect for a place like Marea. (Side note -- the bread service they offer is AMAZING. The focaccia actually changed my life.....and I ate at least 5 pieces). Overall, Marea definitely gives upscale business dinner -- somewhere you'd take your parents or a client that you want to impress. While it is a bit of a splurge if you're paying out of pocket, I would still try this place at least once, if not just to get the branzino app + the bread.

Right at the western tip of Central Park is this awesome italian/mediterranean place called Marea. It looks great, it feels great, it smells great and of course the real test is that it TASTES great! We ordered a bunch of stuff...fluke with caviar, pasta with sea urchin and lump crab, scallops, spaghetti with manila clams, garlic and peas. Everything was incredible. We sat in a area that allowed us to see the various dishes as they came into the room and they all looked fantastic. A quick tip: the pasta dishes are very large and they are quite rich in flavor. I ordered half orders and saved a few dollars while still getting an ample serving. The waiter was top marks as was the sommelier. This place is fantastic!
Highly recommend!
My husband and my mother came here for dinner for my husband's birthday. Everything was great. The food, the ambiance, and the service. Looking forward to returning. Highly recommend!
it was just ok, could be much better
It was our casual brunch. We spent 700$ for 3 ppl. And the service sucked! Really terrible service for a Micheline star restaurant. They have ignored our requests constantly. We tried to order a bottle of champagne and they didn’t pay attention and did not bring us a wine list. We ordered by the glasses. We ordered many glasses, but any way the friend wanted a fish for 60-70$ dollars for to go, but the thrown it away. It was really upsetting and the didn’t care at all about it. And they promised us to bring a new one after all the explanation. Well over all, I would say the survive could be better for nyc. If it was LA, AZ, WY, probably it would be perfect, but not that great for nyc. As I live near by and walked many times around this restaurant for some reason I had a better expectations. And when they brought us check after we ordered more champagne and they said it’s time to leave. It was a little weird caz I know dinner starts at 5. It was 5, but there were only 4-5 tables occupied so why couldn’t we get another glass?
No the same as in the past
This used to be a regular dining spot when in NYC prior to the pandemic. Upon a recent return, the menu had changed. While choices were similar, they were not executed like the past. Service was not up to par. While our waiter was pleasant, the second round of bread was delivered after I had finished my pasta which was my main course. With so many restaurant choices in NY, this will be off of my list of places to go.
Lovely lobster burrata
Really enjoyed the lunch at Marea. Lovely decor, very good service and tasty food. The lobster burrata dish was a standout and will definitely return

Went here for lunch this week with a client and it was the perfect pick. We had a 12pm reservation (they opened at 12) and by 1pm the restaurant was completely packed, mainly with people in business attire (a lot of suits). We had drinks, a few of the crudo dishes and other fish dishes. My favorite was the tuna crudo. Tuna crudo is a stample for me to order, and this was my favorite that I can remember. It was filled with pistachios and spices which made the texture and taste divine! Can't wait to come back to check out some more dishes and desserts.

Highest quality restaurant.
Food, service and ambiance are above 5 stars. The food is inventive and delicious. Everyone on the staff is impeccably trained.

Exceptional menu with amazing wine list by the glass and bottle (Sancerre was reasonable and excellent). Swordfish portion was cooked medium rare and done with fennel and was one of the best dishes of swordfish I ever had!
Ooooof.
Amazing!! Incredible!! A must try!! Came for my birthday while in NYC and we weren't disappointed! Everything we had was incredible!! The service was impeccable. The atmosphere is perfectly classy. I can't wait to go back!!!!
Visited 2 weeks ago.
Excellent delicious fresh seafood good ambience. Orders grilled octopus and a citrus drink. I had a fashion event & only ordered a light meal.

Finally found a good Italian place in nyc that beats my favorite Italian restaurant in LA (Osteria Mozza). Marea came highly recommended from my friend who said it was his favorite restaurant in nyc, and this place lived up to its hype I found my FAVE dish of all time and that is none other than the infamous lobster burrata, that was mind-blowingly good the burrata paired perfectly with the lobster. My second fave was the infamous octopus fusilli. Pasta was flavorful, texture was perfectly chewy, and the octopus portion was quite generous. We also got the pan seared scallops, and they were super buttery and soft! The only dish that I didn't like was the Branzino tartare. It tasted like an Asian style Branzino thing? The flavor just didn't go that well... for $32 a pop, would definitely skip this. Last but not least- the tiramisu here was literally the BEST tiramisu I've ever had in my life 10/10 dining experience and I'm so happy to have the opportunity to try it Service: very attentive waiter/waitresses. Top notch service. Ambiance: upscale and classy.

I was here to celebrate my wife's birthday and we had a great time. Service was top notch and the place had a great vibe to it. I always enjoy good Italian food and Marea was up there with the other nice experiences. I can definitely see myself coming again in the future!
"Disappointment"
Today I had the opportunity to return to the Marea restaurant in New York. I had fond memories of it, so I decided to go back... important to mention that the first experience was 10 years ago. Unfortunately, while the ambiance remained elegant and with a certain sophistication, the rest of the experience wasn't the best... We started with the appetizers: Cold and somewhat hard bread, not fresh; We ordered a Franciacorta, which was adequate. The appetizers were good. The main courses were disappointing; out of the 4 we ordered, only one was adequately executed. I ordered a Port wine to accompany the dessert... it was very cold and had already been open for too long... it lost all its bouquet and body... The cuisine was very pretentious, but the waiter and sommelier were extremely friendly. Based on the food alone, I wouldn't come back. It's a pity, as it tarnished my fond memories. Price - adequate if the above criticisms didn't exist.

Great Service - amazing dinner!!
Read about the site in NYT and bought a reservation at Mother Wolf in LA 2 days later. Worked great and the food was amazing!!!
Worked perfectly!
Got the reservation (that I couldn't get anywhere else) and was able to entertain a group of friends at the infamous Bern's Steakhouse.
Got into Nobu Malibu
Wonderful! My parents are visiting and we have wanted to go to Nobu Malibu for years. I tried getting a reservation myself but it was next to impossible. So glad I was able to buy a reservation on appointment trader for a decent price!
Very easy
Was very hesitant going into this experience but am glad to say that it worked out very well ! will definitely use appointment trader in the future
Fabulous Lunch
I was veeeeeerry skeptical that this would work, particularly at a restaurant as hard to get into as Nobu Malibu, and it was perfect! We had lunch outside on the patio and it was fabulous!
Great reviewer team
Just wanted to take a second to shout out the reviewer team. Even though they probably review hundreds of listings and bids a day, they still take the time to leave great comments and respond relatively quickly. Thanks!
Incredible
I got a reservation to Don Angie, which I've been trying to book for weeks! I am very happy with this service.
Best platform out there!
Super simple, easy, and fast to secure reservations for hard-to-get restaurants and locations!
This app is life changing
This app has opened my world up to so many wonderful new experiences I would never have the chance to have without access to this awesome app! 10/10!
Worked perfectly
Was a little nervous at first but was pleased to see that the booking went through flawlessly.
Highly recommended.
Success on Short Notice
Was able to snag an indoor table at Don Angie through an absolutely seamless worry-free process.
Worked perfectly, thank you!
This is a crazy holiday season in NYC and I was very pleasantly surprised to see that AppointmentTrader works! Will be using again!
Worked flawlessly!
Worked so well! I was a bit nervous, but everything went very smoothly. purchased the reservation, and got into the restaurant seamlessly.
Love this app!
So glad I came across this app :)
Quick table in Miami
I didn’t have my hopes high as it was a party of 4. In 24 hours I had a carbone reservation available! I was very happy as my family really wanted to come here
Prime time, great meal
So easy and had a prime time which I can never seem to get on normal res apps. So worth it
Got impossible NYC res
instead of waiting weeks I got my 4 charles reservation instantly
Worked perfectly to get into Carbone. So delighted
perfect
Worked well, got me into a restaurant with no availability
I was skeptical, and I still don't really know how they managed to find this hard-to-find reservation, but it was a win-win from my point of view, and I'll use this service again.
Last minute reservation for Delilah Las Vegas
Got a last minute reservation, dinner for 2 at Delilah Las Vegas: super impressed! The process was simple, transaction seamless. We had an amazing time! Couldn’t be happier! 😍
It works!
Ok at this point I've attended a reservation purchased on AT by a friend and sold a reservation personally. Both worked pretty smoothly, nothing sketchy about it. A few areas for improvement including a way to more directly communicate between buyers and sellers, but the app always seems to be in development. AT customer support is really(!) responsive and helpful too if you have questions!
Money transfer
As a seller, I like the fact i have the ability now to transfer money out of my AT account and into a bank account. Makes getting the money much easier then the process before.
Love this app
Got to go to places otherwise unreachable
Easy Access
Very easy to get into one of the hardest restaurants to reserve in New York.
Whose name will my reservation be under when I arrive at the venue?
It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!
Payouts Blocked Because of Sell Through Rate
Does anyone know how AT plans to handle cases where a seller is quitting the platform but has a sell through rate <25%? The error message I got said to fill more bids or find other ways to increase the rate.
Is AT really going to block sellers from withdrawing their money? Especially revenue made before the sell through rate was introduced??
Tune into NBC News - Top Story Tonight 7:40p ET
Let’s go. Get more people placing bids!
I will give you 50% of ALL of my PROFITS if you teach me how to make profits?
LOL. Thank you The New Yorker.
Appointment
Transferring reservations is not supported in AT. Why not just use the name in the AT screenshot?
Buyers interested in Bern's Steakhouse: PLEASE READ
Same goes for 4 Charles and I Sodi
Prepaid Reservation Fee
Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
Congrats on 3 mil
🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🧨🧨🧨 now on to 30 mill!
Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it?
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid?
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted.
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from?
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered?
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
